Otterbox Defender series is the toughest,& best protection for digital devices on the market!,

This review is from: OTTERBOX DEFENDER CASE BLACKBERRY 8800 8820 8830 (Wireless Phone Accessory)
If you are going to invest a chunk of money on a smartphone, then you need to have a case that can protect that investment. When I got the replacement for BlackBerry 8820 which was stolen, I also opted for a better case to protect my Blackberry. Up till recently I had just a simple rubberized skin which was ok, but it really didn't offer nearly so much by way of protection. Since I am in film production and electronic devices do need extra protection on rugged locations, even day to day knockabout in the studio, this case was exactly what I was looking for.
There are several layers of protection for your smartphone with the Otterbox. You have the outer case that is rubberized which goes over the plastic, two-piece case. This in turn goes over a thin, plastized skin that goes over the screen and keyboard, additionally protecting these from moisture. It does add a little more bulk to your BlackBerry, but it fits easily in the sturdy holster that fits over the waistline or a belt. It's easy to grip so you are far less likely to drop your phone inadvertantly. In spite of all these layers of case protection, it is very easy to take apart for those times when you have to do a battery-pull. I paid full price for my Otterbox on another well-known BlackBerry website for approximately $49.00 for my 8820. I do not regret having done so at all. The investment was worth every penny to me. However, next time I will shop Amazon, first. EDIT: I have since gone for a phone upgrade to a Blackberry Bold (9700). I bought my case through Amazon for my new phone and I like it just fine. The holster is a little less secure on the new "remodel" for the Otterbox than I had with the Otterbox Defender Series case for my 8820. It really was that redesign that made me rather hesitant to switch phones. I need my phone to be secure (doesn't everyone?!) and I was just not as confident with the newer version. Also, on the model for the 8820, there are grips on the back that make it much easier to hang on to and less likely to drop. The case on either version is still very tough, however. I plan to purchase an Otterbox for my 160 GB iPod Classic. When you put that much money into a device, why wouldn't you get the toughest bit of protection possible? Otterbox is still the answer.

My company cell phone got soaked so they gave me an older model Blackberry (2007) to use. I work in a printing environment and banging the phone on machinery and dropping it onto cured concrete is a constant threat and reality. I looked at dated reviews for this item and saw it was really appreciated and worked well in it's hay day. So I got it. For ME in my work situation it's perfect. Too bulky for the younger Razor crowd, I suppose, but I can stick it in the front pocket of my Levi 505s and it's not noticed. It's already taken some realy abuse and there's been no adverse effect on the phone. What's more I have VERY large hands so this helps me a lot and it's not like it'll get lost under paperwork like my co-workers constantly suffer. I also like how it's stopped any accidental activation of side buttons on my old Blackberry that was a constant problem before. So I appreciate it for what it is and does. If you're not into a credit card sized phone and need the a good solid grip as well as "armor" protection then buy this model. Oh yeah, I don't use the clip. My side fat makes it painful and it also gets caught on the arm of my chair as I stand or sit down. I also like the way I can literally throw it into my jacket or leather vest pocket and even my tank bag on my motorcycle and hasn't done anything but continue to protect my phone quietly and efficiently.
I'm an old school biker and this phone fits the bill for my lifestyle both on and off the bike.

Perfect fit for my blackberry, case is rugged, and since I work outdoors most of the time, the water RESISTANCE (this is not water proof) is a great feature. Price was cheaper than I could have gotten a holster for most places, and it is an Otterbox, In my opinion the best built, most protective and well thought out designs in the industry. Others should take a cue from Otterbox and consider some of the more rugged cases. These phone are no longer for execs, field crews have definite uses for these phones.
