This is my second pair of Otz shoes. I bought my first pair because I loved the fact that they were modeled on the shoes worn by Otzi who I teach about in my classes, but I was delightfully surprised to discover that they are extremely comfortable and well made. My first pair is made of linen, and I do not wear them very often because I am concerned about getting them dirty or wearing them out. I got this leather pair for a super deal and I could not be happier. I bought my first pair at a shoe store with a very knowledgeable salesperson and am glad I did because otherwise I may not have appreciated the way the shoes work. They should feel like wearing nothing and they are supposed to fit snugly. They are quite difficult to get into the first few times (use a shoe horn), but once your foot is in, they should feel great - all the pressure points in the right places and lots of wiggle room in the toes. The band over the top of the foot will still be snug but will loosen up as you continue to wear them. My feet are 5 1/2 but I generally wear a size 6 because on the rare occasions when I can find 5 1/2 they are often too narrow. The 36 fits me perfectly - as perfectly as my size 35 Birkenstock Arizonas. But the Otz shoes are way cuter.

This is the third pair of OTZ shoes that I have bought. I have two that are canvas. Love the cork footbeds! I was able to march all around Washington, DC in hot weather and the shoes not only held up but my feet were not all hot and sweaty.

If you get OTZ shoes, here is a head's up: They are a little more of a challenge to put on. You need to slip into them with the heel part down and pull it up around your heel. The linen shoes are easier to slip on, and appear to give a little more quickly as you are breaking them in. However, I did struggle when I tried on a pair for the first time. Once I figured things out, I have not had a problem.

When I got my leather shoes, I had a very hard time trying to get them on. I was able to get them on without socks, but putting on even thin socks was a struggle. What I ended up doing was pulling the cork soles out of my linen shoes and putting them in the leather ones and all was fine. I didn't want to order a larger size, as the shoes did fit perfectly once I got them on. Because I had worn the linen pair this summer, the footbeds were broken in and had flattened out just enough to work in the leather shoes.

I did try putting in some Dr. Scholl's liners and those worked as well with a little more room, but I absolutely love the cork footbeds.

There aren't any stores in Minnesota where I can easily find OTZ shoes. I would suggest that if your area sells them, go try on a pair beforehand. And have a little patience.

Size was fine for me. I generally wear a 7.5-8 (I have wide feet) and once I got the shoes on, I was able to wear them all day without a problem. I am planning a trip to Argentina in June and plan to bring the leather ones with me as one of my primary pairs of shoes.

I will most likely order another pair of OTZ shoes within the next year!

They fit wonderfully. I wear them 12+ hours at a hospital & general aches have diminished. The only downfall? They look like my grandfather's "house shoes".
