It very nice and helpful DVD course it is all right but make please make sure that you buy this DVD course from CustomFlix or it will not be admitted for certification. As I have figured out CustomFlix is the ONLY exclusive distributor of this DVD course. I got this one because the certification was very desirable and then I notified TechnoProfessor by email as it states on the box, but since it was not a purchase from CustomFlix the certification was denied and no customer service from publisher was available. Thanks to Amazon returning policy I was able to return the fake and purchase the original thing.

This DVD had saved my job! We had to learn things to participate in the project after all our support had been outsourced to India. I became almost disparate with many books and a "requirements" to fit into the project in one month. This DVD did the trick. It is extremely valuable to someone who needs LEARN how to use UNIX and how it works. This course is released in MP4 format so you can easily copy the files on the hard drive as I did and have it anywhere with a laptop. It is seamlessly playable with QuickTime that is included within DVD. This guy who had a problem to play this one should learn how to use a computer. I have it on my laptop, on my desktop and on my home computer and had no problem whatsoever.
Learning UNIX is not an easy task. This DVD course is the most amazing shortcut. As one of the reviewers had mentioned, it will not learn UNIX for you but it will facilitate the process dramatically.

This DVD is very helpful and so far the best experience with my journey into UNIX.
1. It exhibits the whole workflow and explains subjects step by step.
2. It is nicely organized and takes you from presumed zero knowledge to quite advanced issues.
3. It allows to come back and review so many issues that otherwise would escape your attention.
4. It will provide you with an WIDE variety of practical commands for any situation.

It is easy to follow and all the information is useful and well explained.
I'm waiting eagerly for his another DVD of Security and TCP/IP networking. If you really want to learn UNIX it is the best way to to it, period.

So far it is the best UNIX training had happened to me. It starts from the beginning and it goes very nicely right up the road. I was able to learn eventually many things that I had difficulties with. One thing, that I especially like about this course it is about real stuff, not the stupid lessons of how "point and click" but the real workflow with a command line, all the underlying conceptions are explained, and not just "type this command".
I ran some sections for many times and it is nice to be able to do so! As I have leaned from my previous training, UNIX people often don't bother to go over the basics, it is way too low for them! This course goes all over the basic stuff so you don't feel yourself like a bonehead. And then you discover that most of that " cool advanced stuff" actually is very basic in nature when well explained. The approach this course takes is very right, normal, step by step, like it should be, not jumpy. It is also helps very much that you can run it as much as it takes to memorize all that you need.
I had an opportunity to test my knowledge against the instructor on the corporative two days UNIX drill and instructor would be better off with this DVD and learned him selves. By the end of the day two, at least 8 other persons ordered their DVD course.
It also provides you with certification and this certification gives you an opportunity to attend their UNIX Academy system administration 5 days training seminar in Chicago (they will not take you if you didn't take this DVD training!). I didn't go myself but I know one who did and he was truly impressed by it, because everyone had learned their basics before. My certificates arrived in a month or so after I have sent the conformation to the email address as it states on the box. I actually have received the reply from Boris himself and it was nice and friendly! Let me tell you, if once you have been thinking about UNIX training as a stiff one, this DVD will change it for you forever. Recommend to anyone who needs to start with UNIX, it is the best you can get to take off.

It is quite helpful and well made course. I have purchased this one for my nephew who is very passionate about his new Apple computer and OSX and so far he has made impressive progress. I reviewed this video myself and have to admit that the material for course is very well selected and fits into most modern UNIX workflow. I found that much of what I use everyday is covered and some tricky points are very well illustrated. I had absolutely no issues with viewing and setting up this one and found it to be very nice to be able to copy the content to the hard drive. It takes not too much of disk space and in the same time I can use the drive for something else in the same time. This course is slightly shallow on daemons but daemons are definitely not for "Essentials" course and would be in place for advanced system administration course. Anyway it is nice that this course touches the subject that contributes to general awareness.
I attended many courses on different subjects and I like this one definitely. It is not perfect but what is? It promises to teach you the essentials and it does. It also goes way beyond essentials. Can I recommend it? If you're about to take your first steps in UNIX and you need a quick start with whole panoply of what is there, this course is the only one that can teach you UNIX in two days.

It is the best thing to learn UNIX, period. It is freaking cool, it is
complete, no bull UNIX course. Very strong delivery, right to the point, as
someone has mentioned very nice attitude, no brainwashing, very
professional! I'm waiting for his next "Networking" course. The
certification is very useful and nicely done. I'm fan of this one!

I can't stress enough how helpful and great this course is. It is eventually THE COURSE I always would like to attend and never had a chance. I learned from this one more than from all my college classes altogether. Really BIG thanks for putting this course together. You don't have to kill the whole summer (as I did once) to figure out what it is all about. He teaches technical terms with simple examples and the attitude helps to capture sophistication of the system in really, REALLY simple terms. I went through the course and can't even recall one thing I had difficulty with. I'm waiting now for the next course. As someone has said here "I'm fun of this one", so I'm joining the club.

This video is best kept secret of those who start their way into UNIX. At some point of my career I had to learn UNIX and spent much of time with different books. I would like to attend some classes but all of them asked for one week training my two week salary and it wasn?t option for me. My employer had refused to fund or reimburse and I gave up, after all UNIX course it is not something that I would like save money for.
I went through different books, however UNIX it s not something that beginner likely to get right out of printed page. It always feels tricky and mysterious. At this point I came across this DVD. It is unlike anything else, it is complete 32 lessons course of UNIX for anyone who needs to start and start fast. Boris takes you really strait to the point, explains what and how and teaches well. I can?t overstate how much I have learned from this video. .
This video provides you with great collection of commands and explains by far better than any book possibly could. It is like attend the real class and you can make it by your own pace and at any time. Some topics in UNIX aren?t easy to understand so you can go through iterations, time after time you learn thinks that otherwise would escape you attention.
Boris has a lovely accent and explains things very clearly and he keeps very nice logical approach to lectures. Overall this DVD was one of my best training experiences ever and I still keep it close to review some subjects that I do not use very often. In month I have received by mail two certificates of completion that is very nice to have if you are looking for the new job or simply to show off in the cubicle ;).

As you're looking for quality UNIX/Linux course, it is very helpful one! It also is my college professor's first choice recommendation and hey, it comes with a certification! This course is so efficient primarily because it reflects his twenty years of experience and you just can't get this combination of explanations out of a book! There are many subjects in discussions have been enlightened in a way no book had suggested and with ongoing demonstrations and examples. He doesn't treat you as a dumb but cares to explain things and show how different aspects are related and how to use these dependencies. I went trough most of the lessons at least three times and I like that introductory lessons are light and easy and it takes uphill as you learn more. It is superb UNIX course.

This course has a humble title of "essentials" but this course goes WAY beyond that!
I would say everyone can learn as much from it as one wish. He touches MANY advanced subjects but in such a delicate and subtle way that you barely notice the complexity. Watch the screen, try all the commands he explains, and follow him. I got some "advanced" UNIX books and scroll them up and down and still have a difficulty to find something that wasn't covered by this DVD! It is great thing to learn from and I would say it is MUST for anyone who has system administrator's job in mind.
