I agree that the car is a bit flimsy, but as for it not working well indoors, well, that's why it's called a SOLAR powered cable car. Indoor lighting is not a substitute for solar energy, and to expect this to work with indoor lighting is unrealistic to say the least, not to mention an unfair criteria. Some solar devices, like calculators will work indoors, but they require very little power; much less than a motor. It does however work as intended on a sunny (not cloudy) day. I put up my own "cable" and the car runs back and forth across my back yard, close to 100 feet one way. I'm considering beefing up the car with some lightweight material but do not know as yet how the weight may affect the ability of the motor to run it. I think it will be OK as long as it's not too much heavier. As pointed out, a child may need to help, but I think this is an excellent educational toy for an adult to help teach a child about solar energy.

I have purchased the toy for my 5 years old daughter. The assembly requires an adult, but afterwards the toy is easily managed by a child. You need quite a sunny day to have the cable car working at full speed and I would recommend the toy for outdoor use or sunny places. The toy is great as it introduces the young ones to the solar energy. You can also leave it running unattended.

This review is from: OWI Aerial Cable Car - Solar Powered (Toy)
the solar cell only works in full direct sunlight @ noon outdoors. Won't work indoors even if you shine a 150 watt spotlight 6 inches away from it. the switch that is supposed to change directions didn't work (only goes one way) and the company hasn't done anything with my warranty request. good idea but extreme poorly executed.
