Overview:
I have purchased many of these storage containers, in various sizes. As with most OXO products, I have been extremely satisfied with them, and I would buy them again. More importantly, my wife appears to be equally impressed with her gift. That being said, I don't think they would work as well for everyone, as they do for us. They are expensive, and they are not necessarily the best choice for a home with small children. As such, I will provide you with my observations, and leave it up to you to decide how they would fit into your personal lifestyle. The pros: They seal flawlessly, and with great ease. I believe they are the best product available for keeping the freshness in, and the bugs out. They stack nicely, and their clear siding permits easy identification of the contents within. Their rounded corners make pouring a breeze. These containers come in a variety of sizes, and meet all of our kitchen dry-storage needs. They work for everything from baking goods, to cereals and crackers, to bread. Yes, the two largest container sizes can hold a normal-sized loaf of bread, and keep it fresh for much longer. They have really helped organize the pantry, which looks great, and makes it much easier to evaluate how much of a product requires replentishment, prior to shopping. The cons: First, many of them (especially the larger sizes) are not packaged well for shipping, and they have arrived in broken condition. Fortunately, Amazon Customer Service has promptly replaced them, without delay. To me, the long-term convenience far outweighs the short-term frustration. Second, we have not broken any of them after delivery, but we are also quite careful in their handling. I'm not sure how well they would do with small children, so be advised before you invest. I suspect a single drop on the hard kitchen floor would result in a damaged container, but I am not willing to test my hypothesis at this price. Third, they are not dishwasher safe, except for the silicon sealing ring. For us, this has not been a major issue, but it may be a problem for others. Personally, we have found their non-pourous construction to be easy to clean, so we don't mind hand washing them. Pre-purchase planning: Be aware that for stacking purposes, the containers come in three shapes (from the top view): small-square shape, large-square shape, and rectangular shape. While you can sometimes mix them for stacking, in general, I find that it is best to stick to one shape (for a particular stack). Also, be aware that you get more bang-for-the-buck with the larger sizes. The relationship between the price of the container and the volume of storage is indirect. In short, less storage costs you more money. In general, I find the large-square shape and the rectangular shape to be the most beneficial. They permit easy access, and they allow the buyer more options regarding what to put in them. That being said, understand that the prepackaged sets tend to come with a lot of the small-square shaped containers. The smallest sizes have limited functionality, but can be useful for storing raisons, small candies, etc. As for the spices mentioned by the manufacturer, spices usually come in a bottle. For those that don't, I believe there are better (and cheaper) products available. Summary: For those willing to deal with the shipping issues, the risk of future breakage, and the hand-washing, I think this is by far the best product on the market. With care, they will save you money in the long-run because: they keep things fresh, they keep the bugs out, and they make it easy to avoid the over-buying or the under-buying of groceries. They are a quality product, and they make the kitchen look great. Whether you want to buy many of them or just a few, I generally recommend the larger sizes. They provide the best bang-for-the-buck, and permit greater flexibility. Specifically, I would start with a few of the large-square types to see if you like them as much as I do. Thank you for those who posted before me. Much of what I have said consolidates what you mentioned before, and really helped with my purchasing decisions. For those of you still stuck in the decision-making process; good luck! I hope this helps out a little.

Hands Down the best storage containers on the market!!,

I am a big believer in using storage containers and have tried almost every brand in existence but I have to be honest, when I first saw these in Kohls I thought they were just another average storage container and I didn't pay them much attention at all. Then on a 2nd visit I decided to give them a closer look and boy am I glad I did. The lids are FANTASTIC. Yes they sink into the actual container around 3/4 of an inch thus taking away a bit of your storage space but I for one really don't care. Ill just use a bigger container if it wont fit in a smaller once. The ease and quality of the seal is worth every bit of that 3/4 of an inch loss. These are easily the best lids EVER designed and I really expect these containers will become hugely popular in the years to come.
I have now been using these containers for over 5 months and my appreciation for them just continues to increase over time. I will now go as far as saying that these are the best storage containers ever designed, PERIOD. Tupperware, Pyrex, and all of the other popular brands simply cant compare. I still use Pyrex for some things as I own a lot of them however they just aren't as nice or convenient as the POP containers. The only negative that I can think of is that they are a bit pricey, especially the bigger containers. With that being said I have no problem paying more when it gets me something higher in quality in return and that is exactly what you get with these containers. Because of the price, its best to buy these in multiple container sets. This 10 piece set is a perfect place to start. This set includes (2) - 2/7 quart (ideal for spices, dried chilies and bouillon) (2) - 1/2 quart (ideal for tea bags, candy and sugar cubes) (2) - 8/9 quart (ideal for a standard 1-pound box of brown sugar or nuts) (1) - 2-1/9 quart (ideal for spaghetti, linguini and lasagna noodles) (1) - 2-2/5 quart (ideal size for cookies and crackers) (1) - 2-1/2 quart (ideal for rice, pasta and bread sticks) (1) - 4 quart (ideal for 5-pound bag of flour or sugar) I wish this would have come with a 3 2/5 Quart Storage Container instead of the 4 quart as that is really one of the most useful sizes as its perfect for cereal. Its not a big deal tho as you can buy all of the bigger sizes individually. The bottom line - These are hands down the best storage containers on the market and while they are a bit expensive, they are absolutely worth every penny. Save yourself a little bit of cash and buy one of the bigger sets like this 10 Piece set.

These are incredibly sleek, stackable & pantry friendly. The clear containers make finding your food quick and easy. Forget worrying about bugs in your flour, forget about leaving bulk items in their bags. These are unbreakable and easy to open & close.

These containers are ok. They seem to be airtight, are attractive and basically do what they're supposed to do. The problem is that they don't fit much because of the bulky lid. The ones that would be perfect for a bag of beans are just a tad too small and I wonder why they didn't design these things with basic pantry items in mind (pasta, rice, beans, and their "usual" package sizes). I want to buy a box of pasta, or a bag of beans, and have a container that will fit these perfectly with maybe a tad bit of room to spare. Instead, I have to use a container way too big because I need 20 beans worth of extra space, and then that container can't be used for something like sugar or flour. I purchased one set, and I think I will go with airtight glass canisters from here on out.

Do Not Buy These,

I purchased several of these over a year ago and thought they were great. After a year, they are no longer air tight! My brown sugar is hard as a rock!! The lids can be easily lifted off without pushing the button to release the seal. What a waste of money!!

These are outstanding. However, you DO have to remember that they are not made of glass or any other heavier material. Sure, it's high-impact plastic, but they are still plastic. I had a lid fall into a container, and when it hit the bottom it made a small crack in it. Not all the way through, no - it is still air tight. Sure it was a freak thing that would probably never happen again, but that it is what it is.
I would definitely buy again.

too many times people give reviews when they've only had a product for a few days or weeks. i dont feel that's a long enough time to see how a product holds up. i've had these oxos for several months now and really liked them at first. i like how easy it is to put on and remove the lids. BUT foods go stale too quickly - cereals, crackers, cookies, u name it, go stale after only a few days. so, form factor is A+, but style isn't everything and these containers dont do what they're designed to do which is to store your food products and keep them fresh. that's a big F.

My life can now be thought of in terms of pre OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set and post OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set. In the dark times, before my purchase of these glorious pieces of food preservation, I was lost amidst a sea of despair, helplessly watching my dry goods sit on my pantry shelves in... their... original... packaging... Needless to say, this only exacerbated my already potent agoraphobia, and I would go weeks without contacting another human directly for fear of them seeing a cupboard lined with cardboard and cellophane. Then, one day, as if a beam shone down from the heavens, a package arrived on my doorstep. I hastily tore through the efficient, and environmentally friendly Amazon wrappings and discovered, as a chorus of angels rang out in my head, my OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set. Like a child on Christmas morning, I raced back into my now lair-like home and began furiously dumping everything I could from my kitchen into the many conveniently sized products that make up the OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set. Sitting back, enjoying the glow of lengthier safe consumption times that are a hallmark of the OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set, I experienced what I believe the Buddhists call 'Enlightenment'. Never again would I be afraid to have people enter my home out of fear that they would see cereal in its' original box. Never again would I be bound to the flimsy plastic exterior of a package of Kroger brand spaghetti. No, no. My life has taken a turn for the organized and I now can boast of a pantry that even a Junior Vice President of Regional Sales at The Container Store would be proud of. Much like the 38th parallel during the early to mid 1950's, the OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set has divided my life into incompatible sections and acted as a chasm-creator in terms of my dry storage rebirth.
TL;DR - if you like clear boxes with click tops to put food in, these aren't half bad.

These are the best, and the worst...,

This review is from: OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set (Kitchen)
I am so torn about these containers. I love them. They are easy to use, they seal so easily, yet my kids can get the lids off and on and get their snacks. They stack well, and they look almost as nice as a glass container.
Now the worst. You cannot wash them in the dishwasher, which is super inconvenient, at least for me. They are very expensive, and I think for the price you pay, they should be the best. And my least favorite part, the plastic breaks easy, very easy. How many times do you drop a rubbermaid on the floor? They never break. My little 2 year old dropped one (empty), on the floor (about a 12 inch drop), and the whole side is cracked and unusable. To replace this bin will cost me almost $20.00 on sale. That to me isn't worth the price. Think about whether or not the price point works, and know that they won't last really long, and then make your decision whether it is worth it.

I love these pop-top containers. They keep your flour bug-free without taking up freezer space, the lids are secure, you can see what's in them and know when you're running low, etc.
And a note: these are not quite unbreakable. Dropping one of the containers on our hard linoleum kitchen floor resulted in a sizable crack in the bottom. It didn't shatter, or even break into pieces, but it's still damaged and less usable (water can seep through the crack). |
