4.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly easy to measure liquids

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, faulty manufacture
I'm normally a fan of OXO products and own many of their gadgets. These measuring cups are the first problem product I've had from OXO...both the 2 cup and 4 cup sizes cracked on the bottom of the cup, right at the plastic injection point (that little circle with the tiny bump in the center of it), and they both now leak at the crack. These cracks developed very soon...

This review is from: OXO Good Grips Angled Measuring Cup, Set of 3 (Kitchen)
This measuring cup set is simple in design, so much so that I wonder why no one had thought of it earlier. Cooks no longer have to stoop down to check the level of liquid. The biggest drawback with these cups is the plastic construction. After using Pyrex measuring cups for years, I have come to expect durability, even in the microwave; while these can be used to measure boiling water, they cannot be used in the microwave to heat liquids. They do not replace hardier measuring cups. Still, they make a useful addition to the kitchen.

If you are short on storage space, don't bother with these since you will have to keep your old cups anyway. However, if you do have room, I strongly recommend adding these to your traditional measuring cups for their ease of use and accuracy.

These cracks developed very soon after I bought them, and I only ever washed them in on the top rack of the dishwasher. Because of the design of the cups, it's kinda annoying to wash them by hand - and they're not great for measuring dry ingredients for the same reason. So mine have gone into the garbage can, replaced by the KitchenAid cups of similar appearance (although without the handy interior measuring marks). My advice, keep your receipt if you buy these. Or skip them and get the KitchenAid, which have a non-slip rubber ring on the bottom, another nice feature. And they won't crack in the dishwasher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great idea - needs a little better execution in design., March 23, 2006
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Angled Measuring Cup, Set of 3 (Kitchen)
I really love OXO equipment and I've tried to replace most of my older kitchen gear with much of their stuff. These measuring cups are really nice. The vertical-read measure marks are both easy and much more natural than holding a gallon jug of milk above your head while you keep your eyes at counter level! I'm really surprised this hasn't been copied since this style has been out for a long time. The plastic is solid, and I've used boiling water in them without cracking. They have also been through the dishwasher with no noticeable changes.

The handle is comfortable and keeps your hands from getting burned. The plastic is light enough that they aren't difficult to handle like some of my 4cup Pyrex ones.

About the only drawbacks are that they don't stack the best and mixing in them isn't the easiest because of the design. You *can* stack the smaller size in the larger by rotating it a bit off axis of the one underneath so their handles don't match up. But doing that with same size ones isn't as easy. They do stack, but It's not the best.

I give it a 4.5 on functionality and quality, saving the extra .5 because I think they can get them to stack better. I'm rounding up in this case because they are really nice. They are expensive, but I don't mind paying for quality when it's deserved.

Very handy when pouring into them while they sit on the counter, you don't have to keep bending over to read them. Worth every penny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Toxic Plastic, September 18, 2008
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Angled Measuring Cup, Set of 3 (Kitchen)
While I loved this product I have since given it away to someone who didn't really care about the BPA, etc. that is in it. I guess it is a personal choice even given the information on the news today. I wrote to OXO and this is their reply regarding the materials in the meausing cup:

The materials are as follows
PC (cup)
Santoprene (handle)

The Angled Measuring Cups have BPA. However, the amount of Bisphenol A present in the Angled Measuring Cups is less than half of the allowable limit by the European standard.

I know that tomatoes and other acidic materials cause these chemicals to leach even faster into your foods once they come into contact with BPA. Personally I would rather use glass. Maybe OXO can come up with a better/revised product.

I really like being able to pour liquids and measure from the top view. However, when I cleaned the cups with an oxo brush, it scratched the insides of the cup.

We got these for xmas last year. They were great, for about 9 months. At that point they started to spider crack on the bottom, and shortly after they started to leak. I expect more from Oxo.

THESE MEASURING CUPS ARE AWSOME!!!
Personally I hated have to fill a measuring cup and then bend down to read it. Having the markings where you are looking down on them was something I with I had thought up. Well, they are great and they are made of plastic so they are light. My only complaint is that they didn't put 1/3 cup markings heads up. Definitly gets my stamp of approval.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, not too sturdy, November 26, 2007

I love the angle on this measuring cup! Being over 6ft tall it makes it a whole lot easier to stand and measure rather than hunch over.

HOWEVER, the product says it's dishwasher safe and durable but after only 8 months of use and NO dishwasher use, there's a crack in the bottom that seeps out liquids slowly.

I am searching for a measuring cup with the same angled design made in another material, one that will last a few years at least! Until then I will replace mine with another OXO because it makes measuring liquids so amazingly simple!

5.0 out of 5 stars Next generation of measuring cups!, June 19, 2005

I loved the idea of not having to bend over to view the reading on a measuring cup. When my parents saw that we had registered for these, they were jealous, so I got them a set for Christmas after I tested them out.

I grew up on Pyrex measuring cups and I'll have to admit I'm leery of using these with anything that is too hot, or using them to boil in the microwave. I've saved my Pyrexes for those chores, but other reviewers indicate they've had no problems yet, so who knows?

I just toss them in the dishwasher after use, and they've last well for over a year now. I recommend these for yourself, and as a great gift idea.
