I really like this cake tester.
It's easier to hold and longer than a toothpick. Be sure to wipe it off right after using it so it doesn't get crusty. Even if it does - you can wash it. A wonderful product, and definitely worth the $2!

The cake tester works as good as a toothpick without worrying about the splinters. It seems more sanitary and I like the extra length.

Nice upgrade on cake tester design, easy to hold when testing whether a cake is done.

This tester looks thicker in the photos than it actually is. It's quite a bit more thin than your average toothpick. It's so thin that it always comes out clean for me when I use it. I test with this cake tester and it comes out clean but a thin knife like I normally use comes out soupy. It's a neat product but it needs to be thicker.

Never Shows Goo (and that's BAD),

My daughter snapped my old cake tester and I didn't realize that all cake testers were not created equal when I bought this Oxo one. sighhhhh It's got a nice handle for pinching between my fingers, sure, but the skinny wire doesn't really show if the batter is still gooey when I poke something that's baking. My old cake tester (sighhh again) had a little flattened piece on the end of the stick and THAT successfully showed any goo whereas this Oxo cake tester never shows goo.
Oh well. It's useful for popping the bubbles in my loaves of bread before their final rise.

so far i've used it on everything BUT cakes but it does its job, good quality handy i like the circle on top so i can fasten it to the dishwasher basket and its length is just perfect. no more underdone bundt cakes. and i like that unlike knives it really doesnt RUIN the testing area. no more burnt fingertips trying to tap hot baking goods.
i love OXO. if i continue i'll be a full OXO household

How nice it is to have another great product from OXO that makes life so much easier for those of us challenged with arthritis. I used to use a corsage pin (2" long pin with a small pearl head on it). It became difficult for me to hang on to and kept slipping out of my fingers. This new cake tester works great! Nice long needle and great pad to hold between your whole thumb pad and fore finger. I highly recommend!!!

Yes. I know you can just use a toothpick, but why would you when you have this? You can use a paper cup to drink from too but most of us use cups that are reusable don't we...
Sometimes you have to check something several times before it is done. That means using several toothpicks, or one of these. If you bake, you need this. If you know someone who bakes, get this for them.

Good cake tester, perhaps not necessary,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Cake Tester (Kitchen)
This is a great cake tester, and good for quick breads in loaf pans. It is very bendy however so you want to use it for quick breads/muffins/cakes only. I probably would not have bought this if I had found a tip from Cooks Illustrated earlier- to use a strand of dry spaghetti to test cakes. This method works really well, perhaps better than the cake tester. But since this product is so cheap it's still a good buy.

Before I purchased this, I used a wooden skewer to check my cakes. It worked, but it left a big hole in the baked goods. This reusable tool makes a hole that you cannot even see. It is super delicate, so you have to make sure you do not bend the fine wire.
I love it, and use it often. It is even dishwasher safe! |
