Fondant, fudge, and fries are more likely to attain perfection when made with a candy and deep frying thermometer such as this one from OXO. Sturdy stainless-steel construction means the thermometer won’t be harmed by hot oil splatters, while a secure pot-clip prevents slippage. Calibrated for accuracy, the 3-inch-wide, easy-to-read dial displays a temperature range of 100 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, with markings for soft ball, firm ball, hard ball, soft crack, and hard crack candy, as well as zones for caramelizing and deep frying. To use, a sliding red indicator on the rim is set at the desired temperature; when the thermometer needle lines up with the indicator, the food is ready.

The position of the 6-inch probe in a pot is easily adjusted by squeezing the clip arms and moving the probe up or down. OXO provides a convenient storage sleeve for the thermometer featuring a quick-reference temperature guide for candy types, caramelizing, and frying. The thermometer should be washed by hand as it is not dishwasher-safe. OXO will repair, refund, or replace the thermometer if satisfaction is not complete. --Ann Bieri

I usually like Oxo products, but this one is a real loser. Not only does it not give accurate readings (which in itself should deem it useless, being that it is a THERMOMETER after all) but there are other features that further enhance its horrible design. First of all, the "handy" (so they claim) spin dial that allows you to set the temperature that you want to reach, is so flimsy that the slightest movement of the thermometer throws the dial off. Useless. Secondly, after only one handwashing, water seeped under the dial face which is impossible to get out. The water then turns to steam which fogs up the display so you can't even read its inaccurate readings. 2 weeks later there is STILL steam under the dial. Useless again. And to pour salt on my already stinging wound, I had emailed Oxo to inquire about how to return this item and get a refund weeks ago, but they have yet to respond to me, even though on the package it states that satisfaction is 100 percent guaranteed. Well, I am NOT a satisfied customer and if my second attempt to reach them proves fruitless once again, then I doubt I will ever purchase another Oxo product again, no matter how good they are. It pains me to even give this product one star, as a product that's utterly useless deserves no star at all. Oxo should be ashamed of themselves. Thanks for allowing me to vent my 2 cents.

Actually zero stars. It doesn't give the right temperature. It showed 250 when temperature of fat for fried chicken was 350 according to Taylor Instant Read Digital Thermometer. I just threw it in the garbage. This is a terrible product. Shame on Oxo for distributing it. Their products are usually excellent.

This thermometer just didn't work. I ruined a batch of carmel because the gage wouldn't rise above 220. I don't know if I just got a "bad" one, but I'm not going to find out by exchanging it. When I return it, I'm getting a different, more trusted brand.

OXO thermometers do NOT give the correct temperature. Considering that's the basic function of a thermometer, what more is there to say?
