Product Description

We're all ears for a new way to remove corn kernels. It's never been easier than with the OXO Corn Peeler. The Peeler safely removes multiple rows of kernels from corn cobs with a quick and simple motion. The blade is positioned at an angle to ensure perfectly cut kernels every time, eliminating the risk of cutting too shallow or too deep. The durable, stainless-steel blade is serrated on both sides, making it easy to use for both righties and lefties. To protect fingers when the Peeler isn't in use, a cover snaps onto the blade. The soft, nonslip grip makes stripping a whole bushel of corn comfortable.

I bought two different brands of corn peeler. The other was more expensive and worked, but the OXO was easier to use and did a great job. I would definitely recommend it.

I used the Ozo corn peeler and another device to remove kernels from 100s of ears of fresh from our farm corn. I found it to be more time consuming and difficult to use than the Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper. After several attempts at aligning the cob to the correct angel and analyzing time spent on each ear, I put this one aside permanently. The Kuhn Rikon peeler is much sharper (so watch your fingers), but is much more efficient.

This is a simple tool that makes a common task easier. It is a knife for removing corn kernels from the ear. I do this a lot in the summer, both to freeze the corn and to help an older person who cannot eat from the ear. This tool makes it so much easier! The curved blade fits righbt to the cob, the corn kernels come right off. Excellent!

Let's say that I love the look of it. I haven't used it yet, but it looks as if it will be super to get the kernels off the cob. Just an extra note - I tried leaving the husks on - but cutting off the stalk end of the cob (about an inch from the handle of the corn), then putting it in the microwave for 3.25 minutes - and then (while very hot) taking it out of the oven - holding it with one of those great cotton towels- squeeze the corn right out of the cob. I can't believe how GREAT THAT WORKed. The corn was delicious - but like I said it is very hot so use caution when you squeeze it out of the husks.
NOTE for today - I finally used the Good Grips Corn Peeler - it works great BUT it only cuts off the kernels - not the white pulp under the kernels. I really like it.

It works well, but it didnt really get the whole kernel. it cut off like 2/3 of the kernel, i dont know if we just had really good corn and it was bigger than normal, but it just seemed like it was leaving part of the kernal still attached to the cob. It did cut well and would work very well with smaller kernel corn

We eat a lot of corn, and freeze lots of frozen corn. The "Oxo Good Grips Corn Peeler" was my corn cutter for the past year or so and I like it. But even with lots of practice it took longer to use than I wanted, so I tried a few other cutters.

The Oxo is OK, but I liked a Zyliss cutter better and now use it most of the time instead.

Every cutter I've tried has required practice to use well, so expect to go thru a half dozen ears before you get the hang of it. The Oxo cutter gets quite a bit of the corn off, generally doesn't cut your fingers, and has a removable protective cap to keep your fingers and the blade from meeting one another in the kitchen tools drawer.

The Zyliss is just a bit better in 3 key ways:

1) Given similar amounts of practice, I found it easier to control the cutting angle with the Zyliss. With the Oxo, even after lots of practice, I still found myself getting the blade stuck in the cob occasionally.

2) The Zyliss takes a bit more of each kernel off. WIth the Oxo I sometimes used to run my teeth over the cut cobs to eat what was left behind rather than wasting it. WIth the Zyliss there's almost nothing to eat.

3) The Zyliss seems sharper. Granted, it's newer, but I never recall the Oxo being quite so razor-sharp as the Zyliss.

Both are about equally easy to clean and store, and both handles are about equally comfortable.

I also tried one of the cylindrical cutters with 2 rods you push down with your hands to drive it down the cob. (like Norpro, but was another brand I can't find on Amazon) It was definitely faster than any other cutter I've tried, but it still got hung up in the cob about once per cob (and was nonetheless faster), and it left a *lot* corn still on each cob.

SO much better than the Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper, which was awkward to hold (with the handle pointing down, in the direction of zipping) and fell apart the first time I tried to use it. For me, the Oxo (which is held sideways, parallel to the direction of zipping) works best holding the corn on end on a cutting board and then transferring the kernels to a plate or bowl. Very happy with this product. And BTW, I asked to return the horrible Kuhn Rikon to Amazon even though I had discarded the packaging, and Amazon offered me a refund with no return necessary -- yaaay Amazon, hands-down my favorite shopping site!

FOR ME, it's better than a knife - but they STILL need to keep working on building a better mouse trap ! Maybe some "guides" or "guards" to maintain the DEPTH of the cut, rather than scalping the cobb......or maybe that's just MY problem !?!?!?
