My husband has a retainer and so he can't eat corn on the cob. With this little gadget, he can enjoy grilled corn with the rest of us. This is much better than other corn strippers we've used, because it has the corn catching cup and nice wide teeth. It works well, but be careful to follow the included instructions on how to hold your corn, or you might cut yourself! A really nice, convenient product.

I really love this thing! There is not such a mess in taking the corn off the cob and having it go everywhere. I just get a tiny bit accumulated and it doesn't splash everywhere, it stays in one place. I think it's very easy to clean and I put it in the dishwasher. The only thing is that it does take a bit of practice as I sometimes need to go down the cob again. You need to keep it close to the cob. But for me, this is a really great kitchen tool.

OXO Corn Stripper is wonderful!,

I purchased this OXO Corn Stripper because I have 2 children in braces and am not fond of any other corn stripping method. We tried the OXO last night - we were all really impressed. It's very easy to use - just run the exposed blade in the back along the corn and not only does it smoothly cut the corn, the corn is all collected in the small container on the front! No mess! After cutting the corn, you simply take the 2 piece container apart and rinse with water - very, very easy to clean! One word of warning, I would not let small children use this corn stripper because the sharp blade is exposed in the back and they could accidently hurt themselves. All in all, I gave this product 5 stars since I thought it was awesome!

I love to cook but I live in a small urban condo and don't have a lot of cupboard space so I have to be very picky with what kitchen utensils I buy but this one definately warrants a space in my droor. Before I had this I rarely used fresh corn for anything but corn on the cob but now I am going to use fresh corn for everything when it is in season because this tool works so great. Cheers to OXO for solving an age old problem!

Best Corn Stripper Ever,

This works like a charm! I can strip 60 ears of sweet corn in about half an hour, and I get nice whole kernels, not a bunch of half kernels and tons of milk. No need to scrape the ears, either!
I find it easier to strip the ears over a plate, then every third ear or so I empty the stripper and clean off the plate into my pot. Gives you more room to maneuver. Also, if you angle in the stripper toward the cob a bit, you get more kernel cut off -- just be careful not to angle too much or you dig into the cob and you have to stop and reset your angle. ALSO, for the folks that have complained about getting cut -- if you're careful and keep your hands out of the way, you don't get cut. I've yet to cut myself, and I've put up 80 pints of corn so far...

Corn Stripper,

I don't know how I managed with out the corn stripper. It is fast easy to use. There is very little clean up. I would suggest placing the corn stripper in the middle of the cob and running the stripper to each end. Using a large bowl to strip the corn and empty the corn into makes clean-up alot easier. I will never go back to using a knife again.

I don't think it's fair to the product (especially of a sharp, cutting one) to give it a bad review and placing the fault on it, rather than the carelessness of those using it. People that are handling sharp objects should always be extra careful, whether it's this stripper or a knife. You wouldn't give a knife a bad review just because you cut yourself with it now would you? I happen to think this product is fantastic and yes, it is very sharp, but that's the point right!

I agree that the cutter is sharp. I nicked my fingers a couple of times before I figured out the best way to use it. After blanching and cooling the corn, hold the ear at one end and strip the corn from the middle to the other end all the way around. Turn the ear around and strip the other end of the corn. Starting in the middle keeps your fingers away from the cutter.
This corn stripper does a very nice job and produces a lot less mess than the wooden strippers. |
