For years I dreaded handwashing the old hand egg beater because the flat surfaces on the beater seemed to hold the egg or other gunk especially when I did not wash it right away. It always seemed a germy situation if you know what I mean. Then I saw this on Amazon! OMGoodness, beaters that look like the ones from my handheld electric mixer that can easily be removed and popped in the dishwasher.

If you look closely at the photos here on Amazon, you will see that there are 4 main parts -- two beaters that easily detach (dishwasher safe), a white neck (dishwasher safe) and a handle that is easy to hold (do not put in dishwasher--probably due to the gears in this part?). There are 2 gray buttons on the front and back that you push on to release the white neck part. The gray buttons should work well and the neck should come off easily--I have ordered several as gifts and one did not work properly (appeared it was maybe a previously returned item).

Who would of thought the old classic could see such innovation!

This is such a innovative design. Rather than having to pull out the electric whisk it quickly and easily beats eggs, cream, batter to a smooth finish. So much easier than the beaters I used as a kid - and best of all the beaters can go in the dishwasher making cleanup easy. Great for kids who you don't want to trust with an electric whisk.

Best Egg Beater ever. Comfortable to use, easy to clean, very smooth to operate. I would recommend this product over an electric beater any day.

While attending a Foodblog Convention, I won this product at the OXO booth. I have to say, that the design is very clever and the handle turned very easily. I was making a pumpkin pie filling, and habitually was reaching for my whisk. Then, I remembered my "prize". I have to say that this is going to become one of my favorite kitchen tools (next to my OXO food mill). So, next time, instead of reaching for my hand mixer or stand mixer, I'll try this tool first. No electricity necessary, and I love how the beaters are easily removed by pressing the buttons. Totally dishwasher proof, but not necessary. Soap and water does the trick. Here's why I love OXO products so much-- they really think things through, when designing new tools.

I bought this egg beater about three months ago and and have used it regularly. There is nothing I could add to the glowing reports about using it. It's a great beater and the removable beaters are a wonderful innovation. I had washed it in my dishwasher with no problems until this week. The white plastic section that attaches the beaters to the handle warped -- just enough to make the product unusable. I had been placing the beaters in the cutlery baskets on the bottom rack of our dishwasher. The beater attachment must have succumbed to the heat generated during the drying cycle.

Don't get me wrong. I still love the product and intend to buy a replacement. However, from now on, I will place the beater attachment on the upper rack of my dishwasher, along with glasses & cups. That should protect it from heat exposure. Consider this review just a warning about placement during the dishwasher cycle.

An egg beater is a pretty mundane item, but this one looks like the designer actually put on his or her thinking cap.
1. The handle is very comfortable, and you can grip it in many different ways. It is made of a slightly sticky material, maybe not rubber, but at least not slick hard plastic.
2. The bottom of the device has a wire bail that protrudes slightly beyond the beater whips so they don't contact the bottom of the mixing bowl.
3. The whips detach from the gear drive so you can put them in a dishwasher.
4. The gear drive feels very smooth.

Summary: Feels like the product is very high quality for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

UPDATE: November 2013. Still working perfectly. I am more than pleased with this product. Highly recommended. NOTE: It does tend to splatter eggs, pudding, and other similar liquids very slightly in an upward direction, so be a little careful about how vigorously you crank it!

There is always need for a manual hand beater in the kitchen. The design of the Oxo Grips beater is not your old standard hand beater Gran Ma used and I was a bit sceptical in making this purchase.
But it operates smoothly, is a snap to pop the two buttons to release the beaters to put in the dish washer as the entire unit does not have to go into the dish washer.
And when the washing ands drying cycles are complete, take the clean beaters and snap them back into the housing and into storage. Works super

This egg beater is so much nicer than the old one I had. My previous model was an old-fashioned one that did not come apart. Eventually, the blades rusted, and I threw it out. This one comes apart so easily, and the parts go right into the dishwasher, which makes cleanup a dream. There is no sign of wear after six months of use, and I use this beater a lot. This is a very sturdy tool. You won't be unhappy with this product.

I read the reviews on this, and a lot of people said the gears were hard to turn. I had that experience too for about 20 seconds, until I realized if you crank it the other direction it works JUST fine :) I had excellent scrambled eggs this morning, blended very well. I have a feeling this will come in handy for many things but I'll use it for eggs primarily. I highly recommend! Completely satisfied with my purchase here from Amazon :)

I have had this hand beater for about six months. While it was great at the beginning, it's now broken. I only used it a couple of times a month. The blades detach for cleaning and the mechanism that holds the two pieces together is poorly constructed and cheap. So while a good design, simply not durable.
