Product Description

Amazon.com

If you're fond of thin cutlets or like your meat tender as butter, this meat tenderizer is the tool for the job--it's got a flat side for pounding and a textured side for tenderizing. This hammerlike gadget features one-piece aluminum construction for strength and durability. The large, comfortable handle is made of brushed stainless steel with rubber fins for comfort and will remain cool to the touch. It's also nonslip under wet or dry conditions. And the large hanging hole in the handle makes storage easy. This tool must be washed by hand. --Laurie Notaro

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical OXO quality, but keep it out of the dishwasher October 11, 2000
By A Customer
We've got OXO everything, and for good reason. They're high quality, very stylish looking, and are comfortable to use. The meat tenderizer is no exception. Solidly built, great handle, perfect weight for hammering those filets thin or beating some of the toughness out of a steak.

We made the mistake of putting ours in the dishwasher. Big mistake. The shiny glossy metal got cloudy. This is too bad, because I like to wash anything that comes in contact with meat in the hottest water possible. But treat it like you would a good knife (wash it by hand) and you'll be fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Meat Tenderizer November 12, 2006
Very excellent product. A good weight to it for really tenderizing whatever meat you are preparing (chicken, steak, etc...) The two-sided mallot works well, where you can use the flat side on chicken so as not to make a mess, and the dimpled side does a great job on tougher meats like beef to really tender them up. I would highly recommend this item and given the choice I would definitely buy it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but they make a better one December 26, 2007
I used this for several years, and it is fine for what it is. I like the handle, but the head is a bit small, which can tear the meat.

I've since replaced it with the i-series version, which I like a lot better:

OXO Good Grips 1057946 i-Series Meat Pounder

Let us be clear, if you're going to take the time to cook in your kitchen, you know a few items must need cleaning afterwards, right? Some more than others. For all those people complaining about this tool not being able to withstand the rigors that a dishwasher can dish out, here's a novel idea straight from the confines of common sense. We've all seen the little, brightly-colored spray bottles in bins at grocery stores, mega-stores and such. Fill one with half and half water and bleach, have it within reach . . . that is, just at about ankle level below the sink your standing at, spray the item to be washed and sanitized to your satisfaction (be liberal if you choose to) and then rest assured you've done everything possible under the sun to have your tight little niche of the world as "restaurant-clean and safe" as any four or five star eatery closely managed by astute folks not wanting to lose their job because of some health department oversight on their part. It's not that we are too lazy to get there, it's just that it's been such a long day with bending and such. And the heat in the kitchen, oh my! Next topic, please!

Besides the foregoing lesson, the thing works great as it should. It will pound meat all day long with the best of them and at a very reasonable price too. OXO rocks significantly!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Functionality, Not Dishwasher Safe October 30, 2004
I am yet another fan of OXO Good Grips products. The meat tenderizer is another good product. It is very ergonomic, and it's heavy/solid so that you don't have to pound as hard as you would with more lightweight tenderizers.

I don't like the fact that you can't put it in the dishwasher, but really, scrub it with some anti-bacterial dish soap and you're all set. After shopping at several home product stores in search of a tenderizer, I came back to the OXO Good Grips because I found it the best, in spite of not being able to put it in the dishwasher.

1.0 out of 5 stars Aluminum, NOT SS, NOT stainless steel December 13, 2010
By JT
It can NOT be BOTH brushed stainless steel handle AND 1 piece aluminum construction. Read the reviews, it doesn't survive the dishwasher so it IS aluminum and it is NOT stainless steel. The picture clearly shows 1 piece construction, which is aluminum.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oxo Good Grips Meat Tenderizer August 15, 2008
Bought this Oxo product based on its looks and reviews. Was I ever disappointed. A piece of junk! Top broke off the 2nd time used. Once it breaks, you can see the poor quality aluminum used in this product. Just another piece of Chinese junk in the garbage. I should have kept the warrenty for something like this. Will be buying a stainless commerical one now...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not great February 10, 2006
This does the job fine, but if I had it to do over again, I would have gotten an all stainless one. Not being able to put this in the dishwasher is a huge drawback. My two favorite words are "dishwasher safe," but to not be able to put something that touches raw poultry in the diswasher is insult to injury. I am pricing others and it looks like I'll be dropping at least $18.

The tenderizer corroded during its first washing. Aparently, using any hot temperature ruins it, including putting it in a dishwasher. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed.
Semi-frozen burgers are no longer impediments. Made good work of the beef I needed to prepare for the chicken fried-steak. Easy on the hands and easy to clean.
