4.0 out of 5 stars Great, works very well
I've been using my mini chopper for more than a year, and it still works very well!

I am not sure what's this mini chopper really intended for, but I only use it for chopping my garlic. I do cooking all day, and I use garlic all the time, so my friends recommanded me this chopper, and it really saves me a lot of time and work. Indeed, I like so much that I...

I bought my Mom this smaller-sized chopper for nuts, herbs, onions & scallions.

The good news: It chops evenly and efficiently, with a comfy plunging action.

The bad news: you have to take the entire chopper apart in order to clean it properly. There are multiple interior pieces and lots of nooks and crannies where food particles get trapped. And if you miss anything, it will mold in place (yuck.) We regularly needed hot soapy water, a toothbrush and about 10 minutes of scrubbing to clean everything out.

OXO has a deservedly great reputation for kitchen gadgets; this one needs a redesign for simplicity and easier cleaning.

I do cooking all day, and I use garlic all the time, so my friends recommanded me this chopper, and it really saves me a lot of time and work. Indeed, I like so much that I even got one for my mom, and she loves it!

I've also used it to chop other small stuff like nuts and herbs, and they work as well. I think this chopper is good for chopping small stuff, so you don't need to use your big food precessor all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, January 29, 2009

I had a similar chopper that flew apart (I got it free with something) while I was using it... I was so bummed out because it was the best thing I'd ever seen for chopping garlic. This replacement is perfect! The size is just right for garlic or small amounts of herbs. I'm not sure why there were people struggling to disassemble this to clean it. I find it very easy to pop the pieces apart and rinse with nice hot water, let dry and put it back together. It's not an aircraft engine, it's a chopper. Before you buy and give a negative review please be sure to see it's a MINI chopper! If you don't want a small chopper, buy the larger Oxo choppers available right here on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I wanted, January 3, 2007
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Mini Chopper (Kitchen)
I wrote a review for the OXO Good Grips Chopper (normal size) saying how much I love it. I bought both, thinking the mini would be good for small items, and it is. If you're looking to chop onions, buy the normal size chopper, but with anything smaller, the mini will do just fine. Buy this chopper if you like to cut things to small bits without having to work hard with a big knife.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tough to clean, March 14, 2009

I thought this would be the perfect device for chopping up walnuts, which I like to add to oatmeal for breakfast. It does chop them up reasonably finely, but many of them get stuck in the blades, from which they're surprisingly difficult to extricate. It's also too small to handle more than 2-3 walnuts at a time; the full-sized chopper would at least be more efficient. I don't know if a perfect chopper exists, but this certainly isn't it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chopping is easy, December 2, 2008
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Mini Chopper (Kitchen)
Using this item is very easy. Easy to chop and easy to hold. I have tried chopping garlic, and in less than a minute, your garlic is chopped according to your preference. You can see the texture of the garlic you want it to be, because of the clear cup. Your hands won't smell garlic. It has a spoon to scoop the chopped garlic and put it straight into the pan. The clear cup base is also use as a measuring cup. Enjoy chopping!

This is a typical chopper; however, I can't emphasize how small it is -- about two inches at the opening. Fine if you've already chopped your veggie item into 1-inch bits or smaller. Otherwise, buy the regular size unless you have a specific use for this device.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless (or at least near-useless), September 5, 2005

This clunky mini chopper seems pretty useless to me. If someone finds something that chops well using this device I'd be interested to know what it is. Everything in mine either a) jams the device up or b) "bruises" whatever I'm chopping so bad the result is completely unappetizing.

I thought this might work well for, say, cilantro or basil and the like, but the result isn't pretty...you basically get dark-green mushy stuff when you're finished.

Did I mention it's *impossible* to clean? Things get trapped *behind* the blades and go up into the handle. Good luck really flushing this thing out.

OK--well, I have to admit this chopper is decent for peanuts--those don't get caught in the mechanism. For a small amount of nuts to be chopped to go on ice cream or something this makes a decent tool. So perhaps that's one use.

Not a big expense here, and maybe the bigger chopper jams less--I don't know. Don't waste your money on this device though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not so small chopper, October 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Mini Chopper (Kitchen)
Before buying this, I saw some reviews noting it was very small. You couldn't do a whole onion, but you can do lots of garlic cloves & some onion very quickly. I love it. It just takes the headachy part of the stickiness of garlic cloves out of trying to prepare a dish. I also found it easy to clean, which had been mentioned as a down side. This is well worth the price!

1.0 out of 5 stars What was OXO thinking of??, June 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Mini Chopper (Kitchen)
This thing is completely useless. Its too small. Nothing fits in the small chamber, well perhaps a few peanuts or maybe two cashews. It doesnt chop it mashes and as other reviewers mentioned, it is extremely difficult to clean. Maybe the regular size chopper is better, but stay away from this mini chopper!!
