5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and easy to clean, December 3, 2003
This review is from: OXO Good Grips PRO Grater (Kitchen)
I used this grater last night for the first time with some pasta and was amazed at the quantity of cheese it produced in just a couple of strokes. I've always found something to dislike about cheese graters, such as cleaning them or the way you have to hold them when grating, but so far I can't find any faults with this design.

The grater has a surprising amount of heft that's concentrated in the handle. The grating surface does not feel flimsy, although I did notice some deflection if you press hard enough on it. The amount of deflection seems reasonable and normal. The grater is very rigid. The grating surface is separate from the handle, but it's held in place by several small tabs on the reverse side -- it's not going anywhere. The reverse side of the grating surface is clean and doesn't provide any place for grated cheese to get stuck. The handle's material is the same type of rubber found on other OXO products, and I found the diameter of the handle to fit my hand perfectly.

The grating surface consists of what look like little tubes that run parallel to the handle. This has two benefits. The first is that you grate on both the downstroke and the upstroke. It's really amazing how much quicker I can grate now and how much cheese comes out. The second benefit is that it's really easy to clean this grater: just wipe across the grating surface (i.e.: across, not up and down). No grated sponge!

The end of the grater is rubber for traction when resting the end of the grater on a plate, but I had no problem with just holding the grater over the plate. The cheese fell in a predictable pattern -- over my pasta and not all over the table, even with some vigorous grating.

Yes, this is an expensive grater. But if you're like me and appreciate well-made, quality tools, this is one you should add to your kitchen. It does one job, does it well, and is easy to clean up afterwards. That last part is key, because I hate cleaning up. With this grater I can just rinse it off, hang it up, and forget about it until next time.

This grater feels better and more secure in our hands than any that we've used in my memory. The grip makes grating cheeses or vegetables a breeze. The stainless steel grater and large solid handle really makes a difference. The price is great, and it feels and looks like it'll last forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down, the best hand held grater in the entire world, August 24, 2008

Dudes, if you are looking for a cheese grater, and you probably are since you visited this page, I would recommend that you buy this one. This is like the Michael Phelps of cheese graters. Seriously.

It has a good, nay, GREAT grip, and the dual action cheese grating action gives you that extra edge to win any cheese grating races you might find yourself in.

Because it is curved on top, you may find yourself with a slight arc in your cheddar. But I figure that makes it a great conversation piece, should you enjoy conversing about oddly shaped cheeses.

This is a nice, heavy duty grater. The only thing I guess I didn't get from the description or other reviews is that is is a very fine grater. I was a little worried when I first got the item because my main reason for purchasing was to use it on cheddar cheese and I didn't know how well it would handle it. However, it did a very good job...just produced finer shavings. I would certainly purchase another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very sturdy little handheld grater, February 12, 2009

A nice little handheld grater. Easy to clean, easy to use & feels solid in your hand. My old ones were getting rusty & disreputable & needed replacing so I went with the OXO based on the reviews. I wasn't disappointed. Being able to grate in both directions is just a nice bonus. Excellent product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a coarse grater, September 27, 2010

I like this grater -- it feels good in the hand, works effectively.

It was difficult to tell from the photo and description, but this is not a coarse grater -- the cheese will be finely grated. I already had one that grates this size and was actually looking for a coarser result. So just be aware of that. But I like it well enough to keep it, and that says a lot.

Since this grater grates in both directions, it takes half the time to grate anything. It is also easy to clean compared to some graters.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT QUALITY CHEESE GRATER, April 15, 2010

This review is from: OXO Good Grips PRO Grater (Kitchen)
I recently purchased the Oxo Good Grips PRO Grater and am extremely pleased with the product. Oxo makes high quality, solid, durable, ergonomic items, and this cheese grater is no exception. The grater feels pleasantly heavy and solid, and the soft plastic handle is comfortable to hold. The grater is simple to use, makes a large quantity of finely grated cheese in a minute or so, and is easy to clean.

I would definitely purchase this item, and would highly recommend it to family, friends, and other customers of Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bangin' grater, December 9, 2011

I love this grater. I can zest lemons and oranges for cookies, I can grate parmesan reggiano for pasta, and I can make nacho cheese in a flash. Also, after I wash it, I can maintain a stern grip while I dry this grater in much the same way that I imagine a samurai flicks wet blood off of his or her blade during combat. Except in my kitchen.
