Product Description

Amazon.com

Nonstick for easy cleanup and even dishwasher-safe, this 12-inch rolling pin has contoured handles for a safe, comfortable grip, with the handles raised to protect hands and knuckles from striking a countertop or pastry board. Because they're weighted, the handles always remain in the raised position. One handle has a hanging-hole, so the rolling pin can be stored conveniently. The barrel measures 2-1/2 inches in diameter, and it rolls smoothly thanks to rugged, long-lasting nylon bearings. Oxo guarantees satisfaction for the pin by offering repair, replacement, or a refund. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! December 26, 2002

I have to admit that I was surprised when the rolling pin arrived. I'm used to OXO quality, but this is over the top. It is a big rolling pin, with an ideal diameter. It is also heavy. It's heft helps keep it where it belongs, instead of bouncing around on the dough and making you work harder. It has a strong axle, which glides remarkably smoothly, even when the pressure is on. The hard non stick surface works very well, and does not pick up butter grease like some other coatings. The handles are simply the best I have have encountered. This is a very well designed kitchen tool that fully lives up to the "Good Grips" promise of quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very sticky. May 4, 2004

This is a good, solid rolling pin. Everyone loves a heavy rolling pin, but I find this one to be TOO smooth. Dough sticks to it like crazy, and you'd be better served by getting a simple (and cheaper!) wooden rolling pin that lets you spend more time rolling out dough and things instead of trying to peel off the huge pieces that are sticking to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow December 30, 2003
This smooth rolling, hefty, nonstick rolling pin is perfect for the avid baker. I've been coveting a ball-bearing rolling pin for years, but the expense has always stopped me. Now OXO has introduced a more reasonably priced nylon-bearing pin that does not adhere to dough the way wood does and is not as heavy as a marble one. The result is an ease of rolling that will make you wonder why you didn't get this sooner. It is easy to clean by hand, or, if you have room, in the dishwasher.

Highly recommended for serious bakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost didn't purchase this due to the mixed reviews... December 20, 2010
As mentioned above, I wavered back and forth on this item because the Amazon reviews were all over the place.

I needed a rolling pin right away and I needed it to work. I wasn't going to have time for a practice run. I grew up on a wooden rolling pin so I had my heart set on a JK Adams. Bed, Bath, and Beyond assured me that they had the JK Adams line in stock. That proved to be a lie, so with much apprehension I selected the Oxo pin.

My experience with the Oxo rolling pin:

The dough I was using was a very moist gingerbread cookie dough. It makes very soft cookies but my friend warned me that rolling it was tricky due to its sticky nature.

I floured the dough on both sides and rolled it out without a problem. This pin takes a light touch. The person who assisted me had trouble with the last round of "scrap" dough. Since the dough had more flour in it by this time, she should have had an easier time, but she was very rough and heavy with the pin. So it is my guess that it was how she rolled the dough out. I think any rolling pin would have given her the same issue with that approach to that particular dough.

So in spite of the spotty reviews on Amazon, the pin I purchased locally worked like a charm. Maybe it is technique and approach to rolling that makes the difference with this pin. I also had the advantage of reading all the reviews before using the product, so automatically knew I might need to alter my "rolling skills".

I noticed that the one star reviewers were using the pin on dense sticky dough (pie crust) and dense, elastic dough (pasta).

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes rolling out even tricky doughs a breeze May 21, 2009
I own many Oxo kitchen products and this rolling pin is a great example of why I do. It lives up to the name of good grips in two different ways. First, the handles fit perfectly in your hands and are easy to hold onto, even if your hands are floured or covered in dough. Second, the pin itself seems to do a good job of gripping the dough. The heft of it makes it easy to roll out even stubborn doughs to the desired thickness without tearing the dough. Best of all, I have no problems with sticking. Even if I do not grease my pin (though I do flour it lightly) even the trickiest doughs slide off easily. I've used it for everything from pizza dough to sugar cookie dough to dog biscuit dough. It's great for everything.

It's also noting that even though there is a little heft to it, it's still not unbareably heavy. I have no problem working with it or cleaning it. The only thing I have noticed is that if I wash it in the dishwasher it seems to take on water so I have to be careful when removing it otherwise it leaks a significant amount of water on the floor.

Overall this is an excellent all purpose rolling pin and one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys cooking and baking and wants high quality kitchen tools.

1.0 out of 5 stars non-stick? for flour, maybe.. May 25, 2010
After "making" yet another pie with this piece of junk, I'm now scouring amazon for a new rolling pin. I have no clue how this thing can possibly market itself as non-stick. As soon as it touches pie crust, it adheres to it, yet when I put flour on the surface of the pin it simply slides right off. I have to pat it on about 10 times to make the flour stick just long enough for 2 or 3 passes over my dough, repair what has been pulled off (as it always does with this wretched thing) and then pat pat pat on more flour. Ugh, I'm so frustrated with the stupid thing that I loathe even looking at it in passing while looking up a replacement for it. Fortunately it was a gift so I personally did not waste any money on it...Yes the grips are lovely and yes it rolls oh so smoothly, but unless you're using it for play-doh, please please do not waste your time (or patience, or your dough that you're trying so lovingly to put together).
