OXO Good Grips Salt Grinder Love IT!!!!!!!!!,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Salt Grinder (Kitchen)
I really like the grinder. I like that it doesn't leave crubs on the table when you set it down like traditional grinders. Easy to fill and easy to adjust the grind. I would recomend it. In fact I am going to buy another one for pepper.

The best salt grinder I own (and I own a few...),

I've been on a special diet for a year and a half -- and I cut out all flour, sugar, sauces, and most spices. So, for me, the only kitchen gadget I use these days is salt and pepper mills. This salt mill is the best that I have found. The grinder is adjustable and it is very easy to change the size of the salt crystals. It is so easy, in fact, that two or more people can use it at each meal and adjust the grinder to their individual preference. Most grinders require a tool to adjust the mill, this one is very easy to turn and has easily identifiable markings on the side much like a coffee mill. You turn the grinder upside down to dispense and twist the bottom of the shaker. It is easy to twist and control the salt dispensed. The pepper shaker is just as good and functions in the same manner.

Faulty cap?,

The grinder part works great, and I like that you can adjust the coarseness. However, as several other reviewers have mentioned, thanks to the loose cap, I've dumped the entire contents into a dish on more than one occasion. Disappointing. This seems to happen only when I have my entire palm resting on the bottom; if I grip with just my finger tips, the cap isn't disturbed. Still, this is the last thing I want to have to focus on while cooking, so I'll be looking for another salt grinder.

Very Nice Grinder!!!--SEE UPDATE!,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Salt Grinder (Kitchen)
We very much like this Oxo grinder. First, we like the fact that the grinder part faces up, when placed on the table. No more messy spills or container underneath needed. Second, this is easy to use, fill and adjust. Third, these have color-coded ceramic grinding plates and the overall design seems sturdy and long-lasting. It grinds well. What we don't like is that the fill stopper fits a bit on the loose side and comes loose a little too easily, when you don't want it too. (UPDATE: After trying several fixes, we solved this problem with a very small rubber band used like an o-ring on the cover.) And then there is the color, if you like the black/stainless look, this is fine, but in our ivory/white kitchen, with our ivory/lightly pastel floral dishes, it doesn't look the best. But, if going for function, this is a great grinder. We wish they were a little lower priced, but would purchase again.

I delayed buying this and the pepper grinder for weeks....why do I need to spend $20 for salt or pepper?Glad I finally did. It's sturdy, interesting, works well, and it makes me happy. The things you use often should make you happy.

Awful product,

Whenever I used this grinder, the cap that holds the salt in would fall off. The cap is placed in the center of the knob to turn to grind the salt. So, invariable the cap falls off and I end up with a mound of salt on my food. I've given it three chances, and it's ruined three dishes. Don't bother with this product.

I've been happy with other Oxo items purchased previously, including their matching pepper grinder. I bought this to grind Celtic sea salt, which is rather wet and can clog grinders. So far it's working perfectly. I especially like the range of grind sizes available (very fine to quite coarse). The grinder is easy to fill, as it stands upsidedown on its own.

OXO salt grinder,

The grinder works great, I like that you can control the size of the grains. Unfortunately the part the grinder stands on, which is also the part that opens up to refill it with salt, doesn't tighten properly. I've ruined a few dishes by picking this grinder up to add salt and then have the bottom fall off and dump a mound of salt on it.

Loose end cap leads to spills,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Salt Grinder (Kitchen)
I bought this grinder from a bricks and mortar store. It grinds very well -- no complaints there. I gave it two stars, however, because the end cap on the bottom of the grinder is very loose, and almost turns freely. More than a couple of times, the cap has flown off while I was mid-grind. Today, the cap loosened itself but didn't fly off... until I flipped the grinder right-side up when I was done with it. Salt everywhere.I'm not sure if my unit is bad, or if this is a design problem. I wrote to Oxo about a replacement, and if that doesn't pan out, I'll try to take it back to the store I got it from and see if they'll exchange it. |
