Product Description

Size: Pack of 1

The OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer efficiently juices lemons, limes and other citrus fruits. The pointed tip and sharp edges make it easier to begin and continue the juicing process. The Reamer is made of solid beech wood, which does not react with acidic fruits, making the product more durable. We do not recommend washing your wooden tools in the dishwasher.

Anyone who is going to be cooking with lemons or limes needs to have this reamer in their kitchen. It's much easier on your wrists than using a countertop juicer. If you hold the citrus fruit in your palm cut side facing up when juicing it with the reamer, you'll get all the juice out, but most of the pits will stay inside the fruit. The grooves are cut sharply and deeply and make it easy to crush into the fruit.

To protect the wood of the reamer (or any other wooden kitchen tools, such as utensils or cutting boards), apply some mineral oil to the surface, and spread it around with your fingers, rubbing in the oil to make sure it is fully absorbed by the wood. Then, leave the reamer to dry. Apply mineral oil every couple of months or so. The oil protects the wood and protects it from drying out and cracking.

I like the feel of this in my hand, but after the first washing, the wood cracked in several places. There were no washing instructions included so perhaps I used water that was too warm/hot. I didn't use soap, but I rinsed it before using it. Then I used it to get the juice out of about 40 key limes. I don't know if it was the acid of the key lime juice or the water temperature. I wish it had care instructions so I would know what I did wrong, if anything.

This is by far the best way to juice citrus fruits. Its especially good if you have arthritis or repetative stress injury that makes using the old fashion hand juicers harder. Of course, you could try using electric juicers, but they can be a pain to wash after your done (like any juicer). I strongly prefer this method over all that I have used.

This is a must have kitchen tool. What a joy to use.
It can extract the juice to the point where what is left inside the
rind is virtually dry to the touch. Cleanup? All I have to do is rinse it
under some running water and "lightly" go over it with a brush, it doesn't require
soapy water and why would I risk drying out such fine wood with a soapy soak - a quick
rinse and be done with it. Nothing could be easier.

Here's a tip. I work the reamer over a cup or glass filled with water.
After you have extracted out the juice notice all that small amount of nice semi-dry pulp that
remained clinging to the reamer ribs? Don't waste that, simply dip the reamer into
that cup/glass of water and the pulp floats off easily into the juice contained water.

Wonderful product, outdoes any mechanical juicer for efficiency and cleanup takes mere seconds.

Enjoy

I got this product for one purpose, to get all the juice out of a lemon. It bothers me to waste real lemon juice. But I noticed how much effort I had been making just to squeeze a lemon, and doing so revealed that I usually have at least one small paper cut on my hands. That stings.

This little reamer makes the job so easy that I cannot believe it took me this long to get one. The fact that it's made of wood is nice too. It's easy to clean and nice to hold and use. In the end, this reamer is saving me money. I recommend it.

At last, a lemon squeezer that gets it all. The squared off edges bite into the pulp so well that there is very little juice left on the rind. The point bores through the end of the lemon rind, forcing it higher up the shaft so that it fills larger lemons thereby relieving you of the chore of gripping the rind ever tighter to ream out the last bit of juice. This is a big plus for those of us who have gotten older and lost some of our ability to grip as tight as we once could.

I actually use this to make fresh orange juice on the weekends. I just cut a small section off the top of the orange and ream it out with this reamer while squeezing a bit with my hand. I do this over a fine strainer on top of a bowl and then transfer to a glass. Takes about 4 large oranges to get a full glass. I have tried MANY different citrus juicers, both manual and electric. This is by far the best and quickest way. Granted you will get more yield with an electric juicer, but I don't always want to deal wirth the set up, break down, and clean up. This tool is quick and easy. Nice, solid wood design. I love it and will probably buy another as back up. I just wonder if I should coat it with mineral oil once in awhile. I haven't yet and it seems to be holding up OK.

OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer

A very nice hand reamer for my citrus, it's lightweight and sits comfortably in my hand as most OXO brand utensils do...My only recommendation is to rinse it off the moment you're done and let it dry completely before storing, since it's wooden...In future I think if it breaks (from wear and tear) or goes missing, although there's nothing wrong with this one, I'll buy OXO's aluminum reamer instead so I don't have to worry about the preservation of a wooden utensil.
