5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Tool
Anyone who is going to be cooking with lemons or limes needs to have this reamer in their kitchen. It's much easier on your wrists than using a countertop juicer. If you hold the citrus fruit in your palm cut side facing up when juicing it with the reamer, you'll get all the juice out, but most of the pits will stay inside the fruit. The grooves are cut sharply and deeply...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wood cracked on OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer
I like the feel of this in my hand, but after the first washing, the wood cracked in several places. There were no washing instructions included so perhaps I used water that was too warm/hot. I didn't use soap, but I rinsed it before using it. Then I used it to get the juice out of about 40 key limes. I don't know if it was the acid of the key lime juice or the water...

This is by far the best way to juice citrus fruits. Its especially good if you have arthritis or repetative stress injury that makes using the old fashion hand juicers harder. Of course, you could try using electric juicers, but they can be a pain to wash after your done (like any juicer). I strongly prefer this method over all that I have used.

I wish it had care instructions so I would know what I did wrong, if anything.

OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer

A very nice hand reamer for my citrus, it's lightweight and sits comfortably in my hand as most OXO brand utensils do...My only recommendation is to rinse it off the moment you're done and let it dry completely before storing, since it's wooden...In future I think if it breaks (from wear and tear) or goes missing, although there's nothing wrong with this one, I'll buy OXO's aluminum reamer instead so I don't have to worry about the preservation of a wooden utensil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Immensely easy to use and more effective than a mechanical juicer., December 28, 2009

This is a must have kitchen tool. What a joy to use.
It can extract the juice to the point where what is left inside the
rind is virtually dry to the touch. Cleanup? All I have to do is rinse it
under some running water and "lightly" go over it with a brush, it doesn't require
soapy water and why would I risk drying out such fine wood with a soapy soak - a quick
rinse and be done with it. Nothing could be easier.

Here's a tip. I work the reamer over a cup or glass filled with water.
After you have extracted out the juice notice all that small amount of nice semi-dry pulp that
remained clinging to the reamer ribs? Don't waste that, simply dip the reamer into
that cup/glass of water and the pulp floats off easily into the juice contained water.

Wonderful product, outdoes any mechanical juicer for efficiency and cleanup takes mere seconds.

Enjoy

We've found this perfect for juicing a lemon or lime. It makes it convenient and simple to add juice where a recipe calls for it. Don't know how we got along without it!

3.0 out of 5 stars better than squeezing, November 16, 2010

i have an old reamer that i love. these tend to work better than a hand squeezer. however, i was surprised when i saw how big and heavy the handle was on this item. a little cumbersome for those with physical restrictions. would like to have seen a hook on the end for hanging, as it takes a lot of drawer space. the wood still works better than the plastic varieties.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the weak grippers, January 3, 2009

At last, a lemon squeezer that gets it all. The squared off edges bite into the pulp so well that there is very little juice left on the rind. The point bores through the end of the lemon rind, forcing it higher up the shaft so that it fills larger lemons thereby relieving you of the chore of gripping the rind ever tighter to ream out the last bit of juice. This is a big plus for those of us who have gotten older and lost some of our ability to grip as tight as we once could.

I debated on what type of juicer or reamer to get and I realized upon reading other reviews that this was the correct one. I thought a metal one would be better for sanitary and durability reasons, but the wooden one is shaped better than any metal ones I've seen. The sharpness of the wooden edges works really well to juice lemons and limes. I can't compare it a metal one because I never purchased one, but I'm pretty sure I made the right choice because it works perfectly.
