Product Description

When a recipe calls for zest, using the right tool is essential. The OXO Good Grips Zester features an etched stainless steel grating surface for perfectly zested citrus fruits or finely grated cheese. A soft, comfortable, non-slip handle provides a secure grip and cushions hands during repetitive grating motions.

I can't even remember why I purchased this over the Microplane zester - assuming because I was being a cheapskate. Today, the Microplane is less than $1 more than this one, ugh! I suppose that satisfaction depends on your purpose for ordering this. I ordered it to use as a citrus zester and this is a horrible citrus zester. Results are more like grated cheese than a nice, fine zest. I'm not sure if it's my technique, but the little grates are actually quite large to be considered a zester. This is more of a grater than a zester. I get large chunks of orange "zest" and find it a hassle when trying to make small confections like madeleines where I want really finely grated zest. I'll eventually break down and buy the Microplane zester...

Just a warning to pass on this if you plan on using this as a zester - they should change the labeling to just GRATER.

FYI, several months later I found a microplane sestet at tj maxx....a zillion times better than this zoster. My madeleines turn out as they should, with very fine citrus zest. Just to be clear, this oxo is a perfectly functioning grater, but is NOT meant for zesting. If you're looking for a zester, skip this and go straight for the microplane. You won't be sorry.

I ordered this zester because i make a lot of citrus dressings and marinades and this zester is perfect.
It zests just the right amount without the bitter pith. I have grated oranges, lemons, limes and even cheese and chocolate! love this gadget. will def be ordering more OXO products to grow my kitchen gadget collection.
It also cleans very easily and does not require much storage space. I highly recommend this zester.

I used my new grater for the first time and it was wonderful! I was using it to grate a lemon for a new recipe and it worked like a charm. I have had trouble with my old one cutting my fingers but not this time. I had the job done in seconds and without any cuts to my fingers. I have since used it for carrots and several other things and every time it worked perfect.

I have used the all metal bar type zester before and wanted to find something a little more comfortable to hold, so I purchased this one with high hopes. I tried to zest a lemon and it would hardly zest any of the lemon. The little bit that did go through the zester turned into more of a lemon mush substance rather than a zest. The blades feel so flat that I don't think they are sharp/curved enough. Maybe I used a bad lemon, I will try it on other foods but not impressed so far.

This is product should be called the non-zester!
The metal is so flat that you might as well rub a lemon over a mirror because you'll get the same result.
Some of the OXO products are good, but this one needs work!

i use this more for garlic than anything else. the garlic flavor is released into the dish more easily than sliceing or mincing and no chunks of garlic floating around

The blade flexed too much and the teeth weren't sharp enough to zest a lemon. This is a micro-plane design modified by OXO's lawyers afraid of a "zested" knuckle lawsuit. By far, the worst implement I've purchased from OXO.
