5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!
I put flax seed in my cereal every morning and love this grinder. Since I only eat the daily recommended allowance of 2 tablespoons, it's perfect. However, if I had grind a large quantity, I would not use this. It's a convenient item and none of that annoying noise from the electric ones.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only good for seasoning, not for reasonable quantity
I bought this grinder so that I can get fresh flax seed meal every time I need it instead of buying prepackaged flax seed meal from health food store. I was very disappointed that it works like an ordinary seasoning grinder. It is fine if you want to only sprinkle a little on top of your food. But, if you plan to get 1 to 2 oz of flax seed meal a day as recommended,...

I bought this grinder so that I can get fresh flax seed meal every time I need it instead of buying prepackaged flax seed meal from health food store. I was very disappointed that it works like an ordinary seasoning grinder. It is fine if you want to only sprinkle a little on top of your food. But, if you plan to get 1 to 2 oz of flax seed meal a day as recommended, forget it, because you will have to be very very patient and work hard too -- just keep grinding and grinding for at least 15-20 minutes. I think this device is stupid. Why charge so much? I can get a spice grinder for a few bucks. It is not designed for handling a reasonable amount of flax seed. When I set it to coarse, flax seed comes out almost intact. When I set it to fine, only bits come out and broken flax seeds are attached to the surface of the teeth of the grinder.

I bought the flaxseed grinder, in spite of the negative reviews, but those reviewers were right. It takes aproximately 100 twists of the mill to get 1 teaspoon of ground flaxseed. at two twists per second, it would take five minutes of to get two Tablespoons of ground flaxseed (and a case of carpal tunnel syndrome, as well).

i like this grinder, the cap keeps the seeds fresh and the size is good for the hand but it arrived with no instructions. i realize there isn't much to it but the editorial review says there are five grind positions mine has one-- grind or not grind. i can't see how it would adjust. the button on the side releases the top from base but not snoothly and i wondered if i was breaking it. the top fits tightly and at first i thought the button was the release for the top. i think for [the price] instructions should be with it. i pulled the seal to release the flaxseed but even that plug was so well made i wasn't sure if it was disposable and hay maybe it wasn't and thats why i don't have more than one grind position. i planned to purchase the set for salt and pepper but i think ill wait to see it this one is ok first.

This item is constructed like a pepper mill grinder. No matter how long and how hard you twist the top, very little flax seed comes out. What's the point of such a small amount? Most uses of flax seed require two tablespoons daily. It would take forever to get two tablespoons from this grinder.

Take my advice. Buy a good quality flax seed and grind it in your blender. Much easier. Tastes great in smoothies.

I gave it one star because it's a pretty little thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine Grinder, October 2, 2005
This review is from: OXO Grind-It 1056265 Organic Flax Seed Grinder (Kitchen)
I bought this product to grind the flax seed that I sprinkle on top of the Scotties evening meals, and it works just perfectly for that. The grinder turns out a small about of ground seed quickly, and the grinder is ergomatically designed to fit your hand perfectly. The coarseness levels are not clearly marked, but with a couple trials, you can get the coarseness just right. For larger quantities of grinding for baking, I will continue to use my electric mill, but for daily small amounts, this is very convenient. Also, the flax seed that comes with it was fresh and decent quality, which is unusual in most willed spice containers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this little gizmo, March 2, 2006
This review is from: OXO Grind-It 1056265 Organic Flax Seed Grinder (Kitchen)
This is the perfect tool for those of us who are not dedicated enough to add flax to meals daily....it sits on the kitchen counter and does not look like clutter, when I add salt and pepper, I grind some flax, when cooking I add some flax and when I have juice or a smoothie I add some flax, I'm sure I get my daily allowance because it's so available. The different sizes for the grinder and the fact that it can easily be refilled is a definte plus........the very simple instructions are in the lid (it would be easy to miss if your not looking fo r them).

Unlike other reviewers I do not find it takes that long to get a decent amount of flax seed ground. I can get about a tbsp. in about 30 sec. I will admit that the adjuster to vary how fine or coarse is not that great and also that the grind you do get from it is not very uniform.

Bought this as a birthday gift for my wife since she often uses groung flax seed on her waffles. After the brief excitement of having a grinder we quickly learned that that it takes a long time to get anything out of it. We have since returned the unit.

Thanks to the reviewer who explained how to adjust the grinding mechanism, I have enjoyed using this comfortable, stylish grinder. I toast the flax seeds before grinding them to use in breadmaker breads. If you need more than 1 or 2 TBS, it's better to use a coffee grinder dedicated to spice grinding.
