The tongs are very well made and heavy duty.

They work great, and the silicone covers on the end ensure that you can use them in your favorite Teflon pan and not worry about scratching it.

The locking mechanism in the back is a great feature for storage.

Sorry about the Title. I agonized about it, I really did. Then I went and did it anyway.

I bought these when I realized how easy it was to mark the bottom of my new 7 qt. enameled cast-iron pot. Yikes!

The tongs are very well made and heavy duty. They feel strong enough to pick up a small baby. Everyone in the family grabs their babies protectively when I have my tongs so I guess I will never find out.

The silicone on the heads is much more heat resistant than nylon so I've no worries on that score. I've had a number of tongs over the years and these are by far the best. I recommend them unreservedly.

The idea of a tong seems pretty straight forward and at first I questioned how a tong could be bad. Once I got the Oxo Tongs I realized how a tong can standout from the competition. You want a tong that is sturdy enough and well built that you can use and feel comfortable when using but also to be delicate enough that when you grasp something you destroy it. In addition you dont want your tongs to be metal and scratch your pan or plastic that will burn (silcone is hands down your best bet).

These tongs are strong enough to grab a steak off the grill but still delicate enough to grab a taco shell without ripping it. THe grip feels comfortable in my hand as well as my wife's hand which is much smaller than mine. The tongs are well made and have stood the test of time. My wife normally buys Rachel Ray products but I feel that the Oxo Tongs are better made than any of her Rachel Ray cooking tools.

these are great. I like the silicone heads over the nylon. the nylon tips tend to burn/melt rather than these which are 600 F resistant. Love the locking feature. dishwasher safe. good grips handle.

I think size is great for regular kitchen use. The short tongs allow for more dexterous use than longer tongs. The grips are well placed, and my hand has never slipped on them. The pull tag on the end works smooth, and allows for one handed use when necessary. The tips are metal with a thin layer of silicon covering them, so you have good gripping power, and they won't scratch your pans.

The silicon is starting to split after a few months of ownership, though I only use them about once a week.

Ok, which tongs to buy? I have a set of the 14 inch Oxo tongs with the aluminum heads, but since I recently acquired some pfoa-free nonstick pans, I don't want to scratch them with my tongs. And I like tongs for turning food in a pan--so much easier than using a fork or a spatula.

I was attracted to Rachael Ray Tools 2-Piece "Lil' Huggers" Tong Set, Orange so colorful, but I ended up with the Oxo because I like the ability to lock the heads with the pull tab on top, and the heads have some scallops to improve the grip when turning whatever it is you are cooking.

If you haven't tried tongs for flipping foods instead of a spatula, well, it's a treat. Of course, the cat disapproves, as he was able to keep any chicken strips that flew to the floor when I flipped them accidentally out of the pan, using the spatula. Now, he sits and salivates, sadly, under my feet when I cook. Tough luck, kitty.

For our wedding, my wife and I received many expensive anodized pots and pans for our kitchen. I was constantly worried about damaging them by using them with metal kitchen tools. These tongs with silicone heads have calmed all my fears. These tongs are the same great quality as all of the other OXO Good Grips tools, and are great for manipulating things as you cook/bake/fry them. They also pop in the dishwasher for quick cleanup after you're done.

A bit of advice--find a ruler and make sure you have a good understanding of the size of the tongs you're ordering. I first ordered the 9" set of tongs, but when they arrived, they were shorter than I thought (completely my own fault, I thought that 9" would be bigger ["That's what she said!"]), but I kept the 9" pair for more delicate work, and got the 12" pair as well for most of my cooking/frying work. I'm very happy with both pairs!

I needed some new silicone tongs for my new teflon grill so, having had good luck with other items from the OXO brand, I decided to get these. I don't often give one star reviews, and had high hopes for these. But after some consideration, I feel these warrent a low rating and here is why.

Pros:
Perfect length (12")

Cons:
Wobbly at the hinge, tongs don't line up well but instead wobble around
Not ergonomicly designed for a good grip
Heavy
Silicone ends are thick and clumsy

I had difficulty gripping the bacon with these to turn it over, since the ends are so thick and don't really mesh together well, as well as the tongs being a bit difficult to grip since they are thick and heavy for what they are. Something thicker than bacon would probably be easier to pick up with these.

As I tried to pick up the bacon, these felt very uncomfortible in my hand. The tips wiggled around like the hinge was loose and about to come apart. The tips actually slide back and forth against each other, the hinge is so loose. The tips don't ever align.

And they are super thick tips too. The silicone is slippery and with such thick tips, and the tips sliding all over, it was quite a chore to try to get a piece of bacon grasped in the tips of these.

They have surprising weight to them also. I've owned several sets of tongs and these seem to weigh a ton compared to the others. I can't imagine why they are so heavy.

We want our tongs to be light, easy to use, grasp things well, and have precision tips for manuevering food and picking it up, and these fail in all these ways. I did manage to get the bacon picked up finally but it was more difficult than it should have been.
