Not OXO's best product,

I've purchased and enjoyed many OXO products in the past, and will purchase and enjoy OXO products in the future. This digital thermometer was definitely not one of their finer efforts.
I got to use the thermometer a grand total of 3 whole times before it quit working, and I absolutely could not turn it off. The little on/off button on the top had quit responding, as had the button that switched the display between F and C. On top of that, I couldn't open the battery compartment to try to see if there was a reset switch. No amount of effort would turn the coin-sized slot enough to get the cover off. All that was accomplished was shredding the plastic. There are other thermometers out there. Pick one of them.

worthless!,

We got the OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer for our wedding shower. The screen is too heavy for the thermometer, especially for a digital one. Instant read is a joke; it takes far too long to give you a reading. And then there is the issue of accuracy. Sometimes it gives us an accurate reading, sometimes it doesn't. We have to double check with another thermometer. Save your money, there are better products out there.

Slow and flawed design,

I tend to like most OXO stuff, but this thermometer is an exception. It takes a very long time to read temperatures, and maybe worse than that, the display is angled in such a way that makes it difficult to read.

slow but sure,

It is fairly accurate but far from instant read. It takes 20-25 seconds to read a new, different temperature and thus is not suitable for grill cooking.

I can't be as hard as some of the other reviewers. I've had mine about a year. Actually I bought 3 (I do some catering). 2 have conked out and the third is off about 3 degrees. What I like is the huge display. I also like the price. The digital head isn't as big and clunky as the CDN type but these seem to break just as fast. Sometimes the display angle is good and sometimes it's difficult to see without twisting my head. Depends on what you're doing. All three of mine were slower than I thought they should be. They take about 15 seconds to get an accurate temperature. Not a bad investment for as much as I used them but I think there are better choices. If they had failed sooner like some of the other reviewers, I would have given a single star.

Waste money and frustrate yourself at the same time with this thermometer!,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer (Kitchen)
At first I was really excited about purchasing this thermometer. I took it home and immediately removed it from the packaging, testing the buttons to make sure they worked. Then, after a few months without needing the thermometer, I finally made a recipe that required me to keep an eye on the meat temperature. Great opportunity to test out the thermometer! Or so I thought. When I pulled the thermometer out, it was completely dead. After taking the battery out, I found that the thermometer used an AG13 battery. Thinking that I'd give the thermometer another chance, I ordered replacement batteries on Amazon.com and then put the battery cover back on. Fatal mistake: The battery cover simply cannot be removed anymore. Terrible product, through and through. I was suckered into paying $20 for something that I never used once and have no hope of using ever, despite purchasing brand new batteries for it. No more OXO electronics for me.

Firt time bought-it really does not do the job,

I bought this product a few months ago because I no longer wanted to overcook my meat.
It took forever to reach to correct temp. I mean really forever. This will go into my yard sale.

One Season Wonder,

OXO has been a brand that we've trusted, for good reason, but this thermometer lasted less than a year before ceasing to work. Opening the battery access panel is a bit of a trick, but replacement of the 1.5VDC battery was to no avail. Dead. No easy way to disassemble to determine the cause, either. Great form, disappointing function.

Not one of Oxo's better products,

I'm careful in selecting products, since I get them when I'm in the States, and use them 9,000 miles away where I now live. So, I read all the reviews, trust OXO, having used their products before. I ordered this and took it "home." While it worked, it worked pretty well -- the readings were slow for an "instant read," but I enjoyed the fact that I could even read the temps of thin little Paillards, since the first sensor was right on the tip of the device.
One day, a few months later, the thing stopped working. Battery -- probably. I turned it over and took a screwdriver to the slot on the back, which yielded a quarter turn -- and no further. I thought "maybe it only turns a quarter turn and then pops open." nope. So I tried to turn it further -- the cheap pastic around the slot shredded. This was either designed as a disposable with the appearance of longevity, or is really supposed to have a replaceable battery, but is the victim of OXO cheaping out on their choice of plastic for the casing. Either way -- It is a DISPOSABLE thermometer, and a dang expensive one. Now I'm buying a new one to pick up on my next visit. In the meantime, I hope the meat is cooked enough .... :)

I have also only used this thermometer a handful of times yet it's already being unreliable. It worked in the beginning but now just turns on momentarily, or not at all. The battery in it should be fine, seeing as how I've used it probably three times, but who knows. I would suggest getting another one, even though oxo generally seems to be a good brand.
