5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a first chef's knife
I've been using utility knives all my life, but wanted to purchase a chef's knife since I'm doing a lot more cooking these days. This OXO knife looked like a good yet inexpensive way to start. The knife is well balanced with a comfortable grip and the length is just right for my smaller than average hands. I'm pleasantly surprised by how easy all my slicing and chopping...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not in the same class as Oxo's 8 inch professional chef's knife
Oxo's 8-inch professional chef's knife has won countless contests - surprising reviewers who were skeptical that a $20 knife could perform better than $75 and $150 German competitors. And I'm a believer.

The knife is well balanced with a comfortable grip and the length is just right for my smaller than average hands. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife - Better and cheaper than competition!, November 4, 2007

My wife and I have been looking for a good set of knives for a while now. We were comparing Henckels, Wusthof, and Shun. Then we found OXO Professional. I must say, this knife is as good as those if not better. It has a great balance and feel. It slices, dices, chops, cuts among the best of chef knives. The non-slip handle is great! I have never lost my grip even when the handle was completely wet. This knife is a good comparison to Wusthof Grand Prix II; they are virtually the same except OXO is MUCH cheaper!

We bought this knife to decide if we wanted to buy the complete OXO Professional set and after handling this knife, we decided to buy the complete set. And at $100 for the entire set, you are saving anywhere from $600 - $1000 over the competition!!

Take it from me, if you are looking for good knives at a good price, give OXO a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Niche item, born for the galley!, December 12, 2005
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Professional 6-Inch Chef's Knife (Kitchen)
I chose his knife for several reasons. Economy, size, surehandedness and space limitations, and the knife validates my expectations. I selected the 6" OXO MV55-Pro hoping it would serve as a compromise tool on my boat. Inexpensive, if it doesn't prove to be durable, stowable & weildable aboard, no slip ups underway with the grip, Not overly big, responds to elements well and performs admirably when one steps down (read: up) from an 8" or 10" Chef knife in this environment. No brainer, I would market it to Marine interests. Buy it with confidence!
P.S. Fillet duty is a breeze!

So I was very disappointed by Oxo's 6-inch professional chef's knife. The grip is terrific. The blade shape is excellent, and the blade is capable of being very sharp. But there's just not enough metal in the blade. Simply put: it doesn't work as well as you'd expect if you've used the larger version - which is my favorite knife.
If you want to be astonished, buy Oxo's larger model. You'll be dazzled. But if you're looking for something smaller, this knife isn't it.

This is our first "chef's" knife, so my opinion may not carry as much wieght as more experinced cooks.
This knife is the perfect size for cutting chopping dicing etc. It's the new workhorse in our kitchen. the knife is quite sharp after 3 month's of moderate use.

I bought several Oxo knives from Amazon. They are well balanced and very sharp. I keep them sharp with a ceramic sharpener. I have 2 professional knives that I spent over $50 each for and these knives do not perform any better than the Oxo knives. I love every Oxo kitchen product I've ever bought.

I always wash my good knives by hand, putting them in the diswasher is sure to ruin them, the dish detergent is corrosive over time. This was recommended by a professional chef.

This is the knife I reach for most often. I have two other full size chef knives, plus a smaller chef knife of another brand. But this one feels the best in my hand, doesn't slip, and goes into the dishwasher with ease. It is great for small and medium chopping jobs, which is generally the case for my small family. I have used it for a year and it retains its sharpness with a few passes of a ceramic knife sharpener.

I bought this knife as I wanted a smaller chef's knife, and wasn't in the mood to cough up $50 - $70 for a Henckels. Much to my surprise, I really prefer the feel of this knife in my hand to the feel of my Henckels (I have a set of Henckels Gourmet - not top of the line, but not the cheapest either).

I have used the Oxo for six months, and it remains sharp. I hand-wash and dry it every time I use it, and run it through my ceramic knife sharpener a couple of times before putting it back in the block. I will not hesitate to buy more Oxo knives. The blade seems quite good, and the balance and comfort-level is excellent.

Got this knife based on the reviews and wasn't blown away. It works fine, the handle is really comfortable and the blade is nicely balanced, but it stains incredibly easy even if it's always handwashed (all my older knifes are looking good and this looked as if it was 50 years old after a week of use). It does not get as sharp as I expected either... So, it's definitely usable, but not as amazing as I expected.

Excellent knife for working with vegetables, potatoes, chicken, meats or cold cuts, etc. Blade stays sharp and regains its edge quickly with a few strokes on a steel. Handle is comfortable and ballance is great. I especially like it as I have rather large hands and the knife is comfortable to hold and operate. It is well made and has held up well.
