5.0 out of 5 stars Bigger than I thought
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:23 Mins
When I read "pastry" brush, I thought this would be quite dainty and I was considering buying the larger model. I am glad I did not as this brush is quite beefy. (see my video review) I haven't used for any basting yet, but like most of Oxo products it looks and feels well made.

2.0 out of 5 stars not durable
I use it for barbecue sauce and basting chicken in its own drippings. It's good for thicker sauce but chicken drippings are really too thin for silicone bristles. It does cleanup very easily with a soak and swish in hot soapy water. It has a nice shape and angle so it fits well in the hand and keeps the business end off the countertop, too.

This is a gentle and useful pastry brush that will not leave bristles in your food. It holds a lot of liquid to spread and cleans easily. The best!

the magazine "cooks illustrated" (a consumers reports of cooking) recomended this brush. they liked that the bristles would not warp and that it will hold alot of basting liquid in it's bristles. they rated it first among other basting brushes.

America's Test Kitchens recommended this brush and I thought I would try it. It exceeded my expectations in every possible way. I use it for BBQ Sauce when I grill. It picks up so much sauce in the unusually shaped bristles and doesn't drip at all. Each silicon "bristle" has a channel that holds the sauce - this is what makes it so effective. Cleaning is a breeze. As soon as I am done grilling, I run it under warm water and it cleans immediately as if it had never been used. As usual, America's Test Kitchens know what they are talking about! You won't find a better brush than this one - it doesn't exist.

I've put off buying a silicone basting brush - they just didn't look efficient. But, I used a friend's and was totally sold on them. I love this particular OXO - it holds a lot of basting sauce/liquid, washes up like a dream and doesn't mess up the counter when you place it down between bastings. I use it for everything, not just baking. Will buy one with a longer handle for bbq.

This was an excellent replacement for my aging basting brush. Holds liquids very well. Toss it in the dishwasher when done. No muss, no fuss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Throw Out Your Other Brushes!, October 26, 2007

Oxo does it again! I've been using silicone brushes for years and I thought I'd picked winners until I tried this one. It is comfortable in the hand and diswasher safe.

Best feature -- it works! It doesn't drip liquid, yet it makes liquids easily spreadable. It really suspends the liquid in the bristles until you apply it to the pastry. You get the control of a bristle brush without picking bristles from your food or worrying about how to clean the brush.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great,, June 11, 2008

I love these Oxo products and stopped buying anything else. They now have a tool that covers everything, including cutting boards and strainers. They're long lasting, easy to clean and durable. Just a note I don't put mine in the dishwasher and wash them by hand in order to extend the life of the items.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect brush!, July 11, 2010

I have not liked previous silicone brushes because they just don't hold on to anything but the thickest basting sauces.
Bristle brushes are great for butter and egg washes, but they sometimes lose bristles, hold on to smells, and never seem to clean out well.

So along comes the perfect silicone brush!! This hold on to everything, can be used as a basting AND a pastry brush, and spreads evenly.
Throw it in the dishwasher, and it's good to go for the next cooking project.
I heartily recommend this.

I love many OXO products, and this brush is no exception. It holds a lot of melted butter, sauce, or pan drippings, and is very flexible, unlike many bristle brushes. There are no bristles to shed, and so far, it's held up well under high heat and frequent use. Best of all, it cleans up easily.

You can't ask for anything more.
