This colander is wonderful! It is big enough for vegetables, pasta, etc. But it collapses and takes up no space in your cabinet. My old colander takes up half the cabinet. I installed a sticky hook inside my cabinet door and I hang this colander there. What a space saver! And it's from OXO, just love all their products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've seen, May 21, 2009

I've looked at a bunch of silicone colanders in stores. They tend to suffer from a couple of problems. The first is that they tend to have too few holes to drain water quickly. This sounds like a silly complaint, but it's really annoying to have a slow-draining colander when, for example, rinsing cooked pasta. This colander has plenty of holes, and consequently drains very quickly.

The second problem silicone colanders tend to have is that they are often flimsy and collapse easily. This Oxo stands up solidly on its own, and the metal frame is heavy enough to feel very solid.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to store..., October 20, 2008

I purchased this colander for a gift so I can't comment too much on its functionality. I chose this one over the one without feet because of its hands-free use. I pushed it out, & stood it up to check its stability. The legs are about 1/2" high; the colander appears to be very sturdy, has strong easy to grip handles and should keep its shape when you pick it up to pour out the contents. It's dishwasher safe and can also be used for steaming vegetables. It's made in China.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, September 23, 2010

This is a great colander - it has lots of drainage holes, great handles that don't get hot, it's strong enough to stand on its own in the sink even when I dump a potful of pasta & water into it (I've had other collapsible colanders tip or cave in under the weight), and of course it's nice to collapse it and slide it into a drawer.

My only complaint is that the little feet on the bottom are not quite high enough to keep the bottom of the colander up off the sink floor. This creates two problems: 1) with the colander standing in the sink on its own, the bottom holes are rendered useless and water tends to puddle in the bottom until I manually lift the colander; 2) Any germs lurking in my sink could now be touching the food inside the colander. Ew.

I had this saved in my cart for a couple of weeks before I finally decided to get it. I'm glad I did. It's by far the best colander ever. It's very solid and sturdy when in use. And it actually fits in my cabinet without having to jamb the door closed. I love it!!

I purchased this to use in our cabin which has a very compact kitchen. It definitely solves the space problem and does a good job of straining.

Great colander, does exactly what it is supposed to - strain things and steam things and save space by being collapsible. The handles are a heavy duty metal with plastic grips, so there is no fear in the colander tipping from side to side when holding a heavy amount of pasta inside of it. I also like that the holes are small, so there is less chance pasta is going to escape out of the bottom. I always hated when I would drain my pasta in my last colander while it was sitting in the sink because pasta would sneak through the bottom holes and touch the sink. Ick! It collapses nicely, I always have to mess with it for a second to get it to collapse correctly, though. No big deal. I have liked every Oxo product I have ever bought, and this is no exception!

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT!, December 28, 2009

I am so glad that I bought this. It saves me from scrubbing the stuck on pasta from the bottom of the pans.

It is great for all sizes of pasta, except lasagna. I also bought the smaller one with the long handle - which is perfect for small things like boxes of mac & cheese.

I have used many different colanders and this is by far the best one ever. The collapsable feature is great for easy storing in a small space. It cleans easily and does a great job. Highly recommend this item for any pasta cooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 2nd silicone revolution, June 10, 2009
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Silicone Collapsible Colander, Red (Kitchen)
Really when you stop and think about it this is really the 2nd revolution for silicone, the first obviously had nothing to do with men or the kitchen. I am glad to say that this 2nd silicone revolution is much healthier and much better for your kitchen. If you have no idea what I am talking about simply stroll down the kitchen section at any large retailer these days and you will immediately see what I am talking about. Silicone has taken the kitchen by storm and that is a very good thing. Collapsible colanders, cookie sheets, baking mats, muffin sheets, Bread Pans and even a lot of the kitchen utensils like spatulas, pancake flippers, cookie spatulas, regular flippers, etc. are getting in on the fun.

The first thing my wife said when she saw a lot of these flexible silicone baking products is "Wont they melt?". The answer is no, not as long as you keep them from touching anything over 500-600 degrees and the vast majority of stuff you cook in the kitchen stays well below that temperature. So whats so great about silicone? First its non stick all the time which means no having to use butter or Pam if you dont want to and 2nd is it makes cleaning the products much much easier. Of course one of the best perks for silicone is that its flexible thus you can collapse, fold or roll up a lot of these products thus they take up a lot less space in your cupboards. Last but not least they just look and feel cool.

As for how they perform, well I have tested quite a large assortment of these products including this colander and I have been extremely impressed. Lets face it Kitchen gadgets must serve a practical purpose otherwise they will wind up staying in the cupboard or drawer. Well I don't think anyone will try and argue against the merits and importance of a colander but as most people know the one thing that can be improved upon with this particular item is the space it takes up in your cupboard and that is where this colander destroys all others. Simply give it a little downward force and it pops out. Push it down on the counter and it collapses into less than a half an inch thick. Its nothing short of ingenious and being one that doesn't have a whole lot of storage space, well lets just say its worth every last penny and I absolutely love it.

The 2nd silicone revolution is here and my kitchen is seeing some legitimate improvements because of it. I cant wait to see what they come up with next with this amazing material.

5 Stars all the way!!
