Product Description

Color: Black

Resistant to flame, stain and steam, this silicone oven mitt in black from OXO Good Grips can withstand heat up to 600 degrees F and will keep your hand cool and comfortable thanks to the interior fabric. The thick, multi-layer fabric liner brings additional thermal insulation, yet lets your hand breathe to prevent sweating. The mitt's unique silicone rib design improves flexibility and dexterity, and provides a secure grip even on slippery surfaces. Measuring 13 inches in length, the mitt is long enough to protect the wrist and forearm and fits either your right or left hand. It's also easy to store via the embedded magnet--allowing you to hang the mitt on still surfaces--or via the included hook. To clean, just wipe with a damp sponge, or wash and dry in the laundry machine.

It grips well, and is totally heat proof!

Too small for my big hands. flexes at an angle, thumb can't move properly (think lobster claws).

It also helps drawer clutter by attaching by its magnet to the fridge.

This is a hard review. The primary PLUS I suppose is that this item is WONDERFUL for STOPPING HEAT ... and I assume that is the primary reason you buy this.. it is essentially impervious to any heat that you'd normally encounter.. also its nicely lined with a soft and comfortable material, and reaches well up your arm to protect that as well.. how many times have you burned your wrist on the rack or oven side while reaching for a hot item? However it does have it's problems!!

1. The most critical thing is the poor "flex pattern" which makes picking up items and gripping them very awkward. In the least case, I'd order TWO of these if you feel this is the glove you want.. this is so you can use both hands to grip anything you want to pick up.. this is the only way you'll really get much of a grip and be confident that you can move hot items safely to where you're going.

2. This fits poorly. I have largish hands I guess but many men especially will have even larger hands.. the fingers are more than adequate.. they in fact are too long.. 1.5" longer than my fingers.. but it also is very tight around my knuckles (where the fingers join your hand) and even tighter if you try to "grip" something. Though this makes it slightly uncomfortable, the main reason I mention it is that I worry that this MAY eventually pull the seam out..

3. Of lesser issue, but still to be considered is that the material, though tough and rubbery, CAN BE TORN on any jab by a sharp or pointed surface.. and of course once this is done, the glove is pretty much not going to serve it's purpose anymore.

I've looked at other gloves and most have similar or worse problems. I guess we're still just up in the air until someone comes up with the truly functional item.

I bought this for my petite mother-in-law and it was a disaster. I think she could have fit half her body in there, in addition to her hands. Even I had trouble with it, and I have very long fingers and usually have no problem fitting into oven mitts and gloves. There was a full 2 inches of empty space when I put it on, so I couldn't get a good grip and I sent mine back. I gave this 2 stars instead of just 1 because the quality was lovely.

The flex point on these gloves is terrible. When you try to bend your index fingers to grip a handle, the top portion doesn't fold over completely. I found it impossible to get a really strong grip. If they had individual stitched channels for your fingers, it could have been a better product.

Just imagine the way a crab/lobster claw works. That is about the limit to the dexterity you will have gripping pot handles. A better solution for flexibility is to buy a pair of "Ove Gloves".

I have always liked OXO products. This was my first bad experience with them.

Better protection than a cloth oven mitt by far. The silicone grips are on both sides so the mitt can be worn lefty or righty.

I have to admit I was almost scared off by the reviewer who felt the oven mitt was too awkward to use properly. I understand the difficulty that person might have had grasping a hot handle, for example. However, I have found that the mitt's merits easily outweigh any problem I have achieving a perfect grasp. I bought this and the round pot holder in the same cool color (lime) and material. Together they are the perfect pot handling duo. First of all - the magnet keeps them solidly on the fridge, easily within reach of my stove and oven. The fabric can handle extremely hot items with no trouble, and although I do have to occasionally adjust the oven mitt because the fabric doesn't bend very easily, I can manage to pick up anything from the stove or oven. Since I'm a woman with very small and arthritic hands, I think most people should be able to use this mitt with relative ease. I am very pleased I gave it a try!

Got two of these, and they are perfect. Some other reviewers seemed to have trouble with them. Not me. I've got a pretty average hand size, and they fit me perfectly. Like anything one-size-fits-most, some people will think they're too big, some too small (if you're concerned, find a pair at a store and try them on first). They fit me perfectly, with just enough room to wiggle my fingers about, and maybe a half-inch clearance at the top. The grip lines, rather than being a hindrance, as some reviewers suggested, work exactly as intended, and I have no problem gripping anything from skillet handles to baking sheets. They keep heat out beautifully. I've pulled cast iron skillets out of a 500 degree oven with no problem. The magnet is strong, and works exactly as intended. They hang from the fridge, and stay put. A little pricey, perhaps, but well worth it. Best. Oven. Mitt. Ever.

This oven mitt definitely protects my hand from heat but the silicon is very inflexible so it is difficult to grip the hot dishes in the oven. I still use it but it didn't replace my old pot holders like I hoped it would. I LOVE the magnet (the glove is on the front of my oven right now) but if it were a little stronger it would not fall on the floor when I open the oven door.
