5.0 out of 5 stars This is the scoop to buy!
This scoop works great. I first tried the pointed ice cream scoop and couldn't use it. I have problems with my wrists. I have used other Oxo tools and love them, so I tried again with this scoop. This scoop works great. I first tried the pointed ice cream scoop and couldn't use it. I have problems with my wrists. I have used other Oxo tools and love them, so I tried again with this scoop. It works so well it seems to be designed with me in mind. It is easy to dip out even the hardest ice cream now and the bail pops the ice cream out of the scoop --clean as a whistle. You can wash it in the dishwasher too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not tough enough..., February 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Trigger Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
The handle is not very sturdy for leveraging hard ice cream. The metal shaft only extends for two-thirds of the length of the handle, leaving an empty rubber sheath for the final third. Overall, not a terrible scoop, but I expected a better handle out of a product that is called "Good Grips".

This scoop started off fine, but the spring broke rather quickly. Still used it for awhile, but was disappointed overall.

1.0 out of 5 stars cannot believe how flimsy this is, September 26, 2009
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Trigger Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
The metal scraper loop that expels the ice cream is unbelievably flimsy and very tenuously attached on both ends. Although it worked well as a muffin disher, it deformed and popped out the first time I tried to scoop ice cream from a batch I made that was frozen just a bit over soft serve (I would never use ANY sweeper scoop - even well-made ones like the Norpro 3-Tablespoon Stainless Steel Scoop - to dish ice cream any harder than that). Waste of money. Look elsewhere.

And for dishing ice cream only, of any degree of hardness, try the Zeroll Original 3-Ounce Aluminum Ice Cream Scoop.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a piece of JUNK!, June 19, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Trigger Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
I have always trusted OXO products, but this time I was woefully mislead. The internal ejector blade broke with the very first scoop of ice cream. Bad, Bad product. Don't waste your money on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trigger of very poor quality, April 5, 2009
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Trigger Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
I decided to pay a little extra for this ice cream scoop due to the mechanical trigger. Unfortunately, the metal strip that the trigger controls came loose on my *FIRST* use. I thought perhaps I was unlucky or had just gotten a lemon. However, I later found that several friends had purchased the exact same model (at Target) and theirs broke as well after very few uses. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I expected more from an OXO product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Comes apart easily, poor design/materials, January 11, 2009

This scoop falls apart while in use. The piece that slides inside the scoop flexes and comes out of its slot in the axle then the whole thing falls into four pieces. This would be a good scoop if that sliding piece were stiffer or if it extended into the slot more deeply or if it were firmly attached to the axle instead of being held in place by its weak spring force. This is something that product testing should have discovered before it was put on the market.

This thing literally fell apart after only a few uses. It was cheaper than other similar ones, which is why I tried it, but I wouldn't buy it again. Even at the price, it wasn't worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Grips Ice Cream Scooper, March 19, 2006

This scoop was my wife's idea. I personally like the blade type of scoop like they use in some ice cream shops. But like most, if not all, of OXO's offerings this one is very well made and works flawlessly. The grip of course is the reason for buying this particular brand as the scoop and the blade bail work about like you would expect. The trigger is covered with the same "grippy" rubber with a wider finger pad than most. Very easy to use and priced in line with the value and quality you get. You won't go wrong with this item (unless you prefer the professional feel of a paddle or blade).
