Product Description

Amazon.com

Despite all the bright-colored, high-tech silicone kitchen utensils out these days, there’s nothing quite like the good old-fashioned feel of wood for cooking needs. Crafted from solid beech wood, this strong 12-1/2-inch spoon is ideal for stirring thick stews or mixing oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough. A natural oil finish protects the wooden spoon without contaminating food, and the give of wood means the spoon is safe for nonstick cookware.

True to OXO’s creed of designing products that are easy to use for the widest range of users, the handle, which is flat on top and sensuously curved underneath, comfortably fits the hand. A hole in the end allows the spoon to hang where it’s most needed. Set in a crock, the spoon forms a handsome bouquet with OXO’s other wooden utensils, such as a larger spoon, slotted spoons, a pancake turner, and a spaghetti server. Wooden utensils are best washed by hand. OXO backs all its products with a satisfaction warranty, and will replace or refund any returned item. --Ann Bieri

Apply once a month or so to keep the wood protected and to prevent it from drying out, and your spoon will last a long time.

It was cracked when I got it, and broke the first time I used it.

I love using OXO's lineup of wooden spoons. They are solid and comfortable to hold, and won't scratch metal or nonstick cookware interiors. They are so very superior to those generic, cheap wooden spoons with thin handles that are uncomfortable to hold. This spoon is perfect for stirring sauces or sauteeing. With the exception of my knives, among my cooking tools, I use this spoon the most, along with the larger version.

Regarding the criticism of the spoon being made from two pieces of wood glued together - I think OXO has changed its manufacturing process for the better, because the spoon that I own is definitely made from one piece of wood. I would recommend this product to all home cooks and also suggest buying the large and small slotted spoons as well.

Tip: to protect your spoon from cracking, apply some food-grade mineral oil and rub it in all over. Apply once a month or so to keep the wood protected and to prevent it from drying out, and your spoon will last a long time.

The description says 12 inches. These are actually 8 inches. They are about the length of a standard soup spoon that comes with a set of tableware. They are nicely made, but they are no where near large enough for my intended use. Too cheap to bother returning, but not useful for me.

I used this spoon one time, to stir a lasagna meat sauce I was making. Washed it. Dried it. Put it on the counter. Came out this morning to find that the spoon part had split, from the tip to about halfway into the spoon.

The three cheap wooden spoons I bought for $3.00 (for all three, combined) at the grocery store are still working just fine. While this spoon looks great, I absolutely would never buy it again.

I love the size of this spoon. When I got it, it appeared really dried out. I have only had it two months. Recently, the wood split in two places. Bummer!
If you buy this spoon or any of the OXO wooden utensils, I would suggest conditioning them really well before and after usage. I use John Taylor Butcher Block Conditioner, it works great.

The product looked great, but to my surprise, a crack has appeared in it just after a single use! looks like two pieces of wood have been joined to make it, and they got detached at the tip just after a single use. So unless you are willing to waste 5 dollars for a single use, do NOT buy this item!

I love these small spoons. They are 8 inches from tip to tip. The handle is 5.5 inches and the spoon part is only 2.5 inches. It was on a whim that I purchased 2 of them but find that I turn to them all the time. Unless I'm using a very large and deep pot these little spoons work so very well. They don't take up so much room in the pan while stirring and don't splash as much as the larger spoons. Of course, I'm always tasting as I cook, sorry but it's not a restaurant, so I taste from these little spoons and they are so easy to work with! Love love love them! I've gone back and bought 3 more of them. I also love the "corner spoon" because it scrapes the corner of the pan while you stir, for those things that stick to the side of the pan or pot.

I have had several of the wood OXO kitchen tools for the last several months - no complaints here. I wash mine inthe dishwasher - no splitting. I love the thicker handles - more to hold onto.

The spoon split up the middle. I only hand washed it, but it still split. I'm not happy.
