5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I bought this knife to replace a 20-year-old Henckels Gourmet series 5" serrated utility knife. Interestingly, I like this knife a lot more than the Henckels, and the Henckels had been my go-to knife for darned near all my cutting needs. The Oxo has a better balance and feel in the hand, and it is exceedingly sharp. It's half the price of the Henckels knife, and I feel...

3.0 out of 5 stars OXO tomator knife
So-so. Fine for tomatoes and other soft things. The large handle might be helpful for folks with arthritis, etc. The same knife is available at ACE hardware for under $9. Buy it there, instead.

It's half the price of the Henckels knife, and I feel that the quality is just as good, or better. I also own an Oxo 6" chef's knife that I like better than my Henckels chef knife.

The Oxo Good Grips Professional 5-Inch Serrated Utility Knife is a product with excellent value.

Update, August 2010: This knife has become somewhat dull in the two years that I have been using it. The problem is that serrated knives are difficult (if not impossible) to sharpen at home. My Oxo knives that have standard non-serrated blades can easily be sharpened, and therefore have stood up to hard usage. This one has not. Still a good knife for the price, but not five-star quality.

I purchased this knife for my aunt who has arthritis and has trouble gripping objects. She found the knife to be very comfortable to hold, well balanced and sharp enough to cut a ripe tomato. I have always been impressed with OXO kitchen tools and this knife is no exceptionOXO Good Grips Professional 5-Inch Serrated Utility Knife.

Not as good as the better brands, but doesn't have their price-tag either. For everyday slicing, esp. bagels, bread, cake, etc. this is a very comfortable and useful knife. Although I have high-end knives for real prep work, this probably gets more use as an all-around, easy to grab knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking and Working Sharp!, December 20, 2008

This is a great all purpose knife. It's unbelievably sharp. I was using a large serated knife to cut a roast into stew pieces and it was tough going. In desperation, I picked up this handy little OXO and to my utter amazement, this arduous task became as easy as cutting through butter with a butter knife! Amazing. You can't go wrong with this knife. Worth every penny.

This is the knife I wish I had bought years ago. There's no need to take out a larger knife for small vegetables or rolls. The grip is comfortable and the blade is sharp. I was tired of stabbing the outside of a tomato in order to start slicing it. This knife glides through a tomato easily and cuts sandwiches with no pulling or tearing. I'm planning on adding a second one to my next Amazon order.

Although I own some fancy knives, this is the only knife I normally use.

It cuts through tomato skins, bread, and onions with ease.

Its serrated edge is still sharp after two years.

And as for the special "Good Grip" handle? Again: it is worth it. The rubber gives you enough of a grip to handle jobs a normal serrated knife just couldn't easily (things like tomato skins, bread, and onions, in fact).

So if you're looking for a simple and versatile "go to" knife, here you go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best knife I own, May 1, 2011
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Professional 5-Inch Serrated Utility Knife (Kitchen)
I actually take mine out of the dishwasher and wash it by hand when I need it! Best knife in my kitchen drawer!!!! I came to Amazon looking for this knife since I could no longer find any in my local stores. I noticed one reviewer mentioned they were available at Ace Hardware for under $9.00 but I couldn't find the knife listed on their web site. Decided to go directly to the Oxo web site and found this knife for $6.99. I ordered 3 (just in case they are ever discontinued) and shipping was just over $7.00 with no sales tax to N.Y. Don't know about other states. If you love this knife as much as I do you might want to go directly to the manufacturer.

5.0 out of 5 stars great everyday knife, December 13, 2010

This knife covers 100% of my sharp-knife kitchen needs which are almost exclusively fruits and vegetables. It also works well for slicing bread. It's sharp, has a comfortable grip, and the blade is stiff enough for the occasional butternut squash. My first one dulled after approximately 1 year and I didn't hesitate to get another. Considering the low cost, I don't mind replacing it every so often. It's sharpness and serration deliver better cutting than I was able to get by doing my own sharpening. I am very satisfied with this product.

I was very excited to find this short serrated knife. Usually they are long bread knives or have wimpy, wobbly knife blades. This works great for cutting meat, slicing muffins and bagels and cutting a pile of vegetables. I love the sturdy blade and the soft grip handle is wonderful. Nice job on delivery Amazon!

Cuts tomatoes and veggies well. Handle is nice but blade seems kinda flimsy. Go buy a cheap-o knife at the store and save some dough
