Product Description

OXO Steel user-friendly Mandoline is the perfect tool for creating culinary sensations quickly and easily. Straight, serrated and two different wavy blades can be set to any slice thickness and are ideal for making cucumber salad, potato chips, onion rings, waffle fries and citrus slices. Try making French fries, carrot sticks and garnishes with the thin and thick julienne blades. Just turn the soft dial to select your slice thickness or julienne setting. All blades are safely covered when not in use. A soft handle set lower than the body ensures a comfortable grip and keeps your hand out of the way, and wide, non-slip feet keep the Mandoline stable and secure on the countertop. The large food holder holds food securely, protects fingers and has a soft grip for added comfort. Storage is a snap: all blades store on board or in a compact box and the legs fold compactly. All blades are easily removable for cleaning.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment May 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this OXO Steel Chef's Mandoline Slicer after reading the reviews - and ignoring the negative ones. OXO makes great products so I thought the negative reviews must be incorrect BUT they are right on. First I noticed the main slicing blade had 6 or 7 nicks on it after slicing potatoes and yams just four times. OXO does not sell a replacement for this important blade. Next I tried the julienne blades. What a joke. I managed to julienne a turnip but the yellow pepper was beyond its capabilities. In addition, while I was trying to do this, the food holder fell apart in my hand. My husband reassembled it and set it on the counter where it fell apart again just sitting there. While this mandoline looks nice it is cheaply made, especially the important parts - the cutting blades. I returned this product, and I hope I get a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth Slicer November 24, 2010
By robyn
I just started using my new Chef's Steel OXO Mandoline Slicer for Thanksgiving preparation. First of all the packaging of this product is not only beautiful but also a useful box to store the slicer in. The pictures and key inside of the food sliced in varieties of ways is easy to follow and gives the cook great ideas. My kids are now eating radishes that were sliced using the crinkle slicer. I think all slicers take some practice to use, but I was able to fit 2 large radishes side by side on the food holder and slice away. The holder moves smoothly over the slicer and you can cut quite quickly. And I wanted to try cutting a potato in a waffle cut and I did it!! After one potato I really had the method down and couldn't wait for some salt and vinegar. I am excited to see what else I can make on my Mandoline. Great for soups and it really makes the food look pretty with a pleasing texture on the tongue. I found the slicers to be very sharp without too much elbow grease needed. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Happy slicing!

1.0 out of 5 stars Company slipped on this one April 13, 2012
I am scared to death of mandolins. My fingers go into a ball when I even see one on the shelf. With the Kim Chee and sauerkraut I've been making I needed to break out of my shell and buy one. This on the surface was a wonderful design. I was so excited and felt safe just having it in my kitchen. All sharp blades pull in and out of the base so what is left is the base and some free standing blades. So much easier. Wish the product was as good as the design. The blade is non sharping so it won't last and the carrots I put through the julianne slicer wouldn't pass through. Too dull? I got half the carrot through the machine and then the fingers of the guard just sliced grooves through the carrot leaving me without the ability to make the pass unless I used my hand. Not why I bought this machine. I'm on the hunt for a SHARP one that makes me feel safe. I returned it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice mandolin, but makes very thin waffle fries February 27, 2011
I bought this mandoline for slicing tomatoes, onions, etc, but mostly I wanted to make homemade waffle fries in my deep fryer. This mandoline will indeed do a waffle cut, but it produces a thin waffle fry NOT the thick waffle fries that you can buy frozen or that are served in restaurants. I tried setting the mandoline on a thicker setting, but then it does not produce the holes in between the cross-cuts on the potato (just a large ripple cut on each side).

I saw some other reviews that complained that the blades were not sharp - I did not find this to be the case. My mandoline slices tomatoes, onions, and potatoes just fine. I have not tried carrots yet. I found that the safety food holder is cumbersome to use and that I prefer to hold the food with my hand - I bought a set of BladeX5 57100 Classic Cut & Slash Resistant Gloves Cut Resistant Level 5 EN388 CE Approved, grey, Medium cut-resistant gloves here on Amazon based on other reviews that mentioned how great they were in preventing finger damage while slicing. (The only link I could get it to accept was for the medium gloves, but I bought the large size.) They definitely saved me several times already while slicing!!! Definitely a must have!

If you are looking for a good all-purpose mandoline that does large and small ripple cuts and is capable of waffle cuts, I would recommend this product. If you are buying it just so you can make waffle fries, then you may be disappointed in the thin waffle fries it produces. I bought mine at a Bed, Bath, and Beyond store with a 20% coupon, so I ended up paying $80 for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Slicer December 5, 2010
This is a great slicer. I received this mandoline as a gift and I used it to thinly slice potatoes. I was able to slice them so paper thin they became transparent. It is very easy to use and clean. Another great product from OXO!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love my mandoline January 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Wish I would have purchased a mandoline sooner, and I'm glad I got this Oxo mandoine! Short of spending several hundred dollars for a professional mandoline, this one is about the best you can do. It's slicing capability is fully adjustable, and using the softer food side of the blade makes slicing onions paper thin so easy. The hard food side of the blade easily slices through five pounds of potatoes or two pies-worth of apples in less time than it takes to set up the food processor. No more opening and disassembling the food processor when the bowl is full! A cut-resistant glove Microplane 34007 Cut-Resistant Glove is important for ease of use, since it lets you just keep the process moving (the food holder is too much trouble and not as controllable). What a great tool!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this puppy! But buy a knife-proof glove with it!
Easy to clean and store, reliable thickness. Do worry that I should order replacement blades for the future in case they won't be available in 3-5 years when I need it.
