I'm afraid I've developed an unhealthy relationship with this garlic press. It's so shiny, and has such lovely heft. Most important, it presses garlic with an incredibly smooth and powerful action. I've started to add way more garlic than normal, just so I can keep using the press.

1.0 out of 5 stars soapy water with your garlic
I thought this garlic press was awesome for about two weeks. One day as I was pressing garlic into a bowl of ingredients, soapy water began leaking out. The hollow handles, although comfortable, allow for water to collect. To use this press I've had to strip the exterior handles off. While the press still works, it is no longer comfortable to use.

I'm afraid I've developed an unhealthy relationship with this garlic press. It's so shiny, and has such lovely heft. Most important, it presses garlic with an incredibly smooth and powerful action. I've started to add way more garlic than normal, just so I can keep using the press.

Post-press, you simply flip over the handle and the nonstick pokey side pushes the garlic remains cleanly out. I usually gather those remains and smush them all back in for a final press. I just can't get enough...

When I'm finished, I just lay it flat in the top section of the dishwasher. It comes out perfectly clean and shiny each time.

You'll love it. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars They just don't make 'em like they used to... HOW NICE!, December 14, 2005
This review is from: OXO SteeL Garlic Press, Stainless (Kitchen)
This is the best garlic press I have ever seen for any price, ever. Fresh garlic makes such a huge difference. I've gone through about five different presses, and all of them had something I didn't like... except this one!

The cleaner is attached so that it won't get lost. This thing is built like a tank.

I never peel my garlic first. I just toss it in, give it a squeeze, then rotate the handle around to pull out the peel. Rinse it right when you use it, and you'll never have to run it through the dishwasher.

I bought this about a year ago when I lost my previous press. My mother-in-law (who has carpel tunnel syndrome) used it, fell in love with it, and bought her own. Now, I'm buying one as a gift for a friend that thinks cooking with fresh garlic is a pain - he's in for a surprise.

This is hands down the easiest to clean, toughest, and best built garlic press on the market. Way to go OXO!

I LOVE this garlic press! I bought it based on the reviews here and I am so glad that I did. I had previously purchased a Kuhn Rikon and it was near impossible for me to smash a clove of garlic; I had to ask my boyfriend to help. I also had a no name one that wasn't bad, but I thought maybe I was missing something when people raved about having a garlic press. I have a hard time mincing garlic with a knife, so I thought I would give this one a try even though the Zyliss had higher ratings on America's Test Kitchen. It really is very sturdy and since it has such a wide opening you can smash 2-3 cloves at a time. You barely have to exert much pressure and it cleans up pretty easily. I will probably have this one the rest of my life because it is so well made. I am very thrilled with this purchase!

The plastic and metal handles slip off almost every time I use it, and water gets caught in the space under these coverings on cleaning, resulting in dish water dripping out on next use.

I've broken so many garlic presses, I figured out exactly what was missing... everything this one has. First, you could roll over it with a truck. Second, the grating is *real* thick so it won't ever break (this is where all my old ones broke, the garlic actually snapped the press grids out!). What a champion, I'll be passing this one down to the grandkids in 50 years, no doubt.

3.0 out of 5 stars Really heavy, lots of remnants, and impossible to clean., July 6, 2007

At first, when I opened this guy, was impressed with the weight of it alone. After I used it, though, there is an awful lot of garlic that doesn't get pushed through the grid, and then using the built-in mechanism to clear it doesn't really do much either. Through the dishwasher after some coaxing, and the thing still didn't come completely clean.

A garlic press seems like it should be painless. I don't want to think about a garlic press for longer than I am actually using it!

I have owned this garlic press for about one year and the outside coating is flaking off so much that I cannot use it anymore. I am going to spend a little extra this time and get the Kuhn Rikon stainless steel press. Learned lesson once again, you get what you pay for.

This is the best garlic press I've owned by far. It's sturdy when challenged with multiple cloves, the non-slip grips on the handles are comfortable, and it's strong enough to actually press the majority of the garlic through the little mincing holes. One of the best tools in my drawer.

Buy this one! I've had this garlic press for several years after attempting to use a plastic one. I'd gotten so frustrated with the plastic one that I had started buying the chopped garlic they sell at the supermarket.

This one is nice and heavy and cuts through the garlic beautifully. Since it takes little effort to chop the garlic with this little darling, it's great on the hands... and of course, OXO has a reputation for making ergonomically sound kitchen devices.

It's very sturdy so plan on getting years of use out of it... it also withstands the dishwasher quite well.
