5.0 out of 5 stars Calagel is a diamond in the ruff! A life saver!, January 13, 2011
This review is from: Oak-N-Ivy CalaGel Medicated Anti-Itch Gel 6 Fluid Ounces (Health and Beauty)
Calagel is a tremendously helpful product that has kept me afloat throughout my lifelong battle with severe atopic dermatitis and numerous bouts of itchy hives and/or oozing, cracked and infected dry skin. Calagel is my number one and immediate treatment for relief, and I am so grateful that I have come across this product. It alleviates the intense, hot and itchy patches on my skin, which would often make their way to my face and neck swelling my skin and essentially, turn me into an itching lunatic.

Calagel contains the same active ingredient as found in Benadryl (Diphenylhydramine) along with menthol (analgesic; itch reliever), and other ingredients necessary to reduce the inflammation and prevent infection. It is not messy at all and a small amount of it covers a large portion of effected skin. It has a fairly weak odor.

Calagel has been a wonderful amenity to have with me, whenever I may be at or out of home in case my skin contact and food allergies present a reaction. In no way, should this product be used as a primary treatment for severe anaphylaxis, which should be treated by an emergency medical professional, but Calagel is your answer to everything else. It's other uses for poison ivy and sumac irritations only act as icing to the cake.

In other words, I recommend Calagel to anyone with itching, hives (uticaria), or skin contact allergy issues. This product will be an excellent resource, whether on vacation or at home, to counter those itchy and irritating reactions!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for any flaming skin rash that needs to dry out and heal, June 24, 2011

I went to a business conference, where the conference rooms were packed and we were all sweating. Even my ankles were sweating in my socks. When I got home I had a bumpy red rash that was spongey and tender to the touch. I tried everything, but it only kept growing on my foot and up to the top of where my ankle sock ended. Then I saw this cool gel and decided to try it. I applied it three times a day and within three days my rash had dried out and my skin was on the mend. Remember to gentle wash with soap and water and pat dry the area you want to use the gel on. The great news it since it is clear and cool, you only have to massage it in and let it dry. I wore shorts and went barefoot around the house until I healed up. But I am keeping this as my go to for ANY rash or breakout from now on. This product is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Remedy for Poison Ivy, December 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oak-N-Ivy CalaGel Medicated Anti-Itch Gel 6 Fluid Ounces (Health and Beauty)
I got Poison Ivy several years ago, and it was bad. I tried all kinds of remedies, but nothing worked, not even Cortisone. Then I discovered CalaGel, and my Poison Ivy cleared up in a week. The funny thing is I'd tried the two active ingredients, Calamine Lotion and Benadryl, separately, but they didn't help.

I remain highly sensitized to it since that initial exposure. The dogs seem to find it wherever it is, and they give it to me over and over. But at the first sign of discomfort, I wash the affected site with the Tecnu (included in this package) and then apply a bit of the CalaGel. If I haven't caught it fast enough, I sometimes need a second dose of CalaGel several hours later. But that's it. This stuff is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best mosquito bite antidote. Ever., October 11, 2011

I am allergic to mosquito bites, such that getting one or two is very irritating, 3 or 4 makes me itchy and my eyes water, and more than that can start a severe allergic reaction. The bites also take over a week to heal.

If I apply Calagel within about 40 minutes of getting a bite, the pain from the bite subsides within an hour or so, the bite heals within a few days, and the allergic reaction is so significantly reduced as to be almost unnoticeable.

I have tried antihistamine creams, and they are helpful, but I have never encountered any other product that comes close to the effectiveness of Calagel. I always offer it to friends when they get bug bites, and the effectiveness varies: I believe it has to do with how much a person's reaction to a bite is allergic vs. a reaction to a toxin.

I have never had a reaction to poison ivy. Whether that is because I have been adequately careful (seems unlikely) or, I am simply not allergic to it, I don't know. In either case, I can't personally attest to Calagel's performance in that regard, but I would be surprised if it didn't shine there, as well.

I highly recommend Calagel; I would suggest that everyone should buy it at least once to experiment on any topical allergies. Just don't apply it to broken skin, because it can cause a stinging sensation. My only complaint is that is always comes with a bottle of Tecnu, the product that removes poison ivy oils from skin and clothes. As I mentioned, I don't have a need for this, so I have a closet full of unused Tecnu bottles.

My hubbie is very sensitive to poisen ivy. I used to be able to purchase this product at Wal-Mart, but for some reason, not any more. This is excellent for mosquitoe bites and bites in general. The active ingredients are superior to most products of its kind. The transaction went smoothly. I bought some for son, neighbor and his son as they all work outdoors.
