5.0 out of 5 stars Tonex is just on another level!!!!!!
When I found out that Tonex was coming out with another album, I was instantely hooked on the idea that I was going to cop the CD. First of all, it was said that Tonex was retiring and that really saddened me because I absolutely love this mans ministry. All of his albums are totally off the chain and I had to get his new one. I must say, I cant even tell you how...

1.0 out of 5 stars Rap or Gospel?
This was a horrible cd compared to the "out the box" cd. there isn't any gospel in the whole thing. at times i felt like i was listening to snoop dogg or 50 cent. Just really not as expected.

When I found out that Tonex was coming out with another album, I was instantely hooked on the idea that I was going to cop the CD. First of all, it was said that Tonex was retiring and that really saddened me because I absolutely love this mans ministry. All of his albums are totally off the chain and I had to get his new one. I must say, I cant even tell you how wonderful this album is! If you liked ANY of his other albums, you WILL fall in love with this album like I have. I can't begin to name favorites because both the cds are really really good!! Now I will tell you if you dont like contemporary gospel or Hip-hop and R&P Gospel, this cd is definetely not for you!! If you into any kind of contemporary gospel, this album will bless you in the same way it has blessed me!! Please don't burn because Tonex is no longer on an international label, he put this album out on his record company independently, so please buy and don't burn!! We woudn't want the same to be done to US inspiring musicians, so buy this album and you will be glad you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars His greatest work yet..., March 23, 2007
By
This review is from: Oak Park: 921'06 (Audio CD)
To: those that are open-minded and real, YOU WILL LOVE this cd! It is unheard of that in "gospel" music you get a raw message. There are very few people that speak on issues from there heart exactly the way they feel it. Yes, there are songs on this cd that don't talk directly about God, but they do relate to life, which is impossible without God.
The songs that I like best are:
1. "When My Words Are Few": In this song Tonex is just talking about being in a backslidden state and because of that he doesn't necessarily act as he normally would. He's not glorifying that, but he says (in the song) "I'm not mad at you, things I'm going through, make me act a fool, please don't think I'm cruel really normally I'm cool, when my words are few..."
2. "Feelings": This is another song in which Tonex allows himself to transparently speak on the issues that he struggles with. This is the first verse and I think it speaks for the rest of the song: "A being forever learning, a body forever yearning, a flip of the coin reads tales or heads, but the odds are fifty-fifty, half of me is right one side is wrong, and so I demonstrate this song, I tried, but I could not fight it I tried but I can't deny it, habitual rituals unsweet, well initially they do taste good but the end is so bitter it takes my soul, but I could never let the saints know I'm out of control."
3. "Stay": A TRUE worship song. It's talking about spending time with God... communing with Him, talking with Him, honoring His presence. It talks about how we put Jesus on hold or to the side to do other things that we feel are important; all the while, God is simply saying "STAY with me."
Those are just my favorites, but honestly speaking if you like part of the cd you'll most likely like all of the cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Christian expessing issues through music..., August 31, 2007
This review is from: Oak Park: 921'06 (Audio CD)
Too bad more Christians don't have the nerve to tell the truth about their issues and put their business on front street. On the other hand I'll definitely feel Tonex is pushing the boundaries of Christian maturity, decency and order. This isn't something I feel children should be listening to; maybe it should have included a Parental Advisory label. I'm mean, there are blatant references to pornography, drug use, and sexual innuendo throughout the disc. The music is slammin though; Soul/R&B through and through. Solid vocals too. Tonex channels Stokely(Mint Condition), Prince, and even R. Kelly at times. Maybe that explains the sexual explicity of some the lyrics(lol). Still, isn't this pushing it for someone who is supposed to be a Christian preacher and pastor? Maybe he's thinking of doing the Sam Cooke/Johnnie Taylor/Al Green thing and use this project as a springboard into the secular. You be the judge. I'm just enjoying the music, because the music is hot. In the meantime let's all pray for the brother while he's going through whatever is attacking his mind. Whew, this CD is something else...

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably his best next to his Debut!!, October 24, 2007
This review is from: Oak Park: 921'06 (Audio CD)
I sampled Oak Park awhile back, and I was amazed with Tonex's creativity. I knew that once I had the money that I would go buy it. He's always coming up with the most amazing beats and giving a positive message behind them. A lot of people critize Tonex for being a little too real, but I think that's what the world needs right now in order for us people to be Christian. Overall I would say that 90% of this album is pure fire!! So he definitely gets my two thumbs up.

I am a serious Tonex fan. I just got my copy of this CD and evokes such emotions in me. It's like witnessing someone's personal meltdown, honest, raw, and intense. It's like looking at something so painful you want to turn your head away, except you're listening. It's depression set to music, it's reflective. The truth is we've all been there at one time or another and he does a good job of capturing these feelings, as well as the conflicts and afflictions of those attempting to live a Christian lifestyle while engaged in battles of the mind, body, and the spirit. The musicianship of this work is excellent and true to form in terms of what we've grown to expect from Tonex--he keeps it interesting. Anyone with similar struggles will get it, and be ministered to. Definitely not your grandma's gospel, but ageless honesty real enough for this generation.

1.0 out of 5 stars WORSE CD TONEX EVER MADE!!!, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Oak Park: 921'06 (Audio CD)
This cd is so BAD that I don't have an opinion. I thought this was a "Christian" CD, Tonex song about his puppy??? Hello, this should be about Christ. There is a track with him "acting" like he is smoking weed while singing. COME ON TONEX WHAT IS THIS YOU'RE PRODUCING. I KNOW YOU WANT TO BE OUT OF TH BOX BUT GOD DO THINGS IN DECENT AND ORDER.

This CD is the worse Tonex have made. I have all of his cds but I could not encourage someone to purchase this. Sorry Tonex, get back in the sling for God to propel you futher.
