4.0 out of 5 stars Great first album, January 26, 2007

This review is from: Oakley Hall (Audio CD)
I'm so sorry to this now out of print and fetching high collector prices. These guys are now one of THE hottest acts to catch in NYC area. I saw them in S.F in fall of '06 and they melted me through the floor. SO amazing live!
Their Second Guessing album was on many critics BEST OF lists for '06, and the Gymsum Strings album is no slacker either. I've snapped up every thing that I can get my hands by these guys, as I am now a true believer.
Go to [...] site for several free downloads from the Daytrotter Sessions that they did last year and don't miss several videos on the great punkcast.com site. They are convienently called "alt country", but aren't any more country than Neil Young can be called country. One reviewer commented, "imagine if Lou Reed was born in a barn, what the V.U. would have sounded like". They mix up rock, folk, Americana, psych and country into a frothy, heady brew. Lead vocalist Rachel sings like a sweet bar room angel and lead man Pat plays blistering licks on the guitar as well as the farfisa. Great vocals, harmonies, songwriting and playing are all here.
