Product Description

The Oakton 35423-10 EcoTestr pH 2 is a handheld, waterproof, and dustproof pocket meter that measures pH and floats, if dropped in liquid. A portable pocket meter is commonly used to measure the pH of substance in hydroponics, education, water treatment, and swimming pools. This meter has ATC for accurate readings in fluctuating temperatures, and push-button calibration capabilities up to three points for a wide range of results. It features a transparent, protective cap to reduce contamination and protect the sensor. The cap keeps the sensor moist when stored upright, and can be used as a container for sensor-conditioning, or on-site calibration. The meter’s waterproof and dustproof housing has IP67-rating for protection against solid objects or liquids. The testr has a long-lasting sensor with Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) reference junction with polymer gel for long lifespan. The meter has a large, upright, single-line LCD screen for ease of viewing, a hold function which freezes readings for recording, and an auto shut-off to extend the life of the batteries. It has a click-lock battery cover for battery access to replace batteries without tools.

The 35423-10 pocket meter comes with an integral sensor, has ATC from 0 to 50 degrees C (32 to 122 degrees F), and works in an operating temperature of 0 to 50 degrees C (32 to 122 degrees F). It has three-point automatic calibration at three US buffer values of US 4.0, 7.0 or 10.0. pH range is 0.0 to 14.0, resolution 0.1, accuracy + or - 0.1. Its dimensions are 1.25 (l) x 1.5 (w) x 6.5 (h) inches (3.2 x 3.8 x 16.8 cm) and it weighs 3.25 ounces. The testr works with four 1.5-V alkaline batteries (not included) for up to 250 hours of continuous use (Eveready A76 or LR44 replacements).

pH testers measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance and are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists in aquaculture, agriculture, hydroponics, wine-making, and water-testing, and for scientific applications.

What’s in the Box?

  • Meter 35423-10
  • Integral sensor

*Age of the solutions, storing of the solutions, contamination of the solutions can all affect readings.

*Accuracy depends on caliberation standards, type of water or how the meter is stored.

*Are you testing RO water, distilled water, de-ionized water?  Over time these liquids will drain the electrode of IONS and render the meter useless. Water of this type has no IONS so the salt solution within the probe will migrate out of the pH probe into the water. Naturally IONS move from high concentration to low concentration to create equilibrium. You can always use a TDS meter to test the water, you should get a reading around 0.00ppm.

*
How should the Testrs being stored?  In OAKTON storage solution. The storage solution contains the same liquid that is inside of the electrode which helps replenish and create longer life. Electrodes take on the characteristics of the liquids they are measuring over time, that’s why a lot of complaints about meter is stuck on one reading.

I loved this meter until it randomly stopped working 5 months after my purchase. When I contacted Oakton customer service, they told me that their warranty is based off the date of manufacture not the date of purchase. They advised me to purchase another meter.
After I did, I noticed in their packaging it clearly states the warranty is for one year from the date of purchase. I emailed Oakton again in an attempt to allow them to rectify this awkward situation they placed me in as a customer. This was their response:

"The warranty is one year from the date of manufacture. This helps us ensure our distributors are rotating their stock properly and that you are getting a fresh product. Unfortunately Amazon is not an authorized distributor of our products, however we are not able to control others from selling our products on their site. Due to this we only honor the date of manufacture. I would recommend purchasing our products from one of our authorized distributors."

I find this to be rather insulting given that the company clearly sells thousands of units on amazon. I've decided to use HM handheld meters instead. I had an issue with my COM-100 TDS meter and the company promptly and courteously resolved the issue by sending me a brand new meter. No need to deal with a s***ty company when there are companies who value their customers making substitute products.

Amazon did refund my money for my dead oakton. Thanks for picking up the slack!

I've owned 2 other testers and this one is better than the others. Quick reading, auto calibration. HIGHLY SUGGESTED - 7 years into using these type of devices.

Very easy to use, I'm so glad I don't have to calibrate with a screwdriver anymore. This PH meter has the three point calibration with a touch of a button! Gives accurate readings and holds it's calibration for aboout a week.

I was looking for a pH testing method other than strips or chemicals because I needed accurate testing results. I selected the pH2 by Oakton after reading a number of reviews of it and other products. When I got the meter I discovered it came without batteries and there are four specialized dime size batteries required which cost me $15 over the counter from a battery specialty store and obtaining them delayed using the meter for a few days until I could travel to the store. When I started using the meter I noticed that the pH of my koi pond was measured as much higher than the chemical solution I was using. I began an aggressive effort to bring the pH down for it was close to being dangerous for koi. After several days of treatment the pH was not dropping as it should. I tested with the chemical solution and found the pH to be lower than the meter display. I once more conditioned the meter and tested distilled water which tested at a pH of 8.1 and then tested tap water (from a well) and it also tested above a pH of 8. I have a bottle buffer solution at a pH of 7.0 so I did a calibration of the meter using the test solution and the result was nearly 9.0. Along with that the meter now works only intermittently as there is difficulty powering it on. The batteries are very difficult to replace as the battery compartment lid is hard to remove. I contacted Amazon and they are replacing the meter and sending it one day shipping. I hope the replacement works as it should. The ease of use of the meter is excellent and its design allows testing different areas of the pond frequently with no hassle of strips and chemicals. I trust that I just got a lemon, for there are many excellent reviews of this product. I will post an update to this review when I test the new meter.Read more ›

Purchased the device in march got around to using it in may, just an FYI; it doesn't come with batteries. You need 4 1.5v 357 batteries for it. I bought all 4,7,10 solutions for future calibrations and the device didn't work. It read my normal tap water at 10.1, I compared all these findings with my standard drop tester. In the 7.0 solution it did not get below 8.7 out of the 10 times I tried to calibrate. I will order another one, because it looked like to be of solid construction and well made, but it looks like this happen to at least 1 other reviewer so it might be a bad batch amazon got, but we will see.

Waited a few weeks to wtire a review for this product since some the review are stating that product didn't work after a few use. This meter works great, very easy to use (specially to cal. onetouch cal. luv it), best of all it's waterproof. I have a tri-meter before, one slip of the hands and drop it in the water "that was the end of that" also I replace the PH probe on it once (cost $85.00 plus tax in the local hydro store)this meter was under $60.00 do the math. For the people that had problems with their meter. Reading is off by a mile or just stop working after few weeks or month or 2. FYI take care of the meter or it will go bad, any meter will go bad quicker if you don't takecare of it. When not in use make sure the tip is moist and not dry. When the tip gets dry thats when problem start happening for any PH meter. I put some buffer solution (7.0 or 4.0 don't matter)in the cap about half before I put it away. Hope this helps
