5 stars for the Music + 4 stars for the Interviews = 9 stars,
By Kevin M. Donlin "Creator, TheSimpleJobSearch.com" (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oasis - Definitely Maybe: The DVD (DVD)
Like Keith Moon and Pete Townshend from the Who, Liam and Noel from Oasis merit 5 stars for their comedic skills alone. That they also deliver the goods musically on this, their finest album, is worth another 4 stars. My only complaint is that the interviews aren't longer.
Since Amazon won't let me rate this 9 stars, I'll do the next best thing and share some of the DVD secret tracks with you. There may be more, but these are the ones I do know: * DVD Secret Tracks * Rock 'N' Roll Star audio track - press "down" on your DVD remote for an interview about Liam wanting bagpipes on Rock 'N' Roll Star. Yes, bagpipes. Supersonic audio - press "down" for music theory. Cigarettes & Alcohol audio - press "down" for interview with Noel about the song. Slide Away audio - press "down" for interview about the name Definitely Maybe. Married With Children audio - press "down" for the letter from Guigsy on why he was not on the DVD. Sad Song audio - during the black intro, press "down" for audio clips of the legendary "Wibling Rivalry" interview. Live Forever audio - press "down" for interview with Noel about wanting Live Forever as track three on the album. Press "angle" on Live Forever, Shakermaker, Supersonic and Cigarettes & Alcohol for US versions of the videos.

The Greatest Debut Album on DVD,
By
This review is from: Oasis - Definitely Maybe: The DVD (DVD)
I'm a huge Oasis fan. I own just about all of the music they have released and I'm very proud to say that. This DVD is a perfect addition to what I own and this is a must own for all Oasis fans.
When Oasis busted out in 1994 they were a warm welcome to rock n roll. The depressing grung scene had gone on for way to long and this all gave these guys from Manchester the perfect chance to be the biggest band in the world. This DVD is different from all of the other Oasis DVD's. The others are basicly just a recorded concert with little specials except for ....There and Then. Definetly Maybe is much more than just a concert with a couple of interviews. You have the option to just listen to the songs. All of the songs from the album are here including the Sad Song which had previously only been available on singles, vinyl, and some of the U.K. versions. The music sounds great and is crystal clear. You also have the option of watching a performance of each song. Some songs are from different concerts while others are from promo shows at different studios. All are great performances and are fun to watch. Most are shot with a British audience and it's funny to relieve some moments from 1994 while watching them. There also an option to get a documentary on each song. All 12 songs are special in their own right and it's nice to hear the band talk about them and especially Noel who wrote them. This guy is a musical genius and is one of the top song writers in the world. All the original promos from the album are here. There are some alternate videos included as well. There are some directors commentaries that really equal out to some special stuff. The band and producers have really put together a special DVD here. I'm on the Oasis maling list and alomst a year ago I got an e-mail asking for old pictures or recordings of the band from the Definetly Maybe era. They said they were working on making a DVD and wanted to make it special. They really have done that. If your a serious Oasis fan this is a must own. This is the greatest band in the world at their earliest stages. This album is what Rock N Roll is about. If you like this band or this album you wont regret buying this.

This review is from: Oasis - Definitely Maybe: The DVD (DVD)
For the first time ever, the whole album, including rare vinyl-only track 'Sad Song', is available on DVD. The classic audio version is accompanied by an hour-long documentary about the recording of the album featuring rare and contemporary interviews with the band, label, friends and entourage, memorable live and TV performances of Definitely Maybe's twelve era-defining tracks and - totalling nearly five hours of classic Oasis music and footage. The roll call, starting with performance footage:'Rock 'n' Roll Star' Top Of The Pops, September 1994'Shakermaker' Naked City, June 1994'Live Forever' Glastonbury, June 1994'Up In The Sky' Chicago Metro, October 1994'Columbia' Hammersmith Palais, December 1994'Supersonic' The Word, March 1994'Bring It On Down' Gleneagles, February 1994'Cigarettes And Alcohol' Southampton Guildhall, November 1994'Digsy's Dinner' Buckley Tivoli, August 1994'Slide Away' New York Wetlands, July 1994'Married With Children' Los Angeles Whiskey A Go Go, September 1994'Sad Song' Later With Jools Holland, December 1994Definitely Maybe : The DVD includes the bands promo videos for 'Supersonic', 'Shakermaker', 'Live Forever', 'Rock 'n' Roll Star' and 'Cigarettes And Alcohol' (uncensored), some with director commentaries. Also included are the U.S. videos for 'Live Forever' and 'Supersonic'. Hidden extras include a segment from the seminal Wibbling Rivalry Fierce Panda interview release and various non- documentary strands (including a letter from Guigsy), as well as other hidden extras. A bonus disc (only available until the end of 2004) includes further interviews and live performance footage.

Ultimage Homage,

This DVD is everything and more than you can expect. It details
the making of the album in a very casual fun way with loads of detail. Buy this disc for the stories they tell throughout it alone. The audio is identical to that of the original release and some of the live footage is sketchy at best. But to own video footage of them playing at the Boardwalk (which by the way appears to be smaller than an average basement) is spectacular. Are you madferrit!

Great tribute to an excellent album,
This review is from: Oasis - Definitely Maybe: The DVD (DVD)
This DVD is a must have for every Oasis fan. It is an excellet tribute to their best album. It includes every song from Definitely Maybe on DVD Audio, including Sad Song which was previously unreleased in America. They also included a live performance and a documentary for each song. All of the promo videos from this album, both the UK and US versions can be found on this DVD. The extras include all sort of interesting things such as the infamous "Wibling Rivalry" interview.
The one complaint I have about the DVD is I would have preferred one great concert from that era instead of different shows for each song. It's nice seeing different shows, but there is some varying quality for each one. Plus, the Top Of The Pops performance is mimed which I feel is like a waste of time. However, don't let that stop you from buying this excellent DVD!

This is a must for all Oasis fans -- not just for the music but for the interviews and laughs. Liam, being Liam, saying that he didn't think much of the record anyway. Mani taliking about getting notes out an anaconda while flying on acid, and Noel describing a night at the Luxor in Vegas. Ace...buy it, you won't regret it....besides, your original copy of the record should be worn out by now.

Maybe, Defintley A Little Self Aggrandizing,
By Ben Dugan "Ben Dugan" (Flying Monkey Killer) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oasis - Definitely Maybe: The DVD (DVD)
As much as I love Oasis, or at least pre-new millenium Oasis, watching Oasis recent re-release of their debut "Definitely Maybe", I was struck by how self-aggrandizing it all really is.
The record itself, now including the Noel sung "Sad Song", origanelly availble on the vinyl version of the album and really shows Noel's affinity for Neil Young, sounds great in its 5:1 Stereo Surround. Each note is clearer, the vocals rawer, and the whole procedding sounds as new as it did on its release in 1994. The bonus features however leave a little bit too be desired. Although it took me a few seconds to grasp how to access the features(you have to press up, down, left or right buttons on your DVD controller to see the features or can access them from hitting the menu button, I found what was there to be interesting occassiaonlly, worthless occasionally and always self aggrandizing. The documentary that chronicles the album is interesting enough, breaking the record down track by track, with some interesting tidbits about some of the songs(I never knew that "Supersonic" was written, recorded and mixed in one night) and some things that are really kind of "my god we are (were?) a great band"(Noel's proclaimation that "Live Forever" is one of the greatest records of all time). The live footage is scattershot, although I really like the live clip of "Supersonic", and the music videos are interesting to watch once, but I doubt anyone will care to watch them more than that. As a matter of fact, that pretty much sums up this whole DVD release. Nothing here is really awful, but nothing here really requires you to watch it more than once. If you are an Oasis fan, then you will definitely enjoy this disc. If you are new to the Oasis camp however, I suggest you buy the origanel version of the album over this re-release of it.

Great album, but is it worth all the fuss?,
By Reviewer (NZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oasis - Definitely Maybe: The DVD (DVD)
This album is a great album.
But is it really worth re-releasing it on DVD? I mean the documentary is'nt that interesting. Just alot of people swearing and blabbering about how it was recorded and stuff. Well what else can you talk about? But its not that interesting. Lots of people talking and raving about how great it was, but I think thats just overating it. They should wait till Oasis call it quits and then release a DVD on the band, instead of wasting time putting out this boring piece of gibberish. The live performances are'nt that exciting and the only good music video is "Live Forever." Its actually much more interesting to watch the bonus DVD in which you get lots of funny and interesting stories about the band. "Defintiley Maybe" is a really great and awesome album but its also an overated one at that. As Liam Gallaghar said at the end "i did'nt think it was that good anyway, I though it was alright."

With any luck, SONY and the other labels will revisit classic albums and do them up like this DVD. You get EVERYTHING associated with "Definitely Maybe": the album itself sounding better than it ever has (uncompressed PCM Stereo), all the videos, live footage, a documentary, and tons of other goodies. It's the best way to get a complete history of a classic album, and what was happening with the band at that time in history. BUY IT NOW!
