5.0 out of 5 stars A Rock & Roll Super Production
I was not an Oasis fan, i like many songs that i listen to through the past years (and watched the videos on MTV). But i have not any CD of them.

At first, i wanted to buy the double CD set, but i prefered to bought the DVD.

This concert is really amazing, the stadium, the images, the sound, the stage, the Gallager brothers, the crowd, this is much more than i was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Three and a half, actually.
Make no mistake, I'm a huge Oasis fan. I saw them in concert twice and actually got to meet Liam and Noel (even if it was for two seconds). Thus, I know what they're capable of in their live show and this DVD doesn't capture the full experience at all. Some of the versions on here are downright mediocre (Champagne Supernova, for one) and the rantings between the brothers...

Now, i really say that Oasis is one of the better rock & roll bands in the history of England.

Now, i am an Oasis new fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any fan of great music...., April 2, 2001

Oasis in my mind is one of the top acts out there right now. Their passion for making great music is absolutely incredible, and it shows in their gigs. This dvd brings to you all you could ask for from this great band. Unlike 'There and Then'(although that was also awesome), there are many other features to the dvd than just the show. There is a very well done interview with Liam and Noel, along with 6 camera views on Cigarettes & Alcohol, which is a very cool feature. There is also stunning special effects on almost every song to bring a little kick to the show. And the best part; the gig itself is amazing. 'Familiar to Millions' is well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than expected...., April 10, 2001

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had high expectations for this DVD, and I was happy to have them exceeded. There are a few flaws- 1) the 5.0 sound is pretty good, but it is VERY (read: too) conservative in volume and bass, and 2) the set list is good but omits a few of Oasis' best songs.

With that said, the picture is as good as a NTSC gets, it's very nicely directed with high energy camera work and video bits mixed in at appropriate times, and the gig itself is quite good. If this DVD was only the concert it would merit 4 stars.

As a bonus, the extras are almost worthy of a 2nd DVD. In addition to playing with different camera angles, there is a fun documentary showing rabid fans before, during and after the concert and a short but sweet interview with each of the Gallagher brothers in seperate locations. There are many other good extras, but the best is the seperate video clips that were assembled for the screens behind the band during the gig. These 5 videos are set to the original studio music tracks and would make wonderful REAL music videos- better than almost everything on MTV these days. I won't ruin the surprise for you, but I suggest watching the videos before the concert- AT LEAST the one for "Live Forever".

If you like Oasis and have a DVD player, consider this a must purchase. If you want to experience a great Rock and Roll concert at home, it doesn't get much better than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great to have, even if you already own the CD, March 28, 2007

Now, maybe I'm a bit biased since Oasis is my favorite band ever, but I really am glad I bought this DVD. The image quality is quite good, and it's fun to have the bits of in-between-song banter that are cut from the CD. As far as the bonus features go, they're a bit minimal-- and to be honest, the crowd shots are a little silly at times -- but the interview portion is a good bonus, especially with Noel talking about his thoughts on the albums they'd released at that point. I don't think you have to be a super-fan to enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For All Oasis Fans, April 5, 2001

I watched this DVD as soon as I got it in the mail, and was not disappointed. On top of the excellent concert footage, which gives an accurate feel to actually being at an Oasis concert, the extras are a welcomed addition. The brothers Gallagher put on a supurb performance, along with new band members Gem Archer and Andy Bell on lead and bass, respectively. The new guys have taken the band to a new level musically, as can easily be seen on the DVD.

Thus, I know what they're capable of in their live show and this DVD doesn't capture the full experience at all. Some of the versions on here are downright mediocre (Champagne Supernova, for one) and the rantings between the brothers Gallagher are incomprehensible. Is it really English they speak? Anyway, some of the good things about the DVD are the fact that, well, it's Oasis and they're just plain cool to look at. Noel's version of "Hey Hey, My My" is phenomenal as is the resurrected version of "Rock'n'Roll Star". If you're an Oasis fan, you should obviously buy this, but I'm still partial to Noel's acoustic set on "Live By the Sea" and almost every minute of "There and Then". I just wish they'd play more songs off of "Be Here Now" (yes, I'm one of the noble few who actually liked that album). Oh well, they're still an awesome band and I owe them a lot for getting me through High School!

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you mad fer it?, February 4, 2001
I have totally enjoyed this DVD, since I bought it in England. It is fantastic! It feels you are right there w/ the crowd! The music sounds great, the picture is crystal clear, and the essence is pure British rock at the finest. The different camera angles on "Cigarettes and Alcohol" make you feel you are the director of the show. The wit onstage is hilarious w/ a slight scuffle of Noel vs. Liam. It is a classic, must-buy for any Oasis fan. Especially if you are mad fer it. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must own for even casual Oasis fans, November 4, 2003

I own all of the Oasis CD's, and I am a huge fan of theirs. But this DVD is simply amazing. The audio is perfect quality, with just the right amount of crowd noise mixed with the band to set a great atmosphere. I own DVD concerts by U2, Bruce Springsteen, and Travis, and this Oasis DVD blows them all away with its amazing editing and good bonus features. Step Out, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Rock and Roll Star are simply perfect on this DVD. I highly recommend this DVD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Next Best thing to the real one, September 30, 2003
Before the DVD i brought the Audio CD and since then i wanted to see these guys playing the music, so i brought the DVD and it was awesome. The concert atmoshphere could not have been captured any better. The Audio and Video quality is excellent. Some of the songs also have multi camera views which you can choose. I liked the extras that came with the DVD.

VERDICT: I would definetely buy it, a must for any rock lover

4.0 out of 5 stars Full-scale production, June 22, 2001
By
Jay Gemmel (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
A great deal of effort was put into the production of the "Familiar to Millions" DVD. There are the extras, including amateur-style short clips featuring crazed fans before, during, and after the show, interesting menu graphics and interludes, and of course the show itself. The concert footage is creatively shot and edited, with a dozen camera angles that melt together and weave a visual treat. Picture quality is OK, although some of the wide shots look pixelated and rough. The close-ups of Liam and the band offer the greatest pleasure, and the projection screens behind the group provide a colorful backdrop.

Although the concert mirrors the audio CD (with the exception of a few different versions of songs - Wonderwall being one), the sound quality is not as dynamic as the CD. Noel's voice seems to be potted down, especially on Acquiesce, and the distinct "pop" on the snare drum that is so prevelant on the CD, is absent.

What contributes to the concert experience is the intra-song bantor between the brothers Gallagher. Their constant hurling of insults and cursing to the audience just adds charm to the show. I would recommend this to all Oasis fans.
