Product Description

When the relative humidity drops below 40%, musical instruments are at risk of cracking. The Oasis Digital Hygrometer accurately measures relative humidity and can help you decide when to use your Oasis Guitar Humidifier. Because relative humidity varies greatly, even inside your home, we recommend that you keep your hygrometer close to your guitar, or any other stringed musical instrument made of wood. With the convenient case clip, it is now possible to measure the relative humidity inside your guitar case so you see when it's necessary to humidify the instrument. The clip attaches to the back of the OH-2 hygrometer and is mounted on the flap of the supply box inside your guitar case.

Not much to say about this item except that it measures temperature and humidity inside a guitar case or other small enclosure. The slim design fits easily in the confines of a hard case and you have a choice of velcro or clip on mounting. The clip mounts to the device with a pressure sensitive adhesive strip. Don't know how well that hangs on but the velcro mount worked fine for me. The min/max buttons are nice so you can see what your guitar was up to while you were away.

Unfortunately, after living with this unit for several months, it doesn't seem to be very accurate. I have four digital hygrometers in my home. Two that are part of larger wireless indoor/outdoor weather stations, a cheap one from Harbor Freight, and the Oasis. I set them all in the same location and waited a couple of hours to see what would happen. The two weather stations and the HF cheapie agreed to within a percent. The Oasis read 5% lower than the others. This is not a big deal except that you're aiming for a specific value in a guitar case and an accurate instrument would be helpful in doing that.

I sent this first unit back to Oasis and to their credit, they supplied a new one quickly at no charge. Sadly, this new unit reads even lower than the first, 8-10% lower than any of my others. The only reasonable conclusion I can make is that all Oasis hygrometers simply read low, and in a guitar case application this will cause you nothing but angst and uncertainty as you try and get the humidity in the case up to the recommended 45-48%.

There are small, inexpensive hygrometers out there that are settable and can be user calibrated, and I think this a better solution than the more expensive and inaccurate Oasis. I originally gave this item 4 stars but have now reduced that to one. If an instrument does only one job, but does it poorly, what good is it?

I probably would give it more stars, but you can buy the exact same Hygrometer by Elitech LT-2 for about $18 cheaper. You are paying for the name. Cheap shot boys...

Please read the Q&A if you are lextremely concerned with accuracy. As far as I see Oasis makes no claims regarding accuracy.

Currently I use 5 hygrometers. 3 of them are this Oaisis model. Like the Q&A discussion, I have run tests with the 3 together and the group of 5 together. There is some minor variation in the side by side reading on the Oasis, and there is some minor variation among the 5.

I use these hygrometers for guitars. They are used inside hard cases with up-to-date humidipaks installed. If I have a guitar out of the case for a day or more, the hygrometer is hung in the Oasis string holder right next to the sound hole. The room with the guitar rack is also monitored for room temperature and humidity.

The minor variations on these hygrometers become inconsequential in the context of overall monitoring. My guess is that those of you who have real concerns about monitoring have multiple methods and are generally cautious. Some spend more for greater accuracy AND precision. I am satisfied that the Oasis is a successful part of my guitar protection program.

If you are looking for a single solution for your guitar's health, this will likely give you a reasonable solution. It will assure you that you have access to the warning signs of a moisture and heat/cold environment that may be toxic to your instrument's health.

If you are concerned about humidity (or the lack thereof) affecting your guitars or cigars, you need to get something like this that is reliable, accurate and easy to use.

It keeps track of the highest and lowest values. Batteries seem to last a long time.

Slim design and light plastic might be fragile if improperly left inside an enclosure where it might get damaged.
Batteries might be a little tricky to change. The screws to remove the back are very teeny-tiny.

I am not overwhelmed by this product but I feel better knowing that I can at least establish a baseline and go from there.
I am guessing accuracy is within ten to fifteen percent...close enough.
This is meant to measure enclosed cases and not rooms or large open spaces.

Comes with a metal clip and adhesive tape for mounting and Velcro for case attachment and restraint.

Most experts say anything below 40% humidity could cause damage to fine quality instruments. This unit is affordable enough to own so you can sleep a little better at night knowing your nice Gibson acoustic guitar is not cracking and warping.

I am glad I bought it.

I own four hygrometers, two of them oasis. I put them all on the shelf for about a week and noted the humidity levels. The two Oasis hygrometers varied by 10-15 percent from my other two hygrometers. And the two Oasis hygrometers varied by 5-8 percent between themselves. I find the Oasis hygrometers to be unreliable for protecting my $4000 acoustic guitar. Whats the point of it if you can't get an accurate humidity reading? I also find them to be a total rip-off, no exageration. Its such a rip-off that I am offended by what they cost. You can buy the Lerway High Accuracy Digital Thermometer & Humidity Hygrometer on Amazon for a third the price, literally, and its the exact same hygrometer, just rebranded with buttons switched around. If you absolutely have to own one of these Oasis hygrometers, at least save yourself 66% and buy the Lerway version. Don't let Oasis make you look like a fool like they did me. I got taken not once, but twice. Man I feel like an idiot :-)
