4.0 out of 5 stars Oasis, on top of the world

3.0 out of 5 stars Good energy, but sound could be better
I expected the sound to really be first rate on this new release. Unfortunately, the mix was not that great for 5.1 sound. Check out Sessions disk for the best production and sound on DVD.

This release was taken from their two shows at Earl's Court and Maine Rd in England.Kicking off with the jam fest that is known as "The Swamp Song" and then smoothly gliding into the duet "Acquiesce", this is a good indication that the boys know how to rock. There isn't a sour note to be found here especially when Noel sits down on his stool for another rendition of "The Masterplan" or his otherworldly guitar solo in "Champagne Supernova".It was a bit odd to see Oasis perform "I Am the Walrus" with a Beatles look-a-like, tribute band. Tongues firmly planted in cheeks? The one thing that keeps this video from being consistent are the interview bits they throw in between songs. I have to fast forward through them. Sorry guys. This is a better concert video than the previously released "Live By the Sea" as it shows Oasis at the height of their popularity, on bigger stages, in front of larger crowds, giving their all. Outstanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mad fer it? Get this one first!, December 26, 2002
This review is from: Oasis: There and Then (DVD)
Although "Familiar to Millions" tops this one for interviews, slick bonus material, and production value, true Oasis fans should get "There and Then" first. Why? Because Liam's performance here is much better.

While the overall band performance on FTM is superb, Liam's voice is weak and disappointing. I hate to say that as I love this band, but it's true.

"There and Then", on the other hand, captures Liam at his best. You will keep watching this for the great live performances. The video shows Oasis at the peak of their worldwide popularity and it is magical.

I keep going back to FTM to watch the hilarious interviews with Liam and Noel and to get a sense of the atmosphere at Wembly Stadium, but get this one first for the music!

I should mention that I haven't yet seen "Live by the Sea".

5.0 out of 5 stars What ever happened to Rock and Roll, September 21, 2000
This review is from: Oasis: There and Then (DVD)
It seems as if when Oasis left the stage at Knebworth, guitar rock and britpop in general began to die. Shortly after, other than Urban Hymns, the quality of music on the air waves pretty much became intolerable. What started as the 2nd best generation of music with Nirvana belting out Smells like Teen Sprit died at the conclusion of I Am The Walrus. This video showcases one of the best bands at the height of Britpop. This video is truly amazing. If nothing else the video is worth the Swamp Song and Acquiesce when Liam and the rest of the crowd belt out I don't know what it is that makes me feel alive. All of the songs are good, even the acoustic of morning glory. I would have liked to have seen the entire Maine Road show, I have it on CD, instead of cutting to Earls Court. Oasis is truly one of the top bands of the 90's and my favorite. Stacked up against The Rolling Stones or Beatles they have fared well thier first 4 albums. Not to mention the B-Sides Acquiensce, Masterplan, Talk Tonight, Fade Away, and Round are Way. They hopefully will be able to improve on everything else. Also it would be nice if they released Live by the Sea on DVD and the Edinburgh show from 2000.

5.0 out of 5 stars IN THE GRAND BRITISH MUSIC HALL TRADITION, April 22, 2005
By

This review is from: Oasis: There and Then (DVD)
The British Music Hall possessed a very strong unifying / communal experience component .... a real jolly sing-a-long to help the masses to temporarily escape the shortcomings of their often very difficult lives. This outstanding concert by what is undoubtedly the greatest living pop/rock band in the world nobily takes the British Music Hall outside under a contemporary sky. Oasis tunes are for the masses ...... are played for the masses .... and are
thoroughly embrassed by the masses. The music on this disc is, simply, infectious .... you can not help becoming involved. It reaches deep in the the social friendly part of your soul and places you in the joyous company of your social and cultural peers in celebration of the moment and all that is good in life. Carry on lads.

Watching the tour Oasis launched in 1995-96 in support of "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" was a bit like seeing the rebirth of rock and roll. I did not get to see their English shows, but did catch them stateside, and what an amazing thing it was to see this band, five guys on a stage, with guitars, no ridiculous special effects (a la Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd) - just playing brilliant music with brilliant attitude. This film, capturing two English performances from the era, is a time capsule of what Oasis' early brilliance and what made us love them before they went a bit crazy. Never have they sounded better live than the Maine Road performance captured here. To be honest, I do not think I have ever heard better live rock and roll than the Maine Road show. Highly recommended, even to non-Oasis fans, for the exhibition of the rock show as power musical performance, rather than effects-laden side show. Absolutely brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great For Sound, Leaves Video To Be Desired., January 3, 2000
This review is from: Oasis: There and Then (DVD)
Previous to receiving this DVD this Christmas, I had allready owned the VHS version of the same title. I'd gotten hooked to watching REM Road Movie on DVD while I dinked around on the computer and I was looking forward to seeing the same great picture with Oasis. I was let down because the picture is very grainy and full of pixels. Though I love being able to hear the great live songs while I surf the net, it is upsetting that even though they had a chance to get that razor-sharp look they passed it up. I would opt to just stick with VHS for this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars The title tells the story..., July 8, 2003
This review is from: Oasis: There and Then (DVD)
Once upon a time, say somewhere between 1994 and 1997, I'm convinced that OASIS truly was the meanest, biggest and bleedin' greatest band alive. They held the world in their hands and threw it on a roller coaster ride, of which a piece is caught in this video. Noel Gallagher had the talent of 100 years of composers together, Liam had enough charisma for a millennium. Yes, it was there and then and today's Oasis perhaps only have the shell left ot these days - but it doesn't really matter, since the wonders this band made during these years (perfectly sumaried in this video) is enough for a thousand lifetimes. Even if they won't live forever, this will!

4.0 out of 5 stars Oasis T&T, February 25, 2003

Although FTM is the epitome of what an Oasis concert is all about, any Oasis fan MUST purchase There & Then. Not only does this DVD contain songs not on the other DVD's, but the quality of some of them are fantastic. Noel's version of What's the Story, and the versions of Cast No Shadow and Wonderwall alone on this DVD are worth the purchase.

Also add in the short interviews of the band members between songs and you have an EXCELLENT depiction of an Oasis concert at the height of their popularity.

I saw the band play in front of 3000 fans, and they had as much energy there as they do in these 50,000 fan arenas. This is a must-buy for your DVD collection.

There is nothing conceptually better than Rock n Roll. And this band proves it well with their music. OASIS is better than everyone else! Live forever!
