Book Description

February 15, 2011
In 2008, Barack Obama lobotomized a generation.

For an entire year, otherwise clear-thinking members of the most affluent, over-educated, information-drenched generation in American history fell prey to the most expensive, hi-tech, laser-focused marketing assault in presidential campaign history.

Twitter messages were machine-gunned to cell phones at mach speed.

Facebook and MySpace groups spread across the Internet like digital fire.

YouTube videos featuring celebrities ricocheted across the globe and into college students’ in-boxes with devastating regularity.

All the while, the mega-money-raising engine whirred like a slot machine stuck on jackpot.

The result: an unthinking mass of young voters marched forward to elect the most radical and untested president in U.S. history.

Recognized as one of the country’s top young conservative activists by Human Events, Jason Mattera created an internet sensation with ambush video interviews that exposed clueless young liberals and cunning Democratic officials. Now he reveals the jaw-dropping lengths Barack Obama and his allies in Hollywood, Washington, and Academia went to in order to transform a legion of iPod-listening, MTV-watching followers into a winning coalition that threatens to become a long-lasting political realignment.

Obama Zombies uncovers the true, behind-the-scenes story of the methods and tactics the Obama campaign unleashed on youth culture. Through personal interviews and meticulous original research, Mattera explains why conservatism’s future rests upon jolting the young masses from their slumber, yanking out their earphones, and sparking a countercultural conservative battle against the rise of the ignorant Left.

The lesson from 2008 is crystal clear: When true conservatives run away, Obama zombies come out to play.

More About the Author

Jason Mattera, 28, is a New York Times bestselling author, the youngest editor of a national periodical, Human Events, and the host of "The Jason Mattera Show" on News Talk Radio 77 WABC in New York.

Mattera's brand-new book, Hollywood Hypocrites: The Devastating Truth About Obama's Biggest Backers (Simon & Schuster) is already creating buzz. Mark Levin hailed Hollywood Hypocrites as "eye-popping, exhaustively, researched, and absolutely hilarious" and the late Andrew Breitbart called it a "barrage of body blows to Hollywood's holier-than-thou limousine liberals."

In 2010, Mattera's debut book, Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation (Simon & Schuster) landed at #14 on the New York Times bestseller list. Rush Limbaugh, who endorsed the book twice on air, dubbed Mattera an official "Rush baby" and nominated Mattera for a Pulitzer Prize. (No word yet from the Pulitzer committee on the status of Rush's nomination.)

Ann Coulter has crowned Mattera a "national treasure," Michelle Malkin says his work is a "heat-seeking missile aimed at the Cult of Obama," and POLITICO named him Washington D.C.'s "bad boy reporter."

He's also a weekly contributor on Fox Business.

Well-known for his trademark "ambush interviews," Mattera's video takedowns of top liberals have gone viral and become Internet legends.

Mattera's a Brooklyn native who currently resides in Washington, D.C.

When he's not busy punking liberals, Jason enjoys eating organic foods, recycling his trash, and devising ways to convert Angelina Jolie to conservatism.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many ways I went wrong... March 30, 2010
Format:Hardcover
I can't believe where we are at this present time in America. My whole family voted for Barack...I mean my whole family..we are all white working class people. We usually get together for major family events, of which was my mother's 85th birthday. It was not too long before politics was brought up and I have to say, on save my admitted socialist sister attending NYU journalism program, we are all kinda' shell shocked about what just went down in D.C. with the vote on health care. We all talk about how this system needs fixing, as a couple of us are in the health care industry. But, the way this was passed has left most, not all, but most of us very troubled.

And, after we calmed down a bit, when the food arrived...very hungry at this point, we had come to the conclusion that we voted for Barack Obama more because we were not happy about still being in Iraq and Afghanistan and all it was costing. 20/20 retrospect can be very powerfull and there are some very sober, very troubled souls in my family now, wondering if we had made a mistake voting for Barack, save my scialist leaning sister who has no issues with the way things are shaping up. She's very hopeful, even now. That's my sis.

However, I think the main worry we are having is that the administration is not listening to we that want a little bit more fiscal restraint and moderation on spending. And, when my retired family members heard that Obama is warming up to the idea of nationalizing our 401k retirement plans, that was a real shocker. I don't know if this is true; but, if it is, I don't think there would be many more votes from my family for his re-election in 2012. I hope that's not true. We are worried.

Now the book review:

So far, two of us have read the book and are astounded at how true what he is saying did happen. A couple of us are technogeeks and we followed and recieved many of the messages on our ipods and facebook to vote for Barack and that he would be the game changer in Washington and that he would change D.C. and make EVERYTHING transparent and EVERYTHING would be on C-SPAN. I think that's one thing that my family and I were so dissappointed about the none of this happened and that it was all kept under wraps and we could not watch all of the promised debate. Instead, we got something that even Congress did not read......never, ever, ever thought that could happen in America.

This book has really opened my eyes and made me really slow down, take a chill pill and slowly, patiently and OBJECTIVELY watch what politicians say and do so that one can make a more reasoned decision.

Thanks Jason for writing this book for my generation. With this new perspective, we have no excuse for repeating this mistake...

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Documented and Well Written March 29, 2010
By Michael
Format:Hardcover
In Obama Zombies, Jason Mattera gives an informative, fact-filled, and often hilarious account of the highly sophisticated, highly integrated, new media marketing effort conducted by the Obama campaign during the 2008 election season and beyond to galvanize 18 - 29 year old voters, turning them into "Obama Zombies" - young Americans attracted to Obama by his "hip" style and his empty-headed "Hope - Change - Yes, We Can" rhetoric.

It is truly impressive (and a bit scary) to learn how effectively Team Obama utilized every facet of new media - the internet, cable T.V., and cell phone technology - to attract and organize young voters via Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and text messaging. By working with the founders and owners of several of these new internet giants (such as Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes) the Obama campaign was able to leave the McCain campaign in the dust of its young voter outreach.

Mattera makes no effort to hide his disdain of the many college-age Americans who lack a basic knowledge of American history and government and whose political discourse is banal, vulgar, and ignorant. He advertizes and argues for his conservative outlook throughout the book. So, no one should complain that the author is posing as an objective, non-partisan observer, nor even that he is just another conservative political hack. "Obama Zombies" is educational not only for anyone involved in politics, but also for business people interested in learning how to effectively utilize new media for marketing products and services. Obama Zombies should even be taught in political science courses as a historical narrative on how the Obama organization has brought about a new paradigm in political campaigns . The book is fact-filled, well-documented, and footnoted; it is very well-written and formatted. Obama Zombies is must-reading for anyone who wants to learn how effective political campaigns will be run from now on.
