Book Description

August 13, 2012
America as we know it—wealthy, powerful, assertive—is not what Obama wants. He wants a smaller America, a poorer America, an America unable to exert its will, an America happy to be one power among many, an America in decline so that other nations might rise—all in the name of global fairness. To Obama, the hated “one percent” isn’t just wealthy Americas; it is America itself. In Obama’s view, America needs to be taken down a notch.

That is the startling conclusion of bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza in Obama’s America. Building on his previous New York Times bestseller The Roots of Obama’s Rage—which Newt Gingrich called “Stunning…the most profound insight I have read in the last six years”—D’Souza shows how Obama’s goal to downsize America is in plain sight but ignored by everyone.

D’Souza lays out what Obama plans to do in a second administration—a makeover of America so drastic that the “shining city on a hill” will become a shantytown in a rather dangerous global village. Arresting in its presentation and sobering in its conclusions, Obama’s America is essential reading for those who want to change America’s course before it’s too late.

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

CAN AMERICA SURVIVE FOUR MORE YEARS OF BARACK OBAMA?

No, because America as we know it—wealthy, powerful, assertive—is not what Obama wants. He wants a smaller America, a poorer America, and America unable to exert its will, and America happy to be one that other nations might rise—all in the name of global fairness. To Obama, the hated "one percent" isn't just wealthy Americans; it is America itself. In Obama's view, America needs to be taken down a notch.

That is the startling conclusion of bestselling author Dinesh D'Souza. Building on his previous bestseller on Barack Obama, The Roots of Obama's Rage—which Newt Gingrich called, "Stunning…the most profound insight I have read in the last six years"—D'Souza shows how Obama's goal to downsize America is in plain sight but ignored by everyone.

D'Souza lays out what Obama plans to do in a second administration—a makeover of America so drastic that the "shining city on a hill" will become a shantytown in a rather dangerous global village.

In Obama's America you'll learn:

  • How Obama plans to use debt as a weapon of economic mass destruction to downsize the United States
  • How a second Obama term could be fatal to Isreal—and to American interests in the Middle East
  • A superpower disarmed: why drastic defense cuts are only the beginning
  • How Obama plans to make us more dependent on foreign energy suppliers
  • What the world will be like when America is a debt-ridden, second-tier economy and other countries, like China, India, and even Brazil, are wealthier and dominant

Arresting in its presentation and sobering in its conclusions, Obama's America is essential reading for those who want to change America's course before it's too late.

From the Back Cover

FROM OBAMA'S AMERICA

Obama is not merely the presiding instrument of American decline, he is the architect of American decline. He wants America to be downsized. He wants Americans to consume less, and he would like to see our standard of living decline relative to that of other nations. He seeks a diminished footprint for America in the world. He detests America's traditional allies, like Britain and Israel, and seeks to weaken them; he is not very worried about radical Muslims acquiring a nuclear bomb or coming to power in countries like Tunisia and Egypt. He is quite willing to saddle future dollars toward this end and if he had been permitted, he would have spent trillions more. He has shown no inclination, and has no desire, to protect America's position as number one in the world; he would be content to see America as number 18, or number 67, just another country seated at the great dining table of nations. The strength of my thesis is that it is completely congruent with who Obama is and what he does. We don't have to assume that he is always getting results opposite to what he intends; we simply have to see that he intends the results he is getting. He emphasized in his inauguration speech his goal of "remaking America"—and he is doing it, recognizing that in order to remake America he must first unmake America. The only question is whether Americans approve of their country being diminished and downsized, and whether they want to give Obama another four years to finish the job.

More About the Author

Dinesh D'Souza has had a 25-year career as a writer, scholar, and public intellectual. A former policy analyst in the Reagan White House, D'Souza also served as John M. Olin Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and the Robert and Karen Rishwain Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He served as the president of The King's College in New York City from 2010 to 2012.

Called one of the "top young public-policy makers in the country" by Investor's Business Daily, D'Souza quickly became known as a major influencer on public policy through his writings. His first book, Illiberal Education (1991), publicized the phenomenon of political correctness in America's colleges and universities and became a New York Times bestseller for 15 weeks. It has been listed as one of the most influential books of the 1990s.

In 1995, D'Souza published The End of Racism, which became one of the most controversial books of the time and another national bestseller. His 1997 book, Ronald Reagan: How an Ordinary Man Became an Extraordinary Leader, was the first book to make the case for Reagan's intellectual and political importance. D'Souza's The Virtue of Prosperity (2000) explored the social and moral implications of wealth.

In 2002, D'Souza published his New York Times bestseller What's So Great About America, which was critically acclaimed for its thoughtful patriotism. His 2003 book, Letters to a Young Conservative, has become a handbook for a new generation of young conservatives inspired by D'Souza's style and ideas. The Enemy at Home, published in 2006, stirred up a furious debate both on the left and the right. It became a national bestseller and was published in paperback in 2008, with a new afterword by the author responding to his critics.

Just as in his early years D'Souza was one of the nation's most articulate spokesmen for a reasoned and thoughtful conservatism, in recent years he has been an equally brilliant and forceful defender of Christianity. What's So Great About Christianity not only intelligently explained the core doctrines of the Christian faith, it also explained how the freedom and prosperity associated with Western Civilization rest upon the foundation of biblical Christianity. Life After Death: The Evidence shows why the atheist critique of immortality is irrational and draws the striking conclusion that it is reasonable to believe in life after death.

In 2010, D'Souza wrote The Roots of Obama's Rage (Regnery), which was described as the most influential political book of the year and proved to be yet another best seller.

In 2012, D'Souza published two books, Godforsaken and Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream, the latter climbing to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and inspiring a documentary on the same topic. The film, called "2016: Obama's America," has risen to the second-highest all-time political documentary, passing Michael Moore's Sicko and Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. In addition, 2016 has risen to #4 on the bestselling list of all documentaries.

These endeavors--not to mention a razor-sharp wit and entertaining style--have allowed D'Souza to participate in highly-publicized debates about Christianity with some of the most famous atheists and skeptics of our time.

Born in Mumbai, India, D'Souza came to the U.S. as an exchange student and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1983.

D'Souza has been named one of America's most influential conservative thinkers by the New York Times Magazine. The World Affairs Council lists him as one of the nation's 500 leading authorities on international issues, and Newsweek cited him as one of the country's most prominent Asian-Americans.

D'Souza's articles have appeared in virtually every major magazine and newspaper, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, Vanity Fair, New Republic, and National Review. He has appeared on numerous television programs, including the The Today Show, Nightline, The News Hour on PBS, The O'Reilly Factor, Moneyline, Hannity, Bill Maher, NPR's All Things Considered, CNBC's Kudlow Report, Lou Dobbs Tonight, and Real Time with Bill Maher.

5.0 out of 5 stars "A POWERFUL PRESENTATION WITH SHOCKING CONCLUSIONS!" August 13, 2012
Format:Hardcover
Bestselling author Dinesh D'Souza delivers profound insight on a drastic makeover of America in the plans for Obama's second term in office, and how this makeover will affect every American. Is it Obama's goal to downsize America, and use debt as a weapon of economic destruction? Why are there drastic defense cuts, and what would it be like if other countries are wealthier and dominant? Is Obama the presiding instrument of American decline? Most important, can America survive another four years with Obama? The information presented is thought-provoking throughout about the condition this country is in right Now with the debt crisis, poverty, unemployment, and other major concerns. This is powerfully moving and an essential book to read prior to Voting. The concluding facts are Shocking as to what America will become in the future, and 'WE THE PEOPLE' need to know how the economy can repair itself with good solutions, and the right person to do the job. I myself at age 62, have never witnessed a recession so long and so much in DEBT, like the one we live in right Now. Millions of foreclosures, millions who lost jobs, the increasing amount of homeless, and millions without health insurance! The most important questions to ask ourselves is, what about the aging, and will our children suffer in the future? If you were born and raised in America, worked your entire life, then lost the American Dream, don't we deserve at least what we were promised? The scary questions are, where are we heading, will it get better, or become our worst Nightmare? This book is informative, concise, and Highly Recommended for all American citizens!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different than the other books on Obama August 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
It has been almost 2 years since I read Dinesh D'Souza's book "The Roots of Obama's Rage". "Roots" made a very compelling case that Obama is an anti-colonialist. I do not think that you need to read "Roots" before reading this book. If you are nervous about an Obama 2nd term then this book might scare you.

As usual the 1 star reviews obviously did not read the book. D'Souza's completely debunks the "birther" claim and the idea that Obama is a closet Muslim. He does not claim that Obama is Jihadi or hates America. One of the 1 star reviewers seems to merely to have an Amazon account to trash any book critical of President Obama.

Any strong supporter of Israel that is an undecided voter should definitely read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a WAKE UP CALL for all Americans August 16, 2012

Please read this book...republican / democrat its irrelevant!!!!
If you are wondering WHY America is where it's at right now, look no further than this book!
We as a former Global Superpower have been weakened by 4 years of Obama.

I voted for him, I loved his campaign of change, but this is NOT the change the US needed.

To be honest, after recently overviewing the global landscape and the inescapeable upcoming battle between Iran & Israel, I'm afraid the US will never be the same again.

Read this book to understand WHY.

"We need to know the man's core beliefs to figure out that agenda. "
D'Souza, Dinesh Obama's America

Dinesh D'Souza shows himself to be a good writer and he does believe in what he
is writing. He tends to stick to unemotional phrasing and logical arguments. The
book has a good amount of sources and notes and it seems well researched.

His writings include the contention that that Obama has anti-colonial ideology,
that Obama's background is still a mystery to many people, That he had radical
mentors as he was growing up, etc. in other words many of the same things that
other authors have written of.
So the real question becomes does this book have anything that makes it rise
above the other books of this type? Ordinary Americans cannot buy every book
that is published and with each new book people have to make economic decisions
of which books to buy if they can afford any at all.
My answer is that this book is not a `must' read for everyone but it is still
a book the undecided voter should read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner August 13, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I have read many of the author's previous books and have found them to be meticulously researched, thought-provoking, and legitimate arguments to the prevailing "wisdom." Liberals, as usual, will be extremely upset with this book, but rather than dismiss it out of hand, should delve into its pages if only to be able to attempt to intelligently rebut the assertions.

Meanwhile, people from all side of the political spectrum should take heed: there will be competent, patriotic liberal presidents in the future. Barack Obama is simply not one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy smokes! Dinesh NAILS it! August 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is absolutely incredible. I don't have words, but I'll try. The fact is, every member of the electorate should read this. We never got to know Obama last time around, and while exhaustive biographies have been presented on Bush, Clinton, and everyone else, Obama has somehow escaped having his past examined by most mainstream sources. Dinesh fixes that problem quick, fast, and in a hurry. He delves deeply into Obama's childhood, his father, and the wide variety of incredibly radical figures that young Obama idolized.

You will never understand Obama better than you do after reading this. Between Dinesh's masterpiece and the awesome quick read 2012 Election: The 106 BEST Reasons NOT to Vote for Obama, I think I have more than enough arrows in my quiver to take down any of my friends or relatives who dare utter a word about voting for Obama again.
