A "Must Read" for Understanding America's Middle East Policy,
By
This review is from: Obama's Betrayal of Israel (Encounter Broadsides) (Paperback)
Michael A. Ledeen has written a thought provoking, cogent essay that underscores a fundamental problem in US Middle East policy: President Obama's inability or unwillingness to fully comprehend the aggressive nature of Iran and its proxy regimes. Using the Vietnam War as an historical example of how lack of understanding and historical context can lead to an intermediate "two-state" solution that inevitably results in the elimination of a sovereign state, he also shows how Iran's unrelenting pursuit of nuclear weapons not only threatens the existence of Israel but is also a serious threat to the security of the United States. Ledeen is worried that the Obama Administration's fixation on negotiating with Iran, a policy until now lacking tangible results, is providing Iran additional time to achieve its nuclear goals. Quoting from the Cairo speech Barack Obama delivered to the Muslim world in July of 2009, Ledeen argues that Obama lacks sufficient understanding of Muslim history, the Koran, and Arab-Palestinian aspirations needed to recognize their decades old goal of suppressing the Jewish state or eliminating Israel from the Middle East altogether. Given the fact that President Obama's Middle East policy will exasperate the Middle East crisis rather than mitigate regional tensions, this book is an important read. The book is convincing and well organized, but does have a serious flaw in not providing external references to support the author's claims, something he should rectify in an updated and perhaps expanded edition. If not for this defect I would rate it more than the four out of five stars I have given it in this review.

Dr. Ledeen exposes the policies set by Obama in order to underline the state of Israel and (unknowingly) strengthening the hand of US/Israel adversaries such as Iran or Syria. A very informed writer, Dr. Ledeen argues for democratic change in the region to tip the balance in favor of Israel and ultimately winning the broader struggle against forces of Jihad. An important essay on current state of affairs....

I found Obama's Betrayal of Israel to be an extremely engaging and interesting read. It provided me with information that before i would have never been able to get a hold of. Although it is somewhat biased, i feel that it gives some pretty accurate facts and a lot of opinions on Obama's policies towards the middle east. Overall it is a good read for anyone who is interested in the conflicts between Israel, palestine, and Iran; and the relationship in general between the United States and the Middle East.

Ledeen is one of those Neo Con "warriors" who got us into the present two wars in the middle east and is presently trying to get us to attack Iran.
Americans should support our president for not giving into the war mongering Christian and jewish idiots who only exist for the expansion of Zionism.

It's just an essay. It's more of an editorial instead of a book. It was a waste of $5.99 on my part.

A misstatement of facts.,
This review is from: Obama's Betrayal of Israel (Encounter Broadsides) (Paperback)
From Reagan through H.W.Bush, and Clinton through today, Presidents have always taken issue with Israel's policies with regards to the Occupied Territories which international law continues to regard as illegally occupied by Israel. The most defiant position ever taken with regards to Israel was taken by George H.W. Bush when he threatened to end military and civilian aid to Israel if it continued its policies of illegally building settlements by destroying Arab homes. He was condemned, labeled an anti-semite, and made to reverse his position by both Republicans and Democrats. Obama is certainly not the most "anti-Israel" president we've had. This book doesn't mention that fact, as it doesn't mention many facts. This book is directed to the misinformed, and uses half-truths to persuade people Obama is an enemy to Israel. It is essentially a lie.

This essay by Michael Ledeen seems to have been written with little research. While there is a large portion of history that is valid, its relevance is questionable and does little to prove his points. If you are looking for an essay written purely on opinion with little logical connection, than Obama's Betrayal of Israel was written for you. For the rest of the population who prefers to read essays based on fact, then I suggest you search for something else to read.
