Folks, I was a skeptic but I read all of your reviews and bought it on trust. Not disappointed at all! Professionally packaged in a retail box and even had a product description tag hanging on the monopod. Great attention to detail: very sturdy, solid and tight-locking twist locks, reversible threaded stud for using bare with a camera or with a head (I'll be using mine with a Manfrotto 496rc2). I leaned and pushed down on this thing and it didn't give at all (compared to others I've been trying in the local camera stores). 3 set screws are already drilled and ready to go on the underside of the mounting base to secure a photo or video head.

I'm not a pro, thus I didn't consider anything north of $200. Instead, I was considering Manfrotto 680B (loved the sturdy feel), 694cx (loved the light weight), and even checked out Slik Pro Pod 382cf, and some [Pro]Master 526 and 528 models. This Oben is the best monopod I found, and meets every feature desired - including short collapsible length, sturdy leg sections, built-in foot spike, extremely lightweight, above average load rating, and flexible threaded attachment options.

This monopod is an okay value, but don't expect anything close to Gitzo quality. The rubber on the locks spins, and they takes almost a full turn to unlock. The sections do not extend terribly smoothly. The one I received was not straight, each section was at a bit of an angle to the one above it.
Pluses: Locking screws on mount, weight is average for size
Minuses: Build quality, cheap locks, was not straight

Returned it for a refund, was not much lighter than my Giottos MM 9170 aluminum monopod, build quality and stability were much lower.

Very sturdy, could use as a walking stick with camera attached.
