Jill Savege Scharff, M.D. and David E. Scharff, M.D. are co-directors of the International Institute of Object Relations Therapy. Jill Savege Scharff, M.D. is also clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University. David E. Scharff, M.D. is clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

The Scharffs provide a good review of the contributors to and the evolution of object relations therapy and an excellent view into the world of object relations therapy as done in individual therapy. Their interpretations of the subtleties observed in the transference/countertransference process is most enlightening.
