Product Description

Oboz Footwear is owned and operated by a small group of passionate industry veterans and life-long outdoor enthusiasts.  They define themselves by where they live and recreate. Their name comes from "outside Bozeman." Their home base, Bozeman, Montana sits on the northern edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem--18 million acres of some of the wildest land in North America. It is here, in the Northern Rocky Mountains, from the Wind River and Teton Ranges to the Bridgers and Spanish Peaks, with incredibly varied geologic features, and abundant wildlife such as grizzly bears, wolves, bison, that Oboz is found. They've adopted the phrase "True to the Trail" as their guiding principle. As a new company, they're faced with direction-changing decisions every day. Filtering all of their decisions through the "True to the Trail" test helps them stay consistent with the vision that led them to create Oboz Footwear.

The Oboz Wind River II BDry Women gets its name from the Wyoming's Wind River Range. The Range holds forty peaks over 13,000 feet, 1300 lakes, and the headwaters of five rivers...oh, it's on your bucket list too? For those long, remote approaches, you'll need support and durability at a reasonable weight. The Wind River II boot bundles together the weight savings of EVA, the durability of PU, a waterproof/breathable BDry lining to keep feet dry, and Oboz BFit Lacing System to lock your heel in place. Take the Oboz Wind River II BDry Women on your next dream hike!

First off, yes the boot does run about a full size small. So long as you know that, you simply size up.
I own the last version of this boot. I like the II better. It has the same incredible sole, but with more padding between it and your foot. Maybe Oboz added a cork layer or something. The toe box is also more generously cut in this boot. I have narrow feet, but appreciate the extra space in these versus the first version.

This boot requires some break in. The ankles are firm and rather stiff. I do a lot of off trail hiking and talus scrambling. These boots are perfect for that. For a hiker/backpacker who sticks exclusively to trails, the boot may be overkill. Insofar as I can tell, the waterproofing is good. And the instep strap really holds my heel in place.

Ok, I have given these boots a fair shot and I really, truly wanted to like them, but sadly, I don't.

The pros: they are absolutely comfortable for my foot. True to size for me. I wear a 7 and that's what I bought. They fit great. The workmanship is wonderful, they look rugged and like they will hold up well.

The cons: The footbed is very thick, which you would think would be a plus, however it felt like I was hiking in platform boots I was raised up so high. The sole comes straight down from the boot, without a slight flare at the bottom, so that, combined with the height of the footbed, leaves my feet very unstable on uneven terrain. My feet kept wanting to roll in or out whenever the footing got rough. I tried tighten the laces more around the ankles, which then left me with very sore ankles or tightening just the foot more. No go. I kept trying them out and kept coming in from my hikes saying, 'I hate these boots!" Sadly, they will be stuck on the boot shelf, gathering dust or used as a last resort.

This is a great boot but it runs about a full size too small. My toes were scrunched at the end.
