Product Description

Platform: Sony PSP

Obscure II is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Obscure. Two years ago, at Leafmore High, a group of young teenagers were trapped inside their school and hunted by monsters that had been released by the maniac headmaster. Some of them survived that terrible night, while others perished. Now, the survivors have picked up their lives and joined college. But all is not right on Fallcreek University; strange black flowers have suddenly sprung up everywhere on the campus. While experimenting with these flowers in class, a dangerous substance is discovered that induces strange but vivid dreams. But a handful of students find out that there is more to the flowers than anyone could have expected; when the seeds finally germinate, a bad trip suddenly turns into a horrible reality...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for Your Horror Fix, November 29, 2009

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Obscure: The Aftermath (Video Game)
I never played the other Obscure game. In fact, I've never even heard of it. I bought this game just because I was out of things for my PSP and I figured that it might be ok.

So far Obscure is just a Silent Hill clone. If you played Silent Hill Origins and are still in the mood for more of the same Obscure might satisfy you, though it is not as good as Silent Hill, I will warn you.

The game doesn't creep me out or startle me as much as Silent Hill did, but they do a good job of creating weird scenery and bizarre interactions.

The major downside of the game is the dialogue is insanely wooden and unrealistic. Very poor voice-acting, indeed, but that is the only glaring fault that I have been bugged by.

I am giving it three stars because it's not a very unique idea and because of the poor voiceovers, but it's not a bad game. I think it would be a great game to just waste some time with when you have nothing else going on, but I doubt you'll become addicted to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great puzzle/horror game, April 6, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Obscure: The Aftermath (Video Game)
I've been playing this game for a few days now and am loving every minute of it. There are eight characters to control. The story mostly will follow two characters at one time you control one and you can switch between them. Each character has certain skills (strength, hacking, agility, etc) so when you need to move boxes you will need to use the character that has strength. The game will limit your access to areas that are not part of your assignment so getting lost or missing items that you need are limited which is good as getting thru areas can be challanging but you should manage to work it out before it gets too fustrating. The controls work well and the save areas are perfectly placed, the monsters are well placed and offer a good challange. There is a good range of weapons with baseball bats and golf clubs to beat the monsters, guns and shotguns to shoot them and also a stun gun that will need charged with well placed electrical panels through-out the game. For Resident evil and silent hill fans this is similar to both but is not a clone of either. I am enjoying this game and would recomend it you just need to give it a chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kind of interesting, November 23, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Obscure: The Aftermath (Video Game)
The game just barely earns its' four stars because with another person it is pretty fun. I admit, that seemingly like everyone else, I never heard of the first game either.

It is steeped in western horror cliches. The really skimpily dressed women, the drugs, the douchebags, and I highly doubt you will grow to care for any of the characters. Me and my brother could actually see one characters thong.

Me: I see your thong...

Him: I don't like that :(

One player mode, I didn't bother to far in. It's probably 3 stars. I typically dislike when a game forces co-operative mode for any decent gameplay, but it works well enough in this case.

The game works as follows.

One person starts the game, and may continue from it on their own at any point, or have another player drop in at any point. Pretty useful in a way since if something happens to the other player, or you wanna play on your own, you can.

You are always in a duo, single or multi player. In 1 player you may switch between the duo, in two player the first is forced into the male, the second into the female. This is annoying because it's two different skill sets. The female is generally "hacking", or other minigame oriented tasks, while the male is generally the muscle.

You will often times have to split up to do things.

Some of the puzzles were repetitive and easy, but some puzzles were actually pretty clever.

I don't recommend playing with someone you aren't directly next to, as communication turned out to be a big thing when I was playing.

The game might scare you if you scare easily as well, it even almost got us a couple times. Perhaps if we had been playing in the dark?

It's not a bad game, but only if you have someone who is going to share the same room with you and play! Not worth more than 20 dollars though... (To me anyways). If you can frequently buy expensive games, then pay whatever you like for it.
