Editorial Reviews

" Obsecration features an incredibly eclectic and diverse assortment of music, all up a magnificent album of guitar explorations and textures, a thematic collection of riffs, runs, rhythms and timing shifts taking the listener through a wide range of moods and styles. One thing is certain: his " beautiful, at times heavy yet always unique psych-rock guitar work is the main feature throughout. The album was released in May 1976, on the Rainbird label. When Richard Branson heard Obsecration he wanted to release it on Virgin. Branson sent the company a few notes, saying he wanted the master tapes. What Lobby (who had moved to the UK) didn't know at the time , was that Rainbird had gone into liquidation. Despite that set-back, Loyde was able to take Southern Electric into Surrey Sound Studios with producer Nigel Gray in order to record tracks for a proposed EP release (previously unreleased, they have been added as bonus tracks to this reissue). The Aztec Music reissue of Obsecration is packaged in a 6 panel digi-pak, with liner notes by Ian McFarlane and Glenn Terry, digitally remastered, has 6 bonus tracks and many rare photo --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A prayer by guitar prophet, July 13, 2010

This review is from: Obsecration (Audio CD)
An absolutely extraordinary album by great Australian guitarist Lobby Loyde (1941-2007), recorded with semi-permanent act of strong individuals known as "Southern Electric" and originally released in 1976. This re-issue offers a true value for money as it includes: original album "Obsecration" (with original liner notes by Lobby Loyde himself; two bonus tracks (solo single 1975); plus previously unreleased EP "Too Poor To Die", plus leaflet with superb article by Ian McFarlane.
Rather poorly introduced as "Aussie psych-rock from 1976" - yes, there are some elements of psychedelia, but this versatile and polyphonic masterpiece doesn't fit into this definition - interwoven constantly developing melodies, virtuoso guitar, piano, sax, powerful and confident singing by Mandu* - it's a fusion of progressive and symphonic rock, white man blues...
I would say,it stands as equal between "Blackfeather" (At the Mountains of Madness and Joint Effort. A great pleasure to listen to and must have.
* Mandu - To the Shores of His Heaven is highly recommended to the real fans of prog/psyche
