4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull CD - Guitar music at its best.
This is a good addition to the Narada's New Flamenco series a long with Gypsy Passion and Gypsy Soul. Track 8 & 11 (Abundance and Tigris Palace) are my favorites, I just can't get enough of those 2 songs, that music is always in my head, the rest of the songs are ok too. I wish that this collection could include Alex Fox, how could Narada miss him on a collection...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Guitar music but hardly to be called 'flamenco'.
I bought this record because of cuts 1 thru 4, 6, and 8 thru 10. Eight out of twelve, not bad! This CD invites to search more for the styles of Oscar Lopez, what a sample! Jesse Cook and Armik. I already own albums by C.Spheeris and Govi. Spheeris sample is not flamenco at all but pure mediterranean sentiment and feeling. Govi's sample is close to a jazzy caribean...

I wish that this collection could include Alex Fox, how could Narada miss him on a collection like this? The sound quality is exceptional thanks to the 24-bit mastering, this is even beter than the 20-bit recording in Gypsy Passion and Gypsy Soul and I thought that Gypsy Passion's sound was excellent already. If you like this "Obsession", I'm sure you will like Gypsy Passion too. Just sit back, relax and let the music take you away to an exotic destination !

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, March 16, 2000
By A Customer

The key to setting your expectations level on this CD rests in the sub-title key-word "ROMANCE". I purchased it expecting something along the, lines of Gypsy Soul, or Gypsy Passion (both HIGHLY recommended, but if had to buy just one, Gypsy Passion is the better one, IMHO). During my first listening I was truck by the fascinatingly melodious first & second tracks ("Cancion Trieste" by Jesee Cook & "Loving You" by Oscar Lopez). This is a wonderful CD, with the rare distinction of all but one, or perhaps two, tracks being top billing songs, rather than "filler" tracks. I do question the "flamenco" billing, although it most certainly is flamenco inspired. Perhaps "nuevo flamenco" would be a better choice characterization. Whatever you wish to call it though, it delivers masterful guitar work, and otherwise great music. What stops me from giving this CD 5 stars are a couple of songs which are a bit too jazzy for MY taste. Noteworthy is the exquisite sound delivered compliments of the 24-bit recording. Worth the bucks.

I purchased this CD at the recommendation of a friend...I have to admit I have nothing else like it, but I like to find something new and different. This is fun, and great music to cook dinner and entertain friends. It is spicy...energetic, yet has a hint of romance. Very enjoyable...it was worth the money and I know we shall listen to it often in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just What I've Been Searching For!!!, April 2, 1999
By A Customer

I was looking for a romantic latin guitar CD, and this is IT. It will be the perfect accompaniment to my husband's and my Mexican honeymoon. My only "complaint," if you can call it that, and that which kept this cd from earning a "5," is the inclusion of a couple of faster pieces to the mix. The faster pieces are terrific in and of themselves, but I really wanted a CD that was, in its entirety, very slow and sensual. Ah, well. All "romance" isn't slow, if you know what I mean. Ahem! <<grin>>

I already own albums by C.Spheeris and Govi. Spheeris sample is not flamenco at all but pure mediterranean sentiment and feeling. Govi's sample is close to a jazzy caribean merengue, light an happy. Flamenco, hardly. Armik's cut reminds us of the Latin American trios epoch in the 40's and 50's. Nice finger play. The ones with 'flamenco' names come as weak imitations of the Gypsy Kings style. What, no Strunz and Farrah sample?!! Oh, well. The variety of samples is what makes this record stand out, but it hardly qualifies as flamenco playing. Perhaps the sub-title should have been "New Guitar Romance". Try the CD for a soft candlelight dinner or a pleasant conversation over wine and cheese. 3 and half stars.

This is one CD I seem not to tire from, has a way of calming. Over glasses of Margarites, close your eyes and it takes to exotic lands. Beats from the Middle East, South America, Spain and Italy all in one.

This CD really stirs the soul. If you have every listened to flamenco you will truly enjoy this. Of note would be the first song featuring Jesse Cook on guitar and Ofra Horanoy on cello. Awesome piece.

An excellent collection of hauntingly sensual flamenco you can listen to over and over again without tiring of the songs. Worth buying one for home, one for the car and one to hoard. What I wouldn't give for a live concert by any of these musicians.
