My Favorite Christian Metal CD!!!,
By
This review is from: Obsessions (Audio CD)
Although I am a Stryper fan, I think this was the greatest Christian Metal CD ever!! Take Iron Maiden & mix it with Queensryche & you have Sacred Warrior. Even if you are not a Christian you will love this cd. They were truely the best musicians in Christian Metal. This cd is getting harder & harder to find so get it before it gone. Stand out songs are: Mad Man, Obsessions, Temples On Fire, Fire From Heaven & Wings Of A Dream.

Great Hard Rock with a Great Message,
By Pappa Bear (Kansas City) - See all my reviews

There was a period of a few years in the late 80's and early 90's when Christian Hard Rock and Heavy Metal finally got the production quality the message deserved. As a result bands that were talented, but sounded like garage bands because of "less than top notch" production finally got to explode on tape they way they always did live. Sacred Warrior was one of those bands. This isn't just a fantastic Christian Hard Rock album. It's just a plain old fantastic hard rock album. Of course, this came out right after Kurt Cobain arrived on the scene to effectively kill everything that came before him so this never got the chance it deserved. This belongs in every Christian headbanger's collection.

4.5 stars - a fantastic Christian power metal album,

Forever in the shadow of bands like Stryper and Barren Cross, Sacred Warrior was one of the lesser-known (and most impressive) bands in the early Christian heavy metal scene. Sacred Warrior was without a doubt a metal band, and were clearly inspired by Iron Maiden as well as early progressive/power metal bands like Fates Warning and Queensryche.1991's Obsessions was the band's fourth album, and for all that the trend was moving away from their kind of power metal, Sacred Warrior stuck to their guns and released another impressive metal album. Between the melodies, twin guitar attack and more complicated arrangements, plus of course Rey Parra's high-octave vocals, there is a very strong Queensryche sound on Obsessions. The songs have incredible power and energy, and they rock really hard. Sacred Warrior is a Christian band, and their lyrics reflect that faith. It's obvious, but not over the top, so those who may not share the band's faith can still enjoy the music. If you're a serious fan of Christian metal, Obsessions - indeed all of Sacred Warrior's albums - are mandatory purchases. Fans of classic `80s heavy metal and early power metal will also want to check out this excellent band and album.

Been doing a little strolling down memory lane lately and actually stumbled across this at a used store. Knowing it was selling for over $20 I snatched this up for the $9.99 price. Also picked up Wicked Generation at the same price. This was a great metal album for Christian rock done in the late 80's early 90's. Power riffs galore and a twin guitar attack this still sounds good. If these guys came back I think they would have a shot in the power metal world with modern production values added. In the Barren Cross/Maiden style with the singer being a higher tenor then those two bands, a very worthy addition to you collection.I am looking for someone age 32 to 42 to email about classic and new christian music. What it meant and means to you. bnkjohnson@netzero.net

Not just another flash in the pan band,

Obsessions culminated the album releases from one of the finest acts ever to hit the stage. Of the 4 studio albums that SW released, Obsessions is my third favorite.. the music is tight and precise. As I read one of the previous reviews, someone mentioned that SW sounds like Iron Maiden..Sacred Warrior sounds nothing like Iron Maiden save for one song on their first album (Rebellion)called Famine (the song). Rey Parra is one of the finest vocalists ever to stand at the microphone and Bruce Swift can shred with anyone. The band also did a live recording in 2001 at Cornerstone. The main thing to see here is not that SW was a hard rocking outfit, but that Jesus was and is the FORCE behind the band. I recommend all who love hard rocking music.. get this band if you can. |
