Obsidian Butterfly by Alice Gomez,
By "aktiger" (Anchorage, AK United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Obsidian Butterfly (Audio CD)
Titled after an aztec female deity of earth and fertility this CD blends modern hispanic rythms and Native American folk tunes.Alice Gomez and the other members of this trio have produced an album of beautiful instrumental music. Although the cover touts the celebration of ancient instruments, the combination of clay pipes and synthesizers is a bit odd--as if the past and present collided. Overall, this CD is relaxing and enjoyable but certainly not traditional Native American music.

This CD is my favorite amongst Alice Gomez's recordings. Beautiful melodies, beautiful athmosphere, beautiful flute playing... very relaxing, very recommended... you cannot be disappointed with this one.. :-)

Strikes just the right balance,

This review is from: Obsidian Butterfly (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after hearing 'Celestial Dancer' played on my New Age satellite channel, and am very glad I did. The music strikes just the right balance IMHO. Perhaps it's not a 100% pure example of the genre but as a non-expert in it, I found it a real pleasure to listen to nonetheless, especially since my tastes veer toward the more upbeat and complex New Age compositions in general (a big fan of David Arkenstone!).
Just a quick FYI, even though track #15 is not listed anywhere on the CD's inserts, it IS on the actual CD and is a delightful tune that became an instant favorite! I guess whoever proofread the CD packaging goofed on that one. Thanks to this Amazon listing I now know the name of it. :-)
